My computer's memory was 2GB and i added 4GB more, but only 2GB is usable. I have tried many time take the Ram out and put it back but i still have the same problem.
I recently upgraded from Vista home premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit. My system now shows RAM 4GB installed (2.97GB usable) this never happened in my vista version.
I have searched numerous threads on this forum but and have found similar issues but none of the threads seem to have been resolved.
I am thinking to revert back to Vista if i cant make full use of my RAM.
I have a computer that is running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. It has 6 GB of RAM installed, but it says that 3.00 GB are usable. My understanding is that Ultimate 32 bit can handle 4 GB of RAM. What do I have setup in correctly?
I know you've probably seen dozens of threads like this, but here's an interesting twist:
The laptop it's on (the Compaq Presario V2000) only has 512MB of RAM, and is showing only 383 available. Nothing near the level of the OS restrictions. (Besides, it's 64-bit.) I've already tried the solution here, but the "maximum memory" box was unchecked.
My motherboard is the ASUS Maximus III Formula, using Intel Core I5 760. And I recently did a dual boot on my system. One copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my original hard drive, and a Windows 7 Home premium x64 bit on another hard drive ( Hitachi ) and after a month or two, I had to format that ( Hitachi ) hard drive as I needed it for extra storage and now I'm getting only 2 Gb usable RAM but I installed 4Gb.
i have corsair xms 2x2 4GB 9-9-9-24 1333mhz with phenom 965 and biostar890gxe..........for about 15days after aasembling the pc running windows7 x64 my pc showed ram installed 4gb 3.25 usable
My PC says it has 4GB of RAM installed but only 3.5GB are usable, I have windows 7 home premium X64.
CPU: Athlon II x3 Unlocked to Phenom II X4 @3Ghz. Motherboard: Asrock N68-VS3-UCC RAM: 4GB DDR3 generic brand. HDD: 1x 320GB SATA, 1x 250GB SATA and 1x 250GB IDE GPU: XFX ONE 5400 series PSUEM 500w PSU.
Windows recognized the full 4GB and the whole 4GB were usable but when I checked about 2 days ago it said that only 3.5GB were usable. I started to do a little research and I found out that my GPU might be using Hyper Memory so i tuned off my system, removed the GPU and when I went to see how much RAM was usable it said 4GB installed 3.25GB usable. So its not my GPU.
Today I noticed that my system is only using 3072mb of RAM, I have 4 GB in my system and they used to work pretty nice until now, before all 4 were usable, now Im missing 1. I thought this was because ram remap feature was diabled on the bios (BTW here's my board : Biostar G31 M7 TE). So I enabled it and rebooted my system. Turns out it's still the same... I tried also enabling the memory hole to 15-16 mb (the only setting appart from diables) same results. I think this is decreasing my PC's performance... edit: what seems to be doing this is the ''pci mmio allocation''
I have Win7 64bit with 6GB memory. The Windows System control panel agrees with that showing 6GB ram and nothing about a limitation. But today I was opening a lot of files and the program wouldn't let me open more files after Windows memory use reached 4GB. Task Manager showed 4GB used out of 6GB. I tried opening another file with a different program and my screen flickered and the program shut itself off, so it looks like the problem is with Windows and not the other programs. How do I get Windows to use all available memory not just 4GB out of 6GB?
Okay so i have a Quad core x6850 Intel CPU, EVGA 280GTX GPU CARD.
Now i installed window 7 x86 bit version ULTIMATE. And i have 6GB DDR3 RAM INSTALLED INTO MY geforce Nforce 790i motherboard. Now the problem is that in Windows 7 it shows "Installed Memory: 6.00GB (2.75 GB Useable)". But in Bios it shows me that 6gigs in installed.
Now does that mean it is WIN 7 that is just reading my DDR3 RAM WRONG? But i am still getting the full performance for all of my 6GB DDR 3 RAM? Since my bios is reading all of the 6GB RAM?
Also i tried doing what other forums indiated i should be doing like type config and check mark or uncheck mark MAX MEMORY. Tried doing that, but noting happened.
Now the only thats left and i am having confusion with is, some people are saying i should Enable Memory remapping in bios? I have a nforce 790i motherboard, and i can't find that exactly in my bios mode. Is there any other way to fix this problem?
I installed Windows 7 64 bit from on two partitions.
The first one, a fresh install, Computer Properties shows 4gb RAM, the same value (4096) is also showed in Task Manager.
The second one, I upgraded from Vista 64 bit, it shows 4gb RAM (2usable), the same (2048) is showed in Task Manager.
I heard the story about Memory Remap, my mainboard didn't have it. However, the first case, it automatically recognize 4gb RAM, I guess Windows7 manages everything. Is there anyway I 'turn on' the rest 2gb in the second case?
