BSODs And Loss Of Internet Connection Upon Restart?
Jul 2, 2012
My computer is relatively recent only being bought back around Feb/March. For the past month the machine has been crashing and when I log back in I need to restart my router in order to get my internet connection back. The strange thing is that other computers connected to the same router also lose their connection shortly after the BSOD on my machine (both machines have wired connections). I am using the same OEM copy of Win 7 Professional 64 bit that was installed when I bought the machine.I have tried updating the drivers on the network card but that does not seem to help. I also tried looked at the dumps with WinDbg to see if I could find a specific driver that was playing up. I also turned on the driver verification a couple of times to see if I could find a driver that was suspect -- that caused almost immediate crashes but I could not get to the bottom of what was causing it but it could make it happen by starting up Mumble. The BSODs have so far seemed to happen when I am playing a game, using something like Mumble, or watching a stream.

On these occasions, while watching Hulu on my HTPC, which only connects via WiFi on my Router (Cisco E3000), the movies were interrupted by a loss of connection, indicated by the white tray icon turning orange, and when expanding it's menu, the connection bearing the name of my network had disappeared. On the first failure, the flashing light on the network adapter (Belkin F5D8055) continued flashing as usual, but the steady light was out, until pressing the connection button. The second time around, both light remained lit as normal, but in both instances my network connection on the network adapter's tray icon had disappeared. Using the WiFi's network adapter's connection button, and the router's PBC button didn't solve the problem, nor anything else that I tried.Since the WiFI connection is primarily for internet access, rather than connecting computers, and that shutting off my desktop doesn't usually effect the HTPC's internet connection, it seems obvious that the connection is managed by just the router, adapter and HTPC, so I fail to understand the relationship between the vanishing network and the loss of internet connection. When these failures occurred, they only lasted for ~ 10-15 minutes, and then were restored on their own, with no more apparent reason than the outage had. So far, this is only an annoyance, but I fear that it is an omen of greater problems on the horizon, and I have no idea of how to isolate the origin of the problem..

I had my Windows 7 running for 3 days with no issue, perfectly i must add, but up from Tuesday I'am struggling with really critical network issue.
I'am really turning on this forums as last resort, and I'am closer and closer to roll back to WinXP (which i really don't want...). But let me begin describing the problem from the beginning.
Some hardware specifications:
Windows 7 x64 7600 Polish Version
Motherboard: Asus P5QL Pro (with Intel chipset)
Network adapter: Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E (On Motherboard)
Connection: Wire, Ethernet, straight to Modem
Modem: WebStar EPX2203
Antivirus: None
Firewall: only default Windows firewall
- On Tuesday (24.11) morning (+1 gmt) I've installed drivers to my Network adapter which were in Windows Update.
- While playing Team Fortress 2, i started having really akward lag. I was able to hear and see everything around but i couldn't react. Then after couple of minutes my net got disconnected, loosing connection to the internet for a brief moment (up to 1 minute)
- I've blamed my internet supplier but the lag continued throughout whole day. Even during phone session on Skype it managed to last 5-30 min, finally ending with short net disconnection. Steam games weren't the only one affected, as while playing Borderlands i have also suffered from a lag, same type of lag like in TF2 (heard, and saw but couldn't do anything in-game)
- Until today, I've reinstalled (that is uninstalled adapter then installed, also in Safe Mode) drivers for my Network Adapter many times. Forcing Windows to not install his own, but only that which i chose, picking from all 3 drivers (from newest to oldest) which are supposed to be supported by Windows 7.
- I have also dabbled with Task Offload and unchecking IvP6, turning off Windows Firewall, but none of these brought any solution.
- Now I'am after fresh reinstallation of Windows 7, thinking that will resolve everything. But after i've installed every needed driver (for Graphic Card, Intel Chipset, HD Realtek Audio, updating DirectX, without updating Windows at all) and launched Team Fortress 2 to test out if lag is still present i've sadly encountered same as pre-reinstall of windows7.
Any ideas?

I have a Acer aspire 5536 laptop with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card which i connect to my Pansonic TX-L37G20B LCD Tv via the HDMI output on a regular basis to watch films etc. I have had no problems with the connection since the day i bought the TV and have been happlily using it for the last 2 years.
A couple of days ago i connected the laptop to TV as usual and changed to the correct HDMI channel and got nothing. I disconnecetd the lead and reconnected but still no picture or sound on the TV. I tested the HDMI cable and Tv input by connecting the lead to my XBOX and it worked perfectly.
When i connect the lead to the laptop the screen goes blank for a second and i hear the connection sound as normal however no picture on the TV.
I have checked the display settings and the TV is listed under monitors. I have tried all settings eg extend display, duplicate etc.. and it appears to work correctly but i cannot get a picture or sound on the TV. I did think maybe this problem was due to a recent windows update so i have run a system restore to a previous time when this worked, but no joy. I have also unistalled the old graphics card drivers and installed the new ones from the AMD web site and again nothing.

