I was having problems with my i7 system freezing during installation. After reading through these forums I removed 2 sticks of RAM, my sound card, and my wireless PCI adapter and both of my WD hard drives. Everything's working now!
My question is at what point should I start reinstalling my hardware? Should I install my mobo drivers first? Can I also add everything back in at once now?
By the way, these forums seem really helpful! I'm looking forward to browsing through the different forums here!
I dont know what happened to me suddenly my antivirus AVG 2012 detect an intruder on the web browser and remove the browser morzila and after that I have no restore point but i dont know what happens and I feel that my PC has something strange how I can solve this problem?
As I've read over and over, it seems to take at least 4GB RAM to unleash the power of 64 bit computers. That being said, why do the PC makers install only 2GB and says it's not upgradable. In the future, will I be able to get a 4GB RAM upgrade for it. Had I paid attention when purchasing, I would have noticed.
However, my PC runs fine for me now, but what if I want to install some RAM hog programs? This is almost 2010, not 2000, when if you had 512MB RAM, you had something. But I assume that in the not too distant future, a 4GB option will be available to me.
Ive used DOS then Windows all my computing life (which happens also to be all my life) and i recently converted over to primarally using Unix Derivitives. Now Unix derivitives such as linux have a etc directory which stores all the conf and unmarked configuration files while DOS uses interdirectory INI files for configuration... WHile windows uses INI files, appdata directories in each user directory, a program data root directory, configuration directories in the windows/system32 directory AND the registery...... What is the point of it all, the registery is a great single point of failure and its redundant.
Just ordered the following router: TP-Link TL-WA901ND Advanced Wireless N Access Point: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories I have a garden shed 30 metres away so hopefully 802.11n should be able to reach. The aim is to use 802.11n so speed is better in my house and my shed. However I heard that 802.11g dongles and computers limit the network speed if you connect them to a router running 802.11n. (Can you do this?)So I might try running 802.11n on the new router (in the main house) and running an ethernet cable down from the new router to the shed where I will have my old Belkin (g) router running 802.11g (as a new access point, if you can do this- if not what are my options)On Amazon, this is the cheapest wire I could find but its not external so will it get damaged quickly if I have it exposed (will burying it underground make a difference?): High Quality 40M CAT5e RJ45 Ethernet Network Fast LAN: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
I have a PC with win 7 pro 64 bit which has been working fine for months. A few days ago, I fired up the PC and noticed an old wallpaper and some application icons in the desktop were missing and some that I had deleted suddenly back there. I looked at the restore points and there are none older than a few weeks, but this particular config is 8 months old. When I try and restore to a more recent recovery point I get an error message telling me that there is an invalid parameter.I rebooted the PC and all was well again for a day but now it has reverted to the old config and nothing seems to shift it.My data is intact ( backed up as well ) but I am at a loss as to a) what to do next and b) what caused this problem
I'll try to be detailed on this. I've worked on it and read on it for almost 7 hours and I'm stuck. I'm using a Win 7 Pro desktop that is hardwired and a Win 7 Home Premium laptop wireless. Both current on all updates. My Comcast modem is hooked into a WRT160N that is hardwired to a WRT400N which is being used as an access point, and to the desktop PC. Both routers have the latest firmware. Both routers have the same SSID and password but use different channels. (2 & 6) Internet works perfect both wired and wireless through both routers. The homegroup has been set up through the desktop but I've removed and added homegroups on both machines multiple times. My problem doesn't go away. The homegroup works when the laptop is either wired or wireless using the WRT160N. It will not work at all through the WRT400N. I can be in the room with the WRT160N on the homegroup, when I move to the other router so the wireless switches to the WRT400N, it drops the homegroup. The internet stays connected just fine. Once it drops the homegroup, it can't find it until I go back to the main router. Both machines have IPv6 addresses, auto discovery is on.
I have received email PPS, 13 Mb. But I cant open it with my new laptop. OFFICE HOME and STUDENT 2007 is installed. But I can open it with my old computer of 32 bits where Office home and Student 2007 is also installed (same CD).
I want to restore my computer to May 31, 2012 11.am so I type this in and I'm told the restore point has been created successfully. However, when it finishes I see that the computer will be restored.
I have Microsoft Power Point Reader installed. When I receive a Power Point presentation in an email, Windows 7 can't open it and I have to save it then open the Reader myself to see it.What can I do to get Windows 7 to find the Reader?
Whenever I boot up my computer from a shutdown or a restart, the following error message comes up:"FAEnrollWiz.exe - Entry Point Not Found (Title of the window)The procedure entry point fgetRTLREADING could not be located in the dynamic link library FAConsIfDLL.dll."Only option shown is an OK button.Ran CHKDSK and a few other basic diagnostics, but I'm thinking it's a problem in the registry.
