Any ideas on how to tweak the color of the menu background of Windows 7 applications?
To be specific - as I'm not sure of the correct name - I'm talking about the pale blue color which appears behind "File Edit View History " on Firefox (and other programs), below the title header. It is used as the unselected tab background too.
I don't like it!
I want this color to appear uniformly Grey, as in XP, and without the light slim horizontal embellishment cutting through the words.
I have changed the default of programs and i want to change them to the basic program provided by window7

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am jumping into the 64bit OS this weekend. I have already installed it (Windows 7 RTM x64) and started to install a few programs. I noticed that there are two folders: Program Files and Program Files (x86). When I install software, does the OS know which folder to use?
Second question: I usually install the OS on C: and programs into a folder I create on the D: drive. Can I still do this with Windows 7 x64 and do I need to create 2 folders on the D: drive?
Okay, so I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 from DigitalRiver from the 741 offer for students. It gives me the three files as usual, but when I click on the .exe, I get a command prompt saying "Program is too big to fit into memory" before quickly closing.
I didn't even get this expandedSetup file that people are talking about, so I can't make a .ISO out of it or anything. I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, attempting to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Preimium Upgrade 32-bit.
I've tried re-downloading it.
I've tried using a different computer.
I've tried increasing virtual memory.
I've tried running as administrator.
Nothing seems to work, and I'm beginning to think I'm the only one so far with this problem. I even asked my computer science professor, and he thought the lack of virtual memory was the culprit. I have 3GB of RAM, and was able to free up 2GB to no avail.
I have purchased and downloaded both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows7 Professional (no CDs or media here only download version)
I sucessfully upgraded from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32
Then I upgraded my hard disk (140Gb 500GB) and RAM (3GB to to 4GB)
Now I would like to go from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit
When I try and run the Windows 7-P-retail-en-us.x64.exe file it upacks the box then stops with this error:"We are unable to create or save files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write flies and that that folder is not read only".
I am the System Admin and I have full rights, and have moved the exe and the setup box files to My Documentsand I have modified the directory properties/attributes but I still get the same error over and over.
I searched the posts and some people stated one needs a clean install others say you can upgrade from any version so I am trying the upgrade here especially since the upgrade from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32 was smooth and did require all the extra work of a reinstall.
Is it possible to upgrade in place from Windows 7 32bit to Windows 7 64bit.
Is it better to do a clean new 64bit install?
I purchased the Win 7 Pro Upgrade 32bit via digitalriver, but I've been doing some reseach and probably should have selected the 64bit version.
- Any ideas how I can get the 64bit version?
- For those who ordered the 32bit back-up disc kit for the extra $15 and have received it, does it come with both 32bit & 64bit?
- I've already installed and activated the 32bit version, but when I go to install the 64bit version, will I need to / is there a way to deactivate my initial 32bit install or will this not matter?
I'm currently running 32-bit Windows 7 (Professional, full version) on my laptop, and want to use this machine to create a bootable USB drive with 64-bit Windows 7 (also Professional, full version). I tried going through the steps that are available on various tutorials online, but I'm always tripped up while attempting to use bootsect to make the drive bootable; basically I get an error saying that I need to be using a 64-bit OS.
I don't have convenient access to a computer with 64-bit Windows Vista/7 (I work at an academic institution where all pubic computers have XP or Linux), so I'm wondering if there's any way to get around this and create a bootable USB for 64-bit Windows 7 via a 32-bit OS.

I also have quite a bit of other software. In previous reports I remember reading that VB6 will work with Windows 7 if "AERO" is NOT turned on. By the way, I never went to Vista and I DO NOT know the purpose or use of "AERO".Now that Windows 7 has "Windows XP Mode", is that statement still true? I do some development and maintenance of PC applications in VB6 and do not want to give it up.I would like to go with Windows 7. I have heard nothing but good reports. If VB6 or other related products are going to give me a problem, I just can't do it.

I've been searching for a fix on Google and everything I do doesn't really work. I've followed this tutorial - How to enable Windows 7 Aero theme? and different ones in these forums and still nothing works.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on it from microsofts site as well as various places throughout the web. most articles were also a few years old might have been before windows 7 was even released.from what I understand you will only really have an issue if you are using windows 98, 2000 , xp and server 2003.What I am trying to do is make a partition but the only way to do it so it seems (I am using the admin disk management tool)is to convert to dynamic.I am creating the partition to install a small linux distro to use in dual boot but the part that is making me weary is the last step of the disk management tool says "the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disc(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s)(except the current boot volume.now I will (hopefully) never have to deal with those headaches called OS's again. So would I have any negative impact from this conversion? would i still be able to boot windows 7 with all of my data still intact?

I've installed Acronis Disk Director Suite and in manual mode I've started to create a new partition. My notebook had 3 partitions: main partition of ~300Gb with Windows installed, unknown "System" partition with "boot" flag of ~1.5Gb and recovery partition of ~8Gb. So I tried to create a new partition using the free space from the first one. After rebooting Acronis started to work, created a new partition and started to replace "HDDRECOVERY" partition. During this process, notebook had been shutdown (it was plugged into the socket) and after turning on, I noticed the next: after turning on and booting BIOS, the laptop is going to reboot again and again and again.