I have a problem where my Internet connection will drop at least once a day. I have Windows 7 Business x64. It will first simply stop working, as in it looks like it's connected, it still has a public IP but I can't ping out and no browsers work, nor any games etc (you get the picture). If I try release/renew it'll either hang or give me a 169-address. To fix it I have to reboot my computer and it starts working again.
I have an Asus P5KC motherboard using the Windows 7 Windows Update drivers, and it's been like this pretty much since the start. I've turned off all power saving modes everywhere I could find and any sort of hibernation settings, and still it'll cut off almost always once a day. (I have a VNC server so I can log on from work, so I can tell when it 'crashes'.)
What's funny is that it often doesn't happen when I'm on the computer, it's mainly when I've been gone for a bit. That's not to say it hasn't happened when I've been at it, it's just more uncommon.
It's setup to a switch which in turn is connected to my modem. What's telling me that it isn't neither the modem nor the switch that has the problem is the fact that I have a mediastation which doubles as a webserver also connected to the router and it has never once cut out. I've tried switching the ports on the switch (ha-ha) to no avail.
I've been thinking about installing the Vista x64 drivers from Asus but I'm leery of trying because I don't know how similar the two systems are.
Is this a general issue with this board? I'm getting really sick of this problem. Hope somebody can help.
Also, I'm sorry for not posting this in the megathread we apparently have but I couldn't bear slogging through 43 pages of white noise and hope that my post wasn't lost at the tail end of it. There are so many issues being handled in there that I can't make heads or tails of who has the same problem.

For the past year or so I've been using a telstra broadband manager USB to connect to the internet, now all of a sudden I am getting no internet access, not just from the broadband manager but from other networks aswell. I have tried my phones hotspot, other USB's and WiFi's to none of them working. It would start up and work for about 15 seconds, and then internet access would just cut out completely. I have AVG Internet Security 2012 installed and I have tried disabling the firewall (Windows firewall also) and yet it still doesn't work.

Verizon Fios, Actiontec Router. Windows XP machines (wired) (2) never any internet loss whatsoever. Running the wireless from the Actiontec and also a Linksys that is on one of the ports. (distance issues) The Linksys always syncs up and both wireless systems work 100% all the time with either XP or Win 7 laptops.
Here's the issue: two wired desktops running Win 7 have intermittent internet drops. One is older, one brand new fresh out of the box. Turned off the power saver NIC card function on both, WOL disabled. That's not the problem because the internet losses occur sometimes after the machine is on for a few minutes, the PC does not sit long enough to go into power saver anyway. There's no rhyme or reason as they say when the loss will occur. Sometimes this will not happen for a day or more, other times it can happen after using the machine for just a few minutes. One thing I have been trying is to disable IPV6 then I can get the internet back, othertimes re-enable it to get the net back. Go figure. Again, disabling it will not fix the problem, however switching it on/off will. Disabling and re-enabling the NIC will only fix it sometimes, most instances that does nothing. There are different types of NIC cards in the machines, one uses a Realtec on board, the other uses Nvidea on board and a plug in NIC (brand?) all NIC cards/board performs the same. Also, when they DO work, if I let them boot for a while, usually they will be fine, but that's looking at a 10-15 minute boot up. (doesn't take an excessive time for actual boot-up but I mean just leave it alone for 10-15 min) The Actiontec has the most current update version, and is about two years old. Somehow these machines lose the internet portion but not the network portion. Such an annoying problem, even more so when I added a brand new machine and get the same issues. I would be willing to bet that if I ran them wireless there would be no issue, but that's going to slow down the dl/ul speeds that I get with a wired connection.

