View 0 RepliesSo I've been seeing this instead of like a thumbnail of the beginning of the video.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy hubby is running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on an Emachines PC.
Intermittently picture thumbnails and program icons will suddenly stop showing up and will turn to only blank white icons. (Sometimes it affects a few files or the whole folder) You can see the thumbnails one minute, go out and back into the directory, and they are gone. Refreshing the folder view does not bring the thumbs back.
Going into other folders is fine and thumbnails show, but once it fails on a particular folder, it will continue to NOT show thumbs or icons for that folder until a restart is done. We have also tried to clean the thumbnails cache to no avail. This problem happens on all drives, flash drives, network drives, local drives, etc...)
There is one other bug that may be related. Sometimes his My Computer will not load. He can get to My Documents etc... but My Computer hangs forever until he restarts. It is an intermittent problem as well so hard to debug.
I'm never the one to ask, but I don't know what happened. I tried looking online but I couldn't find any solutions. It seems like all my icons (including folders) are not showing up in windows explorer, taskbar, or the desktop anymore. This isn't too big a problem, but navigating through my picture library is very complicated without thumbnails. My PC is pretty heavily customized. I also cannot open the start menu from the taskbar anymore. I click the startorb and nothing appears. Screenshots
Also, while I was uploaded the three screenshots to imgur, the icons showed up on the popup to windows explorer.
this afternoon they began showing only ONE column, on the left side of the folder. the remainder of the folder is blank. see attached screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing.I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.
I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.
At start up the icons are back on the grid and pushed to the left.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTrying to figure out a way to display thumbnails in certain folders (ie: Photos & Videos) and icons in others. Unfortunately it seems this isn't possible, as the only option I've found is to always show thumbnails in all folders or always show icon's.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using windows 7 professional for over a year now, two days ago most of my icons (all microsoft office icons, and some other softwares) have been changed to default. They all function properly, just the icon is changed to default. Its irritating.
I tried searching on this forum for similar issues, most of them have been corrected by changing shell icon folder from regedit. I can locate that on my system.
My notification area will not stay customized. I have set 5 icons to always show, but after a windows update, scan by MSE or even after a reboot, the area changes back to the default of only showing the volume and action center flag.Is there a setting anywhere to "keep" the customize settings?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy System OS: Win 7 x64.All ICONs for MS apps, Snagit, UltraEdit/Compare , Adobe got wacked when I installed Solarwinds Advanced Subnet Calculator v9.0.6.I have a request out to them to see if they have any knowledge. How do I get the original icons back?I had this happen a short while back but did not know when it happened and after trying the myriad ideas that I came across on the web and thru this form learned that this seems to be a known issues and has been since Vista but no fixes surfaced. As it has been some time since my last post perhaps someone has uncovered a fix.I just tried using the restore point back to before the Solarwinds App was installed and no change so it seems that whatever files got smacked by the application install did not get changed back by the restore point operation.

How to Change Windows 7 Default Control Panel Icons ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI just got rid of that stupid Windows Restore virus and now my startup menu->all programs show the folders but non of the shortcuts inside them. I was wondering if someone knows a fast way to restore default windows 7 start up icons like Windows media, microsoft word, calculator? Or better yet if they know how I can get all my startup menu program folders to be restored, rather than show up as (empty)? I've tried an unhide program after the virus was removed and it fixed my documents, but it says to turn off firewalls etc. to restore startup menu which ive tried many times.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA few months ago I upgraded my PC and reformatted my main HDD (C Partition) to Win 7. After the reformat, I changed the default installation location to the larger partition (E) via adjustments in the registry through regedit.exe.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players. But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've never been a fan of the login welcome screen that was implemented in windows XP, however back then I could disable it to have the more classic login screen where you just type in username and password.
I can't find any option like this on Windows 7, seems impossible to change the login method, but at the same kind it can't possibly be impossible. That would render Windows 7 useless for any larger workplaces where you're connected to servers with hundreds of usernames. So anyone know how to do it?