Earlier tonight I rebooted and noticed that it took an extremely long time to boot. Almost 10 minutes to get the desktop completely loaded. So I checked task manager > performance tab and it says I have only 256mb of RAM. So then I checked My Computer > Properties and noticed it said "Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (256 MB Usable)" I've had Windows 7 installed for a good 2 weeks now and never had a problem, until I rebooted tonight. I checked my BIOS and all my sticks show up. I DO NOT have a shared memory video card. Memory test checked out fine. I haven't installed any new hardware, nor touched the sticks at all. why Windows 7 started doing this?
I have 4GB of RAM installed in my computer (the stock RAM; I have changed no hardware since receiving the laptop), but Windows tells me on 1.75GB of it is usable. Things I've tried so far, to no avail, include. Going into msconfig and switching off "Maximum Memory", Enable Memory Remapping in Bios (Bios has no Memory Remapping option) Switching RAM Slots One RAM stick at a time (laptop would not start tried both sticks in both slots) Ran Microsoft memory analysis? Updated some drivers
What is the difference between virtual memory vs installed Ram? I have win7 pro , Gateway 5800 @ 3.20 GHZ , dual-core x64 system with GB ram installed. My sys specs says that I have 9GB of virtual memory available. My system seemed slow , so I checked the Memory alloted for my paging file and it said 512k! It recommended MB? So I set the Minimum at MB and the max at MB. It did not seem to make a major difference though. Should I reset it to below the 6GB total Ram or is that a separate issue? I use the computer mostly for video & web commenting but will be doing more offline gaming soon.
I decided to upgrade my computer and installed a new mb and processor. However with the new build the computer refuses to start up properly with more than 2Gb of memory installed. The machine runs fine with 1*2Gb of memory but as soon as I install a second stick I get a BSOD during windows startup.
Same thing happens if I install my graphics card. Memory sticks has been tested with memcheck86+ and individually they all work fine, in all slots. I can also run memcheck with 4Gb of memory installed without problems. BIOS is current as well as all drivers I can think of.

I just got Windows 7 Pro 64-bit a couple weeks ago and it's been terrific so far. However, there's one thing that has annoyed me quite a bit that I can't seem to figure out. When I look at the Resource Monitor, I'm told that I have 18+ GB of installed memory on my computer. This is obviously not correct, however, since I only have two 2GB sticks of DDR2 installed. Here are some pics showing the issue:I have no clue why Windows is saying that there's 14 GB of hardware reserved memory. Seems to be a faulty reading of some kind, and I'm wondering if there's any way to go about correcting this or finding out the root of the problem. If I can't get it fixed, it's not a big deal since my performance is terrific. Just something that bugs me a little and I'd like to know what's causing the incorrect reading
New Motherboard ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS, bios version 1302 windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, video ATI Radeon HD 5450. I have installed 8gb of memory and bios reports only 4gb, windows sees 8gb with 4gb usable. I have tried all the usual fixes, updated bios, swapped sticks(reseated) install 1 stick at a time to no avail.I can not seem to find any memory remapping switches in bios setup, but something is locking out 2nd 4gb.
I have windows 7 Ultimate installed on my dell 780 it is a 2 duo workstation 3.0ghz with 6gb install but only 2.96gb is being used how can I get my machine to recognize all memory installed.
For some odd reason, my new Windows 7 32 bit laptop is constantly using 40+ precent of it's installed RAM. I checked my computer's properties and found that Windows is only using 2.84 gigs of my computer's 4 gigs of ram. Is there any way I can force it to use 4 gigs? Or at least, force it to use more than my current amount? I have attached a screenshot of my computer's RAM specs.
I have an older desktop, Acer Aspire running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, it had 4gb ram installed (I did know that only 3gb could be used)yesterday I took one of the ram sticks out ( had 4 x 1gb) and put in a different computer. Since then it has started crawling along, I have noticed that it says 3gb ram 1 gb usable. is this something that I need to go into the bios for? I ran the memory diagnostic tool this morning but did not get to see a report.
I have quite a new ASUS laptop, which came with 64bit windows 7 and I took off and installed my copy of Windows 7 32bit (I didn't see the point in having 64bit on a laptop).
When I first installed the OS and everything Windows said I had 3.25GB ram usable or something like that which is normal but for some reason I now only have 2.92 usable and I don't know why >.< (this may have happened when SP1 was installed)
The specs are: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz 4GB DDR3 Ram Intel HD Graphics Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset 320GB 5400RPM HDD

I have 4g of ram. In control panel it is listed 4.00gb RAM(Only 2.00gb usable) I have 2x(2g) sticksMemory hole remapping is enabled. Max memory is unchecked.I have an M4A785-M motherboard.I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This problem started happening a couple weeks ago.
Okay, this is really weird. Previously, I had had a ordered a kit of 4GB ram with one defective stick. After installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with the good stick, I RMA'd the kit back to newegg. The exchange arrived today, and after installing the new kit of ram, windows only recognizes 3.26GB of it! Under the system information panel, it says:
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.26 useable)
despite me having a 64 bit OS.
Whats up with this? I Memtested the ram and it shows up as only 3255 MB in there also.