I am having a problem with my system. Windows will not reboot for me and I have booted from the windows 7 cd, ran the repair option but the system restore points have vanished. I have tried doing a repair install but with no restore points what do I? I have way too much data stored on this laptop that I can not afford to lose.
so everytime I log-in to my computer it basically restores back to a certian point. And also It starts as a black screen with nothing except for my mouse until I open Task manager and run explorer.exe which for some reason doesnt run on its own anymore. Its probably due to the fact that I wanted to put a cool theme on my computer and that involves replacing the explorer.exe file and explorerframe.dll file, and I did that. But then I decided I didn't need a theme so I put the original Explorer.exe and explorerframe.dll back on to replace the ones I put on before. It changed everything back to normal except for the start orb. I wanted the old start back or atleast a new one. So I got windows Start orb changer. It worked well for some time until at one point everytime I turned on my computer I got an error saying expstart.exe failed and something about bitmaps. and It just black screens until I run explorer.exe from the task manager...and goes back a day or so
I recently noticed that many of my desktop icons (jpgs, pdfs) have a red circle with a white exclamation point and the system is running slow. I googled this and the only posts I could find relate to computers that use backup software, which I don't. Ever heard of this? I made a little screen grab which follows. The files can be viewed and edited but these flags can be seen throughout the system using Explorer
Do you guys know of a way to save a restore point and locking it that no matter what, it won't delete? I made a restore point and then installed Windows 7 service pack 1. The service pack screwed me so bad with software and hardware I used, I regret that I didn't do an acronis backup! When trying to fix the problems, I had reinstalled various drivers and uninstalled the Service pack, thus forcing Windows to create more automated restore points. Since my C drive is configured to use %30 of it's capacity for restore points, along the way, I guess my restore point was deleted because it's not in the restore points list, even if I check "show more restore points".I want to prevent this in the future so I am asking if if anyone knows how to create a restore point and LOCK it so no matter what, my restore point won't get deleted.
I created a restore point but fatfingered the description and it's bugging me. I want to rename it (the text in the "description" column of the restore point). I know restore points are in the System Volume folder and I deprotected the one for the C: volume to the extent.
I could and tried to recursively grep it in an administrator shell but many files were still "permission denied". Anyone know the exact files where the descriptions of the restore points are located? (I searched the registry without luck, so I assume they're in that directory with the actual data from the restore point.)
using windows 7 home premium sp1 with zone alarm, the checkpoint option is becoming annoying, when it pops up fine but then it keeps popping up telling me not to send any more info to zone alarm, when I click ok or the x button it disappears only to reappear moments later, once is fine, how can I stop it recurring, or is there a better option?
i want to exclude the restore point files from defragmentation (Defraggler has that option). Where are the restore points stored? I found a tool to make hidden files visible. There is some information on Google where XP stores the files, but it seems to be different in Windows 7.My reason for excluding that from defragging (and excluding my download and temp folders) is to speed up defragmentation. Those files ae in flux anyway and fast access is not needed.BTW: how can I add a picture to my name in this forum??? I didn't find it in my account
After having trouble with broadband issues after upgrading, I thought it could be a settings problem so did a system restore to undo anything I had done. But it has been going for around an hour and a half and is stuck on the initializing stage for ages. Just wondering how long it should take, getting slightly worried? Is there any safe way to get out of it if it is stuck? If so I probably will find a different way around it. Don't want to be breaking my laptop.
is virus will still exist in a affected files after doing a restore point in the day that the virus affect the file? hmm is doing a restore point is a effective way to avoid virus? now im experiencing a virus that cannot detect by anti-virus, i know that is a virus but every time i scan it with bit defender ,it scans that there's no treat found file that file name is sexy.jpg , xxx.mp4 and autorun (for sure its a virus) its came from flash drive of my cousin i try to scan it but the result was no treat found.when i try to open .jpg files all of my .txt files and installer files was collapse but there memory consume still exist i also try to show hidden files but no hidden in the flash drive.im not thinking of the files now but more i think of what if it affects my files without any notice.
I set a restore point 2 days ago manually. Today I have found it has been deleted and I may have to reformat because of this.I set my drive to hold 1.15gb in size for restore points. The current restore point is a mere 200mb yet it STILL decided to delete the old ones. Previously I've checked only to find 0 restore points despite the settings being adequate. It seems restore points simply don't work on my OS. They show up for a handful of hours and are automatically deleted (even the manually made ones).
I have installed WIndows7 in my Laptop dell xps 1330 about one and half months ago. It was running perfect and was not a trial version for one month.
However, still I can update my windows and so forth as original. The fact was, I installed some programmes and softwares which I used before, in Windows Vista! Now-a-days, I experience having problem with the touch pad, CD Rom hardware and Volume...
1. touch pad stucks, pointer doesn't move sometimes.
2. CD Rom start functioning automatically without having a CD inside.. sounds like CD is ejecting from rom.
3. volume button starts increasing automatically and sometimes mutes !
what I guess, it's a virus. I installed a scroll pad driver, I thought the problem was due to the driver. After uninstalling that driver, the touch pad was functioning normally (without the scroll functioning though) and the error was removed. But after two days, I see the same problem again..
