Administrator Account Does Not Have Full Privileges

Apr 16, 2011

This is a new computer (laptop) with 7 Pro. The Administrator account has full privileges, but if I try to create a new account with administrator privileges, it does not have the full privileges--i.e., its a though its a more limited account even though it says its an administrator account. I have checked and there does not seem to be any fix for this except reinstalling windows--although this computer just came with OEM and I don't have a CD. Any way to correct it?

Guest Account Has Administrator Privileges?

Mar 31, 2011

I don't know how, but my 13-yo daughter somehow managed to change the name of the Guest account on my notebook (running Win7 Home Premium) to "NomNomMonster" and give it administrator privileges. When I turn the Guest account off, the name shown reverts to "Guest", but when I turn it back on, the name is once again "NomNomMonster" and shows administrator privileges. how to restore the Guest account to its normal name and status?

Main (And Only) Account Not Having Administrator Privileges

Dec 30, 2010

Basically if I wanna change settings or install things, I cannot. It says I need to be the administrator, I have no clue why my account changed to standard. Here's what I've tried to resolve my problem, but it has not worked.

- Control Panel> User Accounts> Change Your Account Type> Admin.> Select
Didn't work and when I go back to it, it still says standard.

- Run> netplwiz> Name of Account> Admin> Access denied
How to fix this so my only account can be an admin?

Administrator Privileges In Windows 7?

May 13, 2011

I've searched a number of other forums, looked under Admin privileges in the search panel, checked through the other threads as far as I could, and checked references to Naturally Speaking but cannot find a solution to this problem. I'm not at all technical so will need word of one syllable aI had a local company build me a new computer. I installed windows 7 on the blank disc with just one single user (me) who was classed as administrator. Until recently it worked fine. I installed Naturally Speaking on it and set up a profile. It worked fine from the initial session after installation but, after it had been closed, whenever I tried to restart it the program would load but any attempt to load my profile got the error message: The user file you have selected cannot be accessed. This could be because you do not have sufficient privileges to use it or because it is being accessed by another program."

Attempting to run the program as an administrator gets the message that it cannot be run in enhanced mode. I contacted Nuance (who make NS) and had a long correspondence with them.had no effect. After uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times and ending up with the same result, I uninstalled it and ran a removal program from Nuance to clear every trace of it. Just recently - to solve a problem with windows that recently appeared - I reinstalled Windows 7 using the update facility on the Win7 installation disc. This worked fine and once again I only had the one single user who had administrator status. There were no working guest or other users.I tried Naturally speaking again with the same result. Once again I completely removed it from the system. I then set up a new user with Administrator privileges. Going into that user I installed NS again. This time it worked fine. I can start it from that user and it works well. If I go to the first user screen there is also an icon for Naturally Speaking but once again, if I start it I can't load my profile with the error message above.

It's not particularly convenient if I have to switch users to use NS. It all seems to be to do with Win 7 Administrator status. Can anyone suggest a way that the original Administrator (me) can get the same administrator privileges as the second user seems to have under his administrator status. It seems a ridiculous situation that one user can use it while the other can't.Sorry to have rambled on but I was trying to give as complete a picture as possible.[CODE]

Unable To Use Administrator Privileges?

Mar 28, 2012

I own an hp touchsmart 310-1020 pc running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I was trying to sync my iPad 2 to iTunes via USB, but iTunes kept freezing up as soon as I clicked on any function. So I tried to repair it via apple's iTunes download. That didn't work as I still had the same issue. So I uninstalled it. And then tried to reinstall it. It downloaded just fine, but when it tries to install it pops up with a message saying "You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as an administrator and then retry this installation." My problem is that I am logged in as the administrator, and as such should have full privileges. How do I check that?

Windows 7 - Administrator Privileges To Deny For All

Apr 18, 2012

While attempting to set up a new computer on our network I seem to have lost access to many documents and lost permission to many folders. While setting up a new computer we began playing with what programs and documents the new computer could access. (The new machine is to be used for clients, and for internet/printing privileges) we did not want the computer to access anything on the network except the printer.

