View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an HP laptop running Vista just when Windows 7 was coming out. It included a coupon to upgrade to Windows 7. I ordered the upgrade disks.I finally ran the upgrade to Windows 7 including performing the suggested backup of all my files on a separate hard drive. The instructions indicated that I would be saving my email and contacts that was a part of Windows Mail. Now that I am running Win 7, I don't have access to Windows Mail and I don't know where my email files might reside. What can I do now to gain access to my old emails and contracts?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using windows Live email and I lost all my saved emails which were serveral hundred. I had a folder in the same root as my Inbox with sub folders and now they are gone. I would like to make a folder on the root directory of my hard drive and save them to that so this does not happen again. I have 3 hard drives so every couple of days I can just copy them over to the other 2 hard drives so this really can not happen again. What a nightmare. How can I do this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed windows live mail on an XP machine 2 months ago, when my bridged version of Win-7 crashed for the 3rd time, and all the mail I had on the crashed Win-7 machine showed up on the XP machine. I had to delete hundreds of unwanted mail. I have done this 4 times, one each for 2 crashed Win-7 upgrade installs, and on the XP.Today, I set up my new win-7 machine, and installed Windows Live Mail. It only collected today's e-mails, and nothing else.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have put several e-mail addresses into my Windows Live E-mail folder. Some are Comcast addresses, some Gmail. I have set one of my Gmail addresses as my default e-mail address. This default setting doesn't hold. When I open my e-mail folder and try to send a new email, the default setting no longer shows. This requires that I set my outgoing e-mail address manually, which I should not need to do once I set my default address.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy installation of Windows Live Mail automatically checks for and retrieves email even though I have set it NOT to do that.
In Tools - Options - General I unchecked "Send and receive messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every [time is grayed out]" Yet the program still automatically checks for email and downloads it.
I have my Hotmail account set up, and I could sort of see that account automatically retrieveing mail, but I also have other accounts set up through my ISP and through my own domain, and these are also being automatically checked even though I have cleared the checkboxes described above.
I have closed the program and rebooted since unchecking those boxes (this has been going on for an extended time, several weeks at least). Am I missing some option somewhere, or is this just broken? I can't imagine it's the intended behavior. I'm running Windows 7 x64, Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.0726).
Starting Windows Live Mail I get error messages (for the last 3-4 months):
"We noticed some unusual activity in your account. ... we temporarily blocked your account." Pressing [OK} -->
next message:
"Your account has been temporarily blocked..

Installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1 yesterday. Today, Windows Live Mail is asking for my username and password for my Comcast mail account. The name & password provided are correct. When I try to open my Comcast mail from the Comcast site, it times out. I AM able to send emails from Live Mail...

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a call from a friend who recently bought a new laptop running Win 7. He says he was originally able to get to his email (presumably through a selection on his browser) but something changed and he can no longer find a way to access his email. The friend has little or no technical knowledge, so most of my questions resulted in an "I dunno" response.
I plan to visit him tonight for a look-see. I am not up to date with Win 7 features. Is OE still used for mail in Win 7? I use Thunderbird myself, and found it works well in Win 7. Do not know what mail prog. is now a MS standard with Win 7.I will try get more info and to dope things out on my visit. If we know his provider and email ID do you think we can get to his existing account and set up things so he can once again get is Email?