Two days ago I lost internet connectivity suddenly on my desktop (Dell XPS 630i, onboard Nvidia network controller, running windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) and have been unable to restore it. As my laptop (winXP sp3) can still connect to the internet and the router settings have not been changed (Dlink DGL4500), I'm making the assuption that my networking problem resides on my desktop alone. the network adapter gives me a 'limited connectivity' symbol and refuses to connect to my network, even though the router acknowledges the desktop's wired connection. The troubleshooting diagnostic sometimes finds nothing, sometimes finds that the computer is not obtaining a proper IP, and sometimes claims the problem is the router. I've also disabled windows firewall. Throughout this whole process I have been getting a 'Drive Power State Failure' BSOD during restarts (about once every four or five restarts, not consistently).
At first I was unable to replace the drivers or uninstall the adapter through device manager. After reinstalling the drivers using the Nforce 650SLI drivers on their website, I was able to do this, but this did not solve the problem. I also did a windows restore to before the problem occured, also with no luck. I've been through the event log and there are numerous code 5007 errors, which just tell me that the adapter timed out during an operation. I've also read through some forums online and tried several solutions including adding a DhcpConnBcastFlagToggle line into the registry: SOLVED: Network Icon Exclamation: No Internet

This morning (Wednesday) my desktop computer brought in automaticly Tuesdays (26/04/11) set of patches, 6 in total for my machine. I turned the computer of for as I headed of to work and they installed on the shutdown. On returning from work the updates continued the install procedure on loading, but stuck at 0% for over 20mins. I decided to check the install time for this stage on my laptop 7pro x86 and it wizzed through in a few moments (laptop is a good 6yrs old). I figured the desktop was stuck and hit reset, every time it would get stuck at 0% on configuring the updates. Booted into safemode and ran system restore to the morning. Computer now loads up ok but will not connect to the internet. It would appear that its not getting an IP from the router.
What i've tried so far:After running system restore I've removed the Anti virus (Eset Smart Security). Tried setting manual ip address and ping router and laptop, also tried ping from laptop to desktop, both ways destination unreachable. reinstalled network drivers, same fault occurs. Reset winsock (netsh winsock reset catalog), rebooted after. reset TCP/IP (netsh int ip reset c:esetlog.txt), reported ok, rebooted same fault. ran sfc /scannow, reports system file integrity ok.Unchecked IPv6, same issue occurs. Checked network cables on laptop, ok.

I have a desktop with wireless access thourgh a USB wireless card (SMCWUSB-G)
I don't know what else to do. I have tried everything. I have searched around in forums, asked people. I need an internet expert.
I have a 20Mb internet plan but after swtiching from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit i dont get more than 2Mb, normally only 1Mb. Plus now my signal is weaker, i'm only getting 2 bars out of five when i used to get 3 or 4.
My download speeds don't get passed 30kb/s and i lose connection all the time now. I can say its not the distance from the router. Here is what i have tried to solve it:
- DOS command: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled"
- TCPOptizmier: gotten only worse and i think it was when my signal started to get weaker.
- Disaled IPv6 in internet options
- Disabled QoS

I am having a nightmare with my windows 7 64 bit home edition. It is running extremely slowly. I have lost the internet connection and the windows firewall has turned off and cannot be turned back on. Whenever I boot up i get the message "failed to connect to a windows server" The event viewer log is also unavailable. I have established that my internet is working on other machines. I have also attempted to reset winsock in safe mood. However this has not worked.I've had the system for about 9 months with no major problems. I have McAfee and have run windows defender and adaware so I am pretty sure it's not malware.

Until recently I ran windows xp. I shared a built in wall Ethernet jack with another desktop. I used my router (Linksys Befsr41) as a switch by disabling dhcp and connecting the wall ethernet and the two computers to the Lan ports on the router. The other desktop until recently was also running windows xp, but was upgraded and is now an apple imac running os x lion. My internet briefly stopped working but I was able to reset my router and get my internet running again. I then needed to reformat my build and installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I cant quite pinpoint my problem. If I connect straight to the wall ethernet jack i have internet access. However if i use my router as a switch to get internet for both my pc and the apple imac, I will not have internet access. Sometimes the internet does indeed come back on in this circumstance, only to get disconnected again shortly. I am not sure who to blame because the router worked fine when spliiting ethernet for xp machines, and I have internet access when running straight from the wall to my pc

I had a power loss while running on battery (it still showed power left, but suddenly shut down anyway) and when I restart, it reports that the Windows is not activated and Window is not genuine and system might be a victim of "counterfeiting."
Is this a virus (I have MSE on continuously and about once a week scan with Malwarebytes)? I have run 'sfc /scannow' with filtered output ('findstr /c: "[SR]" c:.....logsCBSCBS.log" and it appears as usual.
How can I lose my Windows activation?

Random BSODs while playing WoW/TF2, browsing internet and my PC will start normally after like it never happened. This has happened more than four times now. Has even happened once on the desktop. It dumps files and I haven't been able to snag error codes. Either that or I need to write down codes frantically next time it happens. I run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials frequently (though I haven't changed any settings and am not sure how to do more thorough scans.)