We did the above by right clicking on the public folders where we kept our documents, opening the security tab and restricting the permissions. We would then deny the new computer access via the ownership tab. This seemed to work as the new computer on the network had no access to our files but could still print to the printer on the shared network. I wasn't on the computer at the time, (my lackey status didn't permit as such) and I think somehow the other person managed remove our access to the programs/documents.

I think they did this by changing the admin privileges to deny for all. I am guessing that's what happened because now when I try and take ownership of the files I am unable to open them. It will let me take ownership of the files but then still says me access is denied when I try to open any of the selected files of documents. (does not prompt for password). In short, Is there a way to reestablish my admin privileges after what appears to be simple mistake on which account was selected?

Why Doesn't Local Administrator Group Have Full Administrator Rights

Feb 22, 2010

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.

We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.

Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.

Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

Cannot Elevate Privileges Temporarily On Standard User Account?

Jun 20, 2012

So I have an administrator account for maintenance purposes and I also have my frequently used standard account. Usually, when you right click on a program, for example: Spybot S&D There is an option to "Run as Administrator". And if you click it, it prompts for an admin password.but for me, it does not ask for an admin password, it just ignores the fact that I clicked that completely, and runs it as a standard user.

This happens whenever I need admin privileges for something. I cannot elevate my privileges on a standard user account. It used to work properly, until I changed my account type to standard, and enabled the Administrator account.

Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium
Dell Inspiron N7010

Default User Account (Administrator) Acts Like Standard Account

Oct 31, 2011

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.

I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

Windows 7 Reinstall - Setting Default User Account As Admin With Privileges

Apr 3, 2011

I'm getting pretty good at reinstalling Windows 7 (Clean) - However I do have a question: What is the best way to set myself up as the Administrator so I don't constantly have to work around those pesky "You need administrator privileges to do xxx". I would think that even with setting my default user account as an Administrator, there would be a way to really be an Administrator.

Can't Change A Standard Account To An Administrator Account

Feb 18, 2012

I recently logged onto my account about 2 days ago to finish a project. The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens. I deleted any recent program installations,I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /[]":;|<>=+,?*Please type a different name."I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing! My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I was trying to use is in her account.why my account was changed and how I can change it back?

Administrator Having No Full Permissions

Dec 24, 2012

Not a big deal and kind of humorous but on my Win 7 PC I have administrator access. But there are times the computer says I don't have access to do a particular function and that I need Admin access to do the task, even though I am the one logged in and have administrator access.I guess I could generate another account and give admin access and see if that works but was just wondering if there was something weird about a setting.

Do Not Have Full Administrator Priveleges

Aug 15, 2011

My problem is with my new laptop running Windows 7. I am trying to open a couple different applications and am being denied access although I am listed as "Administrator".

I followed a step-by-step to change my access by allowing myself to have "Full Control" but when it goes through files many of them say "Access Denied" and I have to click "Ok" a thousand times.

I fear that I've already picked up something nasty on my machine. I have downloaded Spybot and it's giving me the below information after clicking the "Fix Above" button:

-An error occured while trying to archive into the quarantine. Cannot create file "C:\Quarantine.reg". Access is denied

-An error occured while trying to archive into the quarantine. Cannot create file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\Quarantine.reg". Access is denied

The second one repeats 2 more times.

Administrator Account Not Accessible

My Windows7 suddenly displayed a default desktop. I then did an unsuccessful system restore, tried the undo and got stuck. From there on, when I want to log in I end up at the error message "The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". I tried to activate the administrator account by using "net user administrator /active:yes". The command executes, but administrator never shows up on the login screen. I cannot start Windows 7 in safe mode. A few seconds after the safe mode login screen appears the computer restarts automatically. No administrator account is listed here either.
