View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got a call from a friend who recently bought a new laptop running Win 7. He says he was originally able to get to his email (presumably through a selection on his browser) but something changed and he can no longer find a way to access his email. The friend has little or no technical knowledge, so most of my questions resulted in an "I dunno" response.
I plan to visit him tonight for a look-see. I am not up to date with Win 7 features. Is OE still used for mail in Win 7? I use Thunderbird myself, and found it works well in Win 7. Do not know what mail prog. is now a MS standard with Win 7.I will try get more info and to dope things out on my visit. If we know his provider and email ID do you think we can get to his existing account and set up things so he can once again get is Email?
New to Windows 7, I'd like to gain some screen space by hiding the Bing bar and seeing only the Google screen. But then there is no email icon. My email is from Outlook.com, with an @msn.com address. Is there a way to add an icon to the Google screen so I can go to my email with a single click?

Where are my files?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased an HP laptop running Vista just when Windows 7 was coming out. It included a coupon to upgrade to Windows 7. I ordered the upgrade disks.I finally ran the upgrade to Windows 7 including performing the suggested backup of all my files on a separate hard drive. The instructions indicated that I would be saving my email and contacts that was a part of Windows Mail. Now that I am running Win 7, I don't have access to Windows Mail and I don't know where my email files might reside. What can I do now to gain access to my old emails and contracts?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again. At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found. One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard. So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then. But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]

I seem to have misplaced said key, and tried to find my key via finders, etc. I found one that is in the finder and the CD file, but it gives me an error that states my key is a default key that cannot be used for activation.I've also noticed that it says 2 Days until Automatic Activation. What is this, and will it activate Windows 7
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running XP for some years and recently set up Win 7 on a new SSD. In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI paid £30 for the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade as I'm a student. Yesterday I bought a new 500GB HDD and some more RAM to use for Windows 7. I downloaded the files from the link provided in the e-mail I got, and extracted. I was then given a strange error message, which upon Googling turned out to be because I was running XP 32bit whilst trying to install a 64bit O/S. One of the workarounds was to burn the setup to a disc using OSCDIMG and Nero, and install from boot.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently on a site that explained how to install Windows 7 upgrade there was info on how to remove your Windows 7 Activation Key after activation.
The reason I want to do this is so that someone can't run Magic Jelly Bean and reveal my key. This happened before so that fix explaining hiding or removing it sounds great.
I've searched high and low and can't find this info anymore. Has anyone heard of how to do this?
I just got a job as an IT assistant and one of my first projects was to make a deployment image of both Windows XP and Windows 7.
I did a bit of reading into the "Sysprep" tool, and actually did make a successful image, the problem is that it asks for a serial number each time. Our computers are Dell workstations that come with Windows 7 on them already, pre-activated, so this doesn't really work.
What I did for our XP workstations was this: Preserving OEM Pre-Activation when Re-installing Windows XP That worked like a charm. I have it set up to automatically connect to the domain, and everything, all the user has to fill in is their name and the name of the PC.
Is there something similar for Windows 7? I'm assuming Microsoft is not going to just hand out serial numbers like that until 7 is EOL like XP is, but is there some other way to do it? Provided I have the pre-activated one installed, can I have it not deactivate or prompt for a serial number upon running Sysprep?
I fired up the old Pent-III 600mhz x86 box earlier to update the AVG antivirus, since it had not been turned on in about 30 days.
I got so involved downloading Captain Zero's HD WallPapers & browsing the threads today, that I had forgot it was running in the other room. When I went over to it, the screen says need to be activated. Wait a minute, this was RC 7229 x86. That should still be good until 2010 ? So I got out the trusty RC Key code, & typed it in. Clicked on activate. A few minutes go by, then not a valid key! What
So then I went to Start & typed in Winver 7600
Did Microsoft just update this RC Build 7229 ??
Not to be outdone by Microsoft, I just got out my legit list of TechNet keys & typed one in. Click on activate. Whoah this sure was slow, about 5 minutes
Shaaaazaaammmmmm Activated
I guess The Future came Back to The Present !
I was able to complete the steps for the VHD. When I try to activate Windows (on the VHD) I get this error: 0x80070017

I have been assured that the Windows 7 Ultimate installed on this computer is a genuine copy and am informed that is indicated in Control Panel/System.The CPU and Motherboard were recently upgraded with with the Windows 7 installation in place. I was under the impression that major hardware changes required re-activation. The owner (I have not seen the computer as yet) states that wasn't required but now programs like FSX and some related flight sim addons do not now work.Rumor has suggested that computer repairman that normally works on this computer has in the past installed pirated software on other computers.Maybe I am a little suspicious as I suggested that the computer should be reformatted, Windows 7 Ultimate re-installed and we go from there. That suggestion was rejected and I am only required to fix FSX and associated software.
I am aware roughly the date when the hardware updates were carried out and for piece of mind would like to know when the activation was carried out and if it was legal. My question is (and apologies for lengthy post): is the date of activation available via the Registry? and what other options are available to check if the copy of Windows 7 is lega
