I have 32 bit Windows 7 installed and it says only 3.44 GB of RAM is usable which I'm fine with... if it doesn't count video ram as well. I have 2GB of video RAM -- is that included in this total? If so, how can I tell which percentage is being set aside for video ram and which percentage is being set aside for general ram?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know what happened but yesterday its like my computer died, It worked fine then all of a sudden shut down and now its a mess, When it starts up it takes forever and Norton doesn't start, It won't allow me to do any updates through the control panel, I can't open any program that includes explorer(obviously am not using my computer), norton, anything and trying to open stuff in safe mode does nothing either.I tried the .exe fix by downloading it on a different comp and using a usb drive but i just get random error messages and nothing seems to happen when it says it merged.I tried a system restore but even the oldest choice it gave me I still had same issues. At this point I'd be fine wiping everything clean and starting with it as a new computer like when i got it i am not worried about losing any info I can deal with it.

I have also noticed this seems to happen most when the CPU is busy. Why is the CPU busy you ask? Well it appears theat the windows search feature is eating between 80 - 100% CPU. I have tuned the search service off and GP seems to behave a lot more reliably but then users can't search or find anything / including Emails.

If I click on properties for my C drive, I see that 66GB of the total 96GB is used. That seemed high for just program files so I expanded the view and looked at each one.

So you can see that I can only see about 33GB of what is supposed to be 65.9GB used. How can I see what is eating up the rest of the space? I went into Ctl Panel and clicked on View Hidden Files but still only see about half of what the system says in on the disk.
At any rate, I just got myself a new ASUS laptop running windows 7 64-bit. Now I had no problems with it setting up Firefox, installing antivirus or installing the host of windows updates.What did happen is that when I tried to reboot (for the second time, first time wasn't a problem) it gave me a screen called "configuring windows features". Now I at this point I cried out a few curses and went to have something to eat.When I returned, half an hour later, the progress was still at 15%, the same as when I left it. Obviously having frozen up, I gave it a quick search. People with similar problems with windows updates reccomended forcing a powerdown despite the warning.After waiting for another half hour I did just that. Now Windows is refusing to start at all. It just sits at the "starting Windows" screen. Safe mode gets stuck on the screen with the list of drivers and restoration tools just gives me a black screen.

If I try to launch sidebar.exe, it will appear as shown in picture. If I close this window, sidebar.exe will be terminated as well. I've tried deleting the gadget cache but it seems not working.

I followed instructions saying to open in safe mode and delete profile files ending .bak via the regeditor.Now it boots up but all the user information is gone, desktop icons etc. The worst is all my microsoft outlook messages which contained hundreds of important messages. View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a live CD of Ubuntu in order to install it alongside Windows 7. I began the installation, and suddenly the diagram (the one showing how much space each OS takes) stopped showing Windows. Almost immediately after, the installation kicked me back to the live CD, saying the installation failed. Still using the live CD, I saw that Ubuntu had not finished, but the little it did install was simply lingering on my drive. For some reason - probably sheer shock coupled with sleep deprivation - I didn't check to see if anything remained of Windows 7 before I shut down the computer. I then removed the live CD and booted the computer up.
After POST, I'm greeted by a screen that looks like the command prompt, but I am unable to input any commands. I first tried to access the recovery partition by pressing F9 at startup (which used to work), but it simply cuts to the aforementioned black screen. I also tried using various emergency boot discs, but none of them worked; some weren't recognized/loaded, and others partially loaded before displaying an error message. Since then, I have yet to get it to boot to a disc without an error occurring. I am going to contact ASUS and have (a) recovery disc(s) sent, but I doubt they'll do any good; I can't get the computer to load discs, and that's not even mentioning my likely-gone recovery partition. I'm also concerned that my HDD is irreparably damaged.
I Upgraded My Windows7 Starter To Ultimate Recently And Everything Was Going Fine, But I Wasn't Happy With The Disk Space Because I Had Ubuntu As Second OS And I Wanted More Space For Win7. ( Ubuntu Was In The same Partition As Win7 C: ). I Searched For Ways Of Increasing The Size Of The Partition But I Didn't Understood Them So I Deleted Ubuntu. The Space Wasn't Recovered (Unallocated Space) So I Still Searched For Ways Of Making The Partition Size Bigger And i Found a Way That Said If You Right Clicked The Gray Square Of Disk Utility And Click a Phrase That i Don't Remember You Can Show the "Resize" Option Of the Partition.i Did That and i Received a Notification Dialog That Said That Said That If i Do That All The Partitions (OS's, Files, And Drivers) Would Be Deleted And I Like A DUMB Clicked "Ok" At Next Restart There Was No Boot Manager, The Boot Just Loaded Again And Again. So I Installed Ubuntu Using a Bootable USB (Current OS) And There Was No "Install Alongside Other OS" Option. I Tried To Run Windows 7 Setup Again Using a Bootable USB, But I Get Stuck at The Part That You Must Select The Drivers Needed So Windows Could Read The Partitions. I Have The CD With The Drivers But i Have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook With No CD Drive So i Downloaded All The Drivers That the Factory Installs From Dell.com And Saved It on A USB But the Windows 7 Setup Doesn't Recognize The Drivers, It Only Recognize The USB But Not It Contents(Drivers).I Want To Keep Using Windows 7 And All Programs i Need Windows But It Seems Like Ubuntu Is My Only Option.

The problem is that other computers on this network connected to the internet via my computer so my computer needs to have static IP address of 192.168.0.1 but when Guest account is logged in my system forgets the static IP address I have set in my other admin account. I am not even sure that LAN is connected when the Guest account logs in. My admin account is logged in and locked so I suppose all programs and settings there should still be working. How do I make sure that my ethernet settings are working the same way for guest account too. I am not worried about Guest account being able to access the local network.

I checked my computer's properties and found that Windows is only using 2.84 gigs of my computer's 4 gigs of ram. Is there any way I can force it to use 4 gigs? When I first installed the OS and everything Windows said I had 3.25GB ram usable or something like that which is normal but for some reason I now only have 2.92 usable and I don't know why >.< (this may have happened when SP1 was installed)

Okay, this is really weird. Previously, I had had a ordered a kit of 4GB ram with one defective stick. After installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with the good stick, I RMA'd the kit back to newegg. The exchange arrived today, and after installing the new kit of ram, windows only recognizes 3.26GB of it! Under the system information panel, it says:
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.26 useable)
despite me having a 64 bit OS.
Whats up with this? I Memtested the ram and it shows up as only 3255 MB in there also.
Does anyone know why?

I have 6144mb of ram on my Compaq Presario CQ62 402AU. So I have the 2GB Hp stick which came with the laptop (2GB DDR3 1066MHz) and I have a 4GB stick from G-Skill). So there should be 5.76GB usable, but I only have 1.74GB usable. This is what is it when I only had the 2GB. The Bios says there is 6144GB in there. Windows says there 6.0GB in there also.
So what I have tried:
- Running Mem Tests (HP one which came with my laptop and Memtestx86)
- Taking out the ram and putting them in there sorts again
- Taking out the ram, running a pencil eraser over the connecters and then putting them back in
- Doing testing so Only 1 is in and try that in both slots for both sticks of ram
- Swapping the ram positions
- Making sure that Max ram is not selected in Msconfig
So basic System info you may want to know (Most of my profile info is there of my computer) Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit SP1 Installed Memory (Ram) (This is from the basic system info page) 6.00GB (1.74GB Usable). The odd thing is that it worked fine for a while. Today I went to school with the 5.76GB and I come back home 8 hours later, the computer has only been on lock for this time and there is only 1.76GB usable.