I am using a nokia E66 to connect to the internet at home. My pc at home is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I am currently using nokia pc suite 7.1.40.1. All the software installed without any problems. The problem that I am having is that after I connect to the internet, I can only roughly download / upload about 5MB of data and the connection will time out. I do not get any error messages that is did timeout. The only way I know this is that I stop seeing data being transferred in Network properties.
I then open my e-mail client to see If I can connect with a POP account and then I get an error saying it could not connect to the e-mail account. I then have to disconnect and reconnect and try again. This does not seem to affect web browsing though, only when I am downloading files. Like Steam will start update and stop, windows updates will start download and stop and so on.
I initially thought it was a problem with the network operator, but when I boot back in xp (my pc is set up to dual boot between xp and 7) every thing works fine. No download time outs. Is it the nokia software that is not supporting 7 100% yet or am I missing something else?

Generally once or twice a day, my computer will suddenly drop its internet connection. It will then start an endless loop of trying to connect: Sensing the network is there Trying to connect (With the loading symbol and "Initializing")Appearing to connect successfully (but when I try an open a web page, nothing loads, and I receive an error message telling me there's no connection)A few seconds later, the yellow triangular warning sign appears next to the wireless bar.A few seconds after that, it drops the connection, and then starts over at step oneA few seconds later, it will start again at step one.The only way I am able to get the network back on is to: Disconnect manually (press "disconnect")Turn of my wireless antenna on my computer Turn on and off my router Turn back on the antenna Reconnect.I have to do these 5 steps every time it disconnects. This is only happening on this one computer - other computers on the network aren't experiencing the problem (running XP and Win 7).I have an Asus U56E-BAL7.

I am working on a new Windows 7 build and have not been able to get an internet connection on my (MSHOME) LAN.I have a Belkin 4 port router and a DSL modem. Two XP Home computers on my LAN connect OK. The new Windows 7 has problems. After assigning a static IP address of 186.192.2.8 to the Windows 7 computer I can share with the XP computers and sign in on the router. (I have not been able to get Windows 7 to share in the DHCP pool. This inability to obtain a DHCP address also happened on a previous Windows 7 build that I aborted due to mobo issues. Their too I had to assign a static IP address.)AVG Internet Suite firewall network 186.192.2.1 - 2.8 assigned as safe.I get a network picture of the Windows 7 computer connected to an unknown network (public) and a red X between the network and the internet.I tried to rename the unknown network "MSHOME" but have been unable to do so. I did not attempt to make a Windows 7 workgroup as I understand it would not work with this OS mixture.

What is almost depressing is those that want faster speeds have more speed on one connection than I can get on both of my connections. I can't fathom why one would need that much speed, but I digress. In my case I live way, way out in the country, no cable, no DSL, I am stuck with satellite and tethering my smart phone. Now one might think the smart phone could solve it all, and true I have seen maintained speeds of 1600K with spikes over 2400K (saw almost 3000K once). Unfortunately those kinds of speeds are only reached in the very late evening and earlier morning hours (or if I am in town). During the day, while every once in a great while for a second it may hit those speeds, getting it to even give me an average 100K consistently, is a fantasy. Now, I also have satellite for my internet. And it speeds are decent for most things (on occation it get a bit slow), but they have this off the wall policy they call a fair usage policy (very dumb name for the policy). Basically if I use over 3GB of bandwidth (cost about $90/month) in a rolling 30 day window (not per month) they knock my speed back to about 80K till my usage for the rolling 30 day window is under 75% of my 3GB allowance. Basically I do not dare watch any videos or download anything more than a few MB in size, or I could end up stuck at horrendous speeds for a week or so.
So to make this all work I only do large downloads and watch videos using my phone. Usually I do downloads while I am sleeping, and if I wish to watch a movie, I have to do it late. But every once in while I will want to start a download at say 10am because its a fairly good chance it will be done before it gets to late. Or on occasion I have had large enough downloads that it takes longer than what I plan to be asleep for. So doing this means I have no, usable, internet access during the download. I have on several occasions tried enabling the satellite while a download on my phone was in progress but any attempts to access a web page would still go through my phones connection. Well today I found I needed a 200MB download and waiting on my phone was not an option (plus 200MB won't impact me too much) so I ran it on the satellite but while it was going I connected my phone and found all web site requests went through my phone, also a small update was found and it downloaded via the phone, all while the 200MB download continued on the satellite connection. So the question, is there a way that I can direct what connection is used? No matter what is connecting; IE, Firefox, Windows Update, Online Game, etc can I tell them which connection to use? I am not looking for load balancing, just to point a given activity to use a particular connection while simultaneously pointing another activity to use a different connection. So, for example, if I need a download I can use IE via the smart phone to download, while I use Firefox via the satellite to continue working.
