I read that system restore hurts the performance of your SSD (as well as takes up valuable space), however I still would like the feature as I am constantly tweaking and don't want to lose everything.I have a 64 gig boot drive ssd and a 1 tb HDD. Can I disable my system restore on the SSD and create a system restore on my HDD where space is a non issue?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI set up Backup and Restore in the Wrong place, I believe. I set it up on my G Drive which is called HP Tools. The drive capacity is 3.95G. I began getting messages that there was no more room on the G Drive. It had only saved to the drive once.
So I went out and purchased a 8G flash drive and set it up to use that drive. Now I am getting similar notices saying there is no more space on that drive. It has only saved one restore point.
How much space do I need? In the past, with other computers, I have saved it on my C drive I believe.
I want to save a restore point by taking its backup becoz system deletes old restore points nd new ones are created . I wanna take its backup so that old restore point can also be used. So can anyone tell me where does system save its restore point.

In my user folder, I think I right-clicked the Favorites folder and changed the location to C: in an attempt to get rid of it. Now it seems my C:Windows folder has renamed itself to Favorites.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have my Xbox 360 connected up to my Laptop via Ethernet and I am having a problem with streaming videos and music. Everything else works fine, it connects to Xbox Live etc, and connects to the Laptop and finds the video files, it just won't play them. It gives the error:
'The connection to your computer was lost. Make sure your computer is turned on, connected to the network, and running media sharing software.
Status Code: 53-C00DF238'
I can't find much information about this error apart from one person stating that the ethernet connection to their Xbox had made itself public rather than private and could fix it by changing it to private again.
This is where I'm having a problem. The connection is showing up as an unidentified network with no internet access and as a public network. I can't figure out how to change it to a private network, there just doesn't seem to be an option.
Everything else on the laptop is working fine, my firewall is configured correctly, media player 12 is sharing correctly, the homegroup is set up etc. It just won't stream the video and the only thing I can think of now is that it needs to be a private network in order to allow streaming. I just can't change it.
I have attached a screenshot of my network & sharing centre to show you how it won't let me change the network location type.
My computer was set up in Florida but I work out of California so IE always defaults it's searches to Florida so how can I change this

I would prefer her to install the games to "c:\program files\games" rather than "c:\program files" as that folder ends up getting so cluttered that I can't tell what's in there. Is there a way to change the default installation location from "c:\program files" to "c:\program files\games"? She's too lazy to change the location manually when she installs software, so it would be nice just to change the default location, but I'm not sure how to do that on Windows 7
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to establish a home network between my 2 computers both running win 7 7100 (main is x64, secondary is x86). they are connected directly with an Ethernet cable. my main computer shares its Internet connection with the secondary computer (thus mains ip address for that connection is static, secondary is dynamic, assigned by dhcp).
my main computer does not recognize the network connection between the 2 computers - it shows up as an unidentified network and i cannot change its name or location (it's stuck at public).
is there any way to get my main computer to recognize the network without adding any hardware?
We are a small office, 5 or 6 computers. Only 3 are every day computers, other 3 are "server", admin and extra computer. The three in use every day are new win7pro x64 machines. Our server is xp pro (32bit) with a shared drive as our "server" drive. We access this for all our job related materials, etc. There is no network setup, just shared folders among our workgroup. we just got the new win7pro machines setup and are using Windows Backup function to create system images to the "server" computer in a shared folder. We've got the images created on 2 computers, and can see the .vhd files and associated folder structure. When testing to see if we could restore from these images, we got the error "Cannot locate backup sets on machine, etc."I moved the backup folder to the root of the drive, and made sure it was WindowsImageBackup or whatever the default is, but still could not find it.

I, without thinking, allowed the setup to name that drive C. Further, without noticing I allowed the Programs folder and the Users folder to go into this volume. I intended for everything but the OS to go into a large second file named E. View 7 Replies View RelatedThis little thing has been annoying me since Win 7 came out and finally figured I'd ask if there is some hack to change it.On my task bar I have the following icons...Internet explorer | Windows Explorer | Windows Media Player | Google Chrome | Paintshop Pro x2When none of these programs are in the open state everything is fine, however when I open up Internet Explorer, it changes the normal small icon into the full blown Internet Explorer taskbar icon right in it's place, which means my task bar will often look like a bunch of long I.E. taskbar open icons, then the small icons for Windows explorer, mediaplayer, chrome and psp, followed by a bunch of other program icons that are open programs.This looks sloppy and non intuitive to me.What I would like to do is to keep all the small icons (like they were in quickbar) on the left, and any open programs to open as new full size icons on the right of all the small icons. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Touchmate PC with two sets of audio ports (3.55mm jacks or 1/8" ) the front ones are not working (because they are disconnected) so i wish to use the rear ones, however, windows is set up so that the audio output (into my headphones) send information through all ports but the front mic, which is fine because i use the rear output port. My problem is that the microphone settings will only allow the microphone to be read through the front microphone port. Is there any way i can change these settings so that the microphone reads through the rear microphone port.

I'm trying to change the default location of My Docs, Downloads, etc from the SSD to the HDD (maybe change the location of the whole User folder?) so that my SSD stays clean with just the necessities.My problem is that I can't access the right-click menu that allows you to change the default location.Note: When I first installed Windows 7, all of my SATA ports were in IDE mode. I was able to access the "change folder location" menu for My Docs, etc, at this time. I changed the SATA port with my SSD to AHCI mode, which really boosted the boot speed, but I couldn't access the menu anymore after that.

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.
