Disc Drive Won't Allow To Change Ownership Or Permission
May 28, 2012Ever since I've had my computer there has been an extra drive on it. it was called microsoft (Protected). It has absolutely nothing on it, and it has no use. I have been trying to delete it to no avail, so I renamed it to annoying drive.
Whenever I try to access it it gives me an access denied message. It has no owner, or even permissions, and when I try to change it to me, or the admin, it gives me the same message. I went to the list of things on the computer, and I can't even find it. I then attempted using lock hunter to find out what was blocking me from changing the file. Also to no avail. It says that there is nothing protecting it.

Nov 30, 2011My laptop only has one user account, mine, and its an admin. I tried messing aroudn with Homegroup but i turned it off and now i cannot do anything with my documents, i get the error "You require permissions from MYLAPTOP/TomHart etcetc..." but that user (as far as i know) is me.1) How can i find out if thats my account or if for some reason mines changed/my documents owner has changed2) Anyone know how i could fix this?I tried using CMD running as admin and used TAKEOWN on the file but i still get the same error

Jul 28, 2011A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

May 22, 2011i am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

Aug 10, 2011When I try to join a homegroup from the virtual PC it does not show me the Homegroup of the laptop, instead it prompts me to create a new homegroup. I create a new homegroup with the name HOME (same as the laptop homegoup name). After that the two computers, the laptop and the virtual PC in the laptop do not communicate with each other in the network. Therefore I conclude that somehow there are two different homegroups with the same name, one in the laptop and the other one in the virtual PC.

Nov 21, 2009Just a little hard to find bit of info on increasing the graphics size memory for the virtual SVGA graphics adapter on a Virtual Machine running under vmware products.
The default is only 16 MB (VRAM) which probably isn't enough to get Aero going on a Windows 7 Virtual machine. You need WKS 7 / vmware workstation 3.0 for 3D support in any case.
Solution
Edit the .vmx file with notepad (Open with notepad) and insert this line
svga.vramSize = "sizeInBytes"
I think 64MB is needed for AERO -- mine works with 64MB - but you could try 32.
Vm runs with FULL AERO -- no prob at all.

Give it say 64 MB. Don't forget its size in BYTES you have to set -- if you do it wrong then the VM won't power on so backup the .vmx file before messing around with it.

Everything was going fine. Nov 7, 2009I am trying to install Windows 7 on a VMware 7 virtual machine, and it is asking for a driver. Windows 7 installs on just about any hardware you can throw at it. I have tried it on an ancient workstation with SCSI drives, and it installs without a problem. The same with serial ATA machines. Under Windows XP you would have to first supply it with a driver.
But now when I try to install Windows 7 on a VMware 7 virtual machine, it won't install. After the preliminary steps of asking for language and localization, it asks for a driver. Any idea why it does that, and what kind of driver it wants, and where I can get hold of one?