Causing me to unplug it and plug it back in again. It happens mostly when it's been idle for some time.
I'm guessing it's something to do with the power management? Also maybe a recent update has upset some setting or something...
Got a list of Vaio updates to attend to but I'm not sure if I want any of them? The thing works so only win 7 updates
I have just finished my first custom build pc and everything is up and running great. But there is a couple of problems, the biggest one being that windows 7 seems to be stuck in classic theme. I am running windows 7 home on my core i5 2500k with a radeon hd 6770. I have tried all sorts of things and can not get this fixed.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSome (not all) videos which I play are having their audio delayed by 3.5 seconds and the video starts from 3.5 seconds itself(but shows as 00:00:00).I can fix this by using the setting audio delay function in MPC as -3500. This happens only in MPC. When I play it in Windows media player it works normally.I am guessing there is some problem in video encoding but then it works fine in Window media player. Most video files I have is in AVI format. But I encountered this problem in a MP4 video too. Another thing worth noticing is that when I try converting the problem files into a different format, it fails.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit about a year ago and finally decided to install it on one of my systems. It installed without any problems however, when I tried to set it up for the classic view, (which is the way I like to see my files and folders,) I couldn't find the way to set the classic view up.Then, I tried to install files into a game I installed but Windows 7 would only let me install them alphabetically and I was not able to install them randomly. Is there a way, and how do I set Windows 7 up to look the way I want it too and install the files the way I want them to install?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been looking for a way to change the logon screen to more of a classic windows look, without success. Then the other day I saw this image on a blog: [URL]. That is basically what I would like to have. DSurely that is a modified logon screen? It does say "Copyright 2008 Microsoft...", so maybe this is from one of the earlier builds of 7?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy main consideration in choosing the appearance of my desktop and windows thereon is clarity, ease of reading any text, and distinguishing between windows at a glance, and also keeping performance to a maximum. To this end, having tried various Aero themes, although I did like the rounded corners of windows, for the sake of clarity I abandoned Aero for my own customized Windows Classic appearance. Not flashy but at least clearer for me than any of the other themes. When I installed Windows 7 I quickly reverted to Windows Classic, and chose for the active window title bar colours dark green as Color 1 and a lightish blue for Color 2 (with yellow text), so there was a gradient from green to blue along the title bar. I'm not bothered about whether anyone else likes that - it's served me well for the best combination of clarity and agreeableness through various Windows versions.
Yesterday I followed a tip from a magazine and ran the Windows 7 screen colour calibration facility. After I'd run that I noticed that all my active windows had just the dark green and no gradient. When I went into the Personalize facility to change that back, I found that Color 2 was greyed out, so that I could not set it again.I know this is a silly little point, but actually the gradient did make the active windows look less severe and 'blocky', and I'd like to restore my ability to set the second colour.Reverting to Aero is no option as far as I'm concerned, for to me multiple windows look to me extremely confusing in Aero, and some taskbar text is difficult to read, no matter what colour / lightness settings one uses.Somehow I doubt whether my calibrating the screen colours had anything to do with the little problem I've run into; I assume it must be just coincidence. I did, however, recently switch to manual a few supposedly non-essential services, and just possibly the change occurred then but I didn't notice it till after I'd done that screen colours calibration.
Been fooling about with customizations for Windows 7 and just tried 'Classic Start Menu' from The Code Project at: Code: [URL]. The final version is actually here: Code: [URL] No trouble with the app itself, it works a treat, and delivers a classic XP-type Start Menu in Windows 7. My question concerns the very useful 'Search Programs and Files' facility that opens when the regular Start button is clicked. When Classic Start Menu is installed, this option is missing. If this search box can still be accessed when Classic Start Menu is in place? I'd ask on the Source Forge forum but I'm having trouble logging in there. BTW, one interesting tip that I've learned during this 'crusade' is that the Search Programs and Files boxmenu pops up when the Windows key is clicked.
