ASUS G60Vx -- Getting Too Hot And Shutting Down?
Jul 8, 2012
I have tried many things, among which was uninstalling software, managing my startups, using CCleaner, but still my computer gets too hot and then shuts down. I need to find out what is causing this problem so that I can fix it, but I'm lost at this point.I have an ASUS G60Vx notebook with Intel Core2 Duo CPU P7450 @2.13Ghz, 4GB memory, 64-bit operating system running Windows7 Home Premium.

So a few months back I got myself an Asus G60VX with Windows 7 64bit on it. Everything was going good until one day it wouldn't go past the Windows graphic loading screen. For hours. It was very frustrating.
In order to backup my hard drive, I brought in an Ubuntu Live CD to temporarily run Linux and backup my files on an external hard drive. Then I used the CDs provided for me by Asus to recover/wipe the system. Came with 2 discs: One titled "Windows 7 Recovery for Windows 7 Products," the other, "Driver&Utility Ver 1.0 G60VX."
I booted up the Recovery CD, it booted up. After a few tries with it freezing up along the way, I finally made it through the recovery, and the computer requested the "support CD," so I put in the Driver/Utility CD. Again, after multiple tries with it freezing up along the way, I FINALLY made it through the driver installations, and it brought me to the screen: "Setup is preparing your computer for first use."
There is now nothing I can do to get past it. I've tried F8, starting in safe mode, no matter what I do. The reason this is pissing me off so much is because I'm totally going the legit route and everything.

My new ASUS laptop will not shut down. I saw a thread a couple of days ago where a Richc46 said to try disconnecting the internet connection and then trying to shut down and if that worked he knew how to fix it. However, the thread ended there. I tried this and disconnecting the internet connection worked.I think Richc46 said it was something to do with the device manager, but I may be remembering that wrong. All of the other shut down menu options work (hibernate, sleep, restart, etc), it just won't shut down and restarts instead.I had tried the disconnection of the internet and it worked and successfully shut down ONCE. I just tried it again and it is restarting like it had been, so it's not as easy as just stopping the internet connection.

I don't want anything too crazy, just something I can take with me on my IT jobs...
I've narrowed it down to these two...
AMD - Asus X5 Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer
and
Intel - Asus X5DIJ Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer
The main differences from what I can see is. The Intel has the extra gig of RAM but the AMD has the better graphics chip.
I do not know how the CPU's compare.
I would be ever so grateful for some good advice.

It's all about my friend's PC and it has the following configuration:
[code]...
The first thing i want to do is to buy a new single RAM memory of 2 GB at 800MHz, because personally I think that the RAM is the weak link of the system. The first question is: What is the best combination? To have 3GB of RAM at 667MHz or 2GB at 800MHz.Now with the currently configuration (1GB at 667MHz) the level of used RAM memory in idle is 75%.The other problem is that every time when the PC is shutting down, the green light turns off and the red one is blinking very fast, giving you the impression that it's always lit; and the red light intensity is very low; (it emits less light). The PC has 2 coolers (one for CPU and other to the power source ...and the VGA doesn't have a cooler) and when the PC is shutting down the phenomenon with the lights happens and one of the coolers will never stop (i don't know which of them).the red light is blinking very fast at low light intensity and a cooler is on.and those will never end up until you will press the shut down button for a few seconds. The system was configured (installed the OS and the other programs)... by a guy with knowledge and he said that this happens because of the newer OS installed. (Windows 7).This problem doesn't appear when restarting the PC.It appears only when the system is shutting down. The second question is: Can the small capacity of RAM (1GB) lead to this phenomenon?

I am having an issue with windows 7 64bit. Every time i am done using the pc, it will randomly shut down, at different times. I have no clue what the issue is. I do not have a heat problem , nor PSU problem. When I am on the computer, whether it is 20 mins or 4 hours, no problems, but when I am done using it, and nothing is being used, it will just shutdown.

i have a windows 7 laptop, and i'll be either working on a document or trying to upload an edited video to Internet when my computer inexplicably shuts down - taking with it all my hard work. i've run malwarebytes antimalware and it finds nothing. i also installed a norton security suite from comcast recently, so i don't know if that has something to do with it.

I have a non-tech friend whose windows 7 machine has started shutting down as soon as he signs in. I have used combofix previously but he cannot get windows up long enough to run it in normal node. I had him boot into safe mode and checked out msconfig and the registry to see if anything was hung out there. I don't have any other options other than running combofix in safemode but I understand that is possibly problematic.

it is a week or so that I have a problem with my PC.When I shut down the PC, instead of turning off, he restart. Before restarting, for a brief moment I can see a BSOD screen, but I cannot read it.After the PC restart, I see a small window telling me that the PC was restored due to an error. [code] A week and a half ago, I installed two add-on cards ( a PCI USB card and a PCIE USB 3.0 card), and with the PCI I has troubles to make it run, so I uninstalled it and I sent it back to the store. With the USB 3.0 instead everything was fine.I dont know if this is related to the problem I have right now.

here is a real head scratcher for you guys. My system will on occassion just shutdown. Its not a hard shutdown, it goes thru the normal Windows 7 shutdown process as if I had told it to shut down. I can boot it right back up, and all is well, nothing out of the ordinary. I checked out the event viewer and the only thing in there before this happened is an error with "Event ID: 36888" and it gives this as a description "The following fatal alert was generated: 70. The internal error state is 105". I have no clue what is going on. It has not done this while I was actually using it, it has always happened while I was away from it.

i just finished building my PC and got windows 7 installed on my 32gb ssd. I then installed all the drivers etc, for the mobo, gpu, wireless card. So everything seems to be working fine but when i click start and shut down, the shut down has the shield logo thing next to it for updates and when i click on shutdown it says theres 92 updates. So i waited for it to install them and when its done it configures them and windows comes back up. But then when i go to shutdown again it still says theres 92 updates to install and does it all again.

I've recently build a gaming computer in the beginning of December. For the first three weeks, everything was working fine. By that, I mean that my computer can shut down properly. Now, what happens is that whenever I shut down my computer (or most of the time), the screen is either frozen on "shutting down", or the screen says "shutting down" but it doesn't actually shuts down. It just keeps loading and roughly 5 minutes later, it restarts.
I've tried reformatting my computer and performing a clean boot, but this problem keeps on occurring. I don't know what could possibly be causing this problem. indows 7 home premium 64-bit Motherboard: gigabyte z77x-ud3h ram: kingston hyperx 8gb 1600mhz
processor: intel i5 3570k graphic card: evga gtx 560 ti superclocekd power supply: thermaltake tr2 rx 750w bronze hard drive: WD caviar black 1tb
Not sure if its relevant, but I was using a friend's ram stick before (kingston 8gb 1333mhz). It was about after I got my own ram stick, the kingston hyperx, that this problem started to occur. Also, I am not and have not overclocked my computer.
