Zone Alarm Pro Support Or Not?

Miss Zone Alarm
Mar 23, 2008I am running Vista Home Premium 64 and there is no 64 bit version of Zone Alarm so I am depending upon the Windows Firewall instead. It may be a safer product than Zone Alarm. I have no way to know. But I miss Zone Alarm because I could always see when something was initially trying to send data out of my computer. With Zone Alarm during or directly after installing an app I would get a pop up message from ZA asking me if I wanted to let a specific app go out through the fire wall. Maybe I have something set up wrong with the Windows Firewall but I don't recollect that I have seen this with the WF. When I go to the WF window it says that it is turned on.
Plus I am confused how to understand the Exceptions list. I don't see all the applications that I have installed on my computer that I would normally see in ZA. In fact I don't see most of the apps, including some that I know go out to do autochecking for updates. Plus when I look in the exceptions list I see that Skype is unchecked but Skype does work. So what does the check mean?
Is Zone Alarm Truly Compatible?
Jun 1, 2008after having the nasty surprise that my (supposedly) compatible security software isn't compatible with Vista, I've beena dvised here to download something like AVG free anti virus. can do that, but AVG doesn't have a firewall. Not totally sure I want to just rely on the windows firewall, so is Zone Alarm truly compatible (as they claim)?

Jun 25, 2008I did ask this question before, but was not provided with an clear reply. I had Zone Alarm Pro on my pc with Windows XP Home and it worked fine. I can not install it on my new pc despite asking for help from zone labs. They sent me two different exe files supposedly to work with Vista, but neither can be installed Does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix for it. After several e mail exchanges with the Zonelab tech, I am still no further. I even tried the trial version ZoneAlarm security suite without success. Could it have something to do with the Norton 360 security suit? I would not like to delete Norton with out knowing if that is for sure the problem.

The real problem is that I removed and deleted zone alarm a long time ago but it is still in the windows security settings, and I cannot remove it.

Sep 28, 2009Until recentlyI've been a Win98SE man and had Zone Alarm Free firewall installed. Never a problem in nearly 10 years. Although fairly comp literate I've never really "got to grips" with the workings of FWs. Recently bought a new computer and the OS is Windows Vista Home Premium---64 bit. If I choose to install Zone Alarm Free, (which I have currently), should I turn off the integrated Vista FW?
Is there a definitive answer? Further, ZA Free is currently installed and operational from "startup". I often find, when I investigate, that the Vista FW has turned itself "Off". Does this make sense? Lastly, regardless of which FW is on, my computer "fails" the "Shields Up!" "Ping Test". What can I do, if anything, to rectify this?
Zone Alarm Security Suite Running Vista 32bit
Nov 30, 2007Been having issues with my lap top recently so on the advice of a bod on here I decided to get a better fire wall than Zone Alarm free. I am now using the free trial version of Zone Alarm Security Suite and will buy it if it is any good. I ran a virus and spyware scan and the virus scan came back with nothing and the spyware had 3 items. I then ran my free version of adaware and this found 74 items!! Is it best to keep using both these products together, or should I just find something better than ZA? At a loss as to what is the best thing to use. Running Vista 32 bit.

Jul 18, 2008When online in IE, bottom toolbar says Internet protected mode OFF, when I double click on that, it opens internet properties, where there is already a ck mark in the box that says ENABLE PROTECTION MODE (REQUIRES A RESTART OF IE), but I restart IE, still unprotected message. OK, then try rebooting pc...darn, still unprotected. Ok, uncheck the box, click apply, then ok, restart pc, then go into internet properties and ck the box all over again...and on and on and on... So, how exactly is this SUPPOSED to work ?

When I try to copy files from my NAS (Synology DS207+) to my hard drive over the network, this is what I have to answer to first:
I've tried all the suggested solutions by changing the intranet settings in internet options, done some registry hacks, but I can't get rid of this dialogue.
I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 X64 and I'm beginning to believe that the issue has come after SP1.

May 31, 2008Purchased a notebook yesterday that has Vista Home Premium pre-installed
1. Was not able get the time zone value to stick during setup, Had to reset after set up.
2. I successfully connected to the internet via dial-up, but I then changed the settings to not automatically dial. Now I cannot find the equivalent of "Network and dial-up connections". I want to create a shortcut on the desktop or a toolbar for each connection. How does one do this?
3. I have 2 desktop.ini icons on the desktop. Likely, because I told Vista to not hide any files.
4. How does find the equivalent of Windows Explorer?
5. Ditto for My Documents and My Computer.
Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 8, "twilight Zone"
Feb 6, 2009Of all the programs I use in Vista, Adobe Acrobat Pro is the one that performs the worst. Frequently while editing a file the application window goes into the "twilight zone" with the entire appliction window becoming fuzzy and unresponsive sometimes for as long as 30 seconds. It does not completely hang, and eventually responds. This happens on at least 3 different machines. All have Quad Cores and with 4GB of memory and are otherwise very responsive machines. Is there an explantion for why Acrobat does this in Vista?

GTX 280 But No 3D Support
Jul 8, 2008I have just built a new computer using Vista Ultimate x64 and a single GTX 280 on a 790i motherboard. I play Everquest a lot and find that when I try to load it I get a message that no 3D devices found. Going into dxdiag I discover that there are no DirectX features available. I am using nVidia driver 7741. I had to also download directx 9 to run the game. What can I do to get 3D support? My device manager recognizes my card. I'm lost here.

No 64 Bit Upgrade Support
Jun 13, 2009I upgraded to 64 bit vista home premium about 3 weeks ago. When I entered the id for email support it said the product had expired so I have to pay $59.00 for support. I think that's a ripoff. My 32 bit disk is working just fine. The 64 bit is a new system and less than 90 days old.
Have had access denied error since creating the 64 bit when trying to set a restore point. I've tried everything I can find on the web including all Microsoft news groups. The 32 bit and 64 bit disks are pretty much Identical in content, programs. I suppose I can at least return the 64 bit update disk for $10.00 refund?
Port Does Not Support USB 2.
Oct 9, 2009Pretty strange that I couldn't find one google result about WHERE a USB 2.0 port is, everything is "how do I know I have USB 2.0" and not actually where they are on the computer. Some may say well, just plug in a USB 2.0 usb and see what happens.
However my USB Drive has ALWAYS been saying I'm plugging it in in a port that does not support USB 2.0. I've done this at my college and the same bs occurs. This does not occur for any of my USB drives, not even my 16G one. Should also mention that whenever I try to access the USB drive, it says "Drive E not formatted, would you like to format it now?" Obviously I click no. This by the way has nothing to do with my recent virus issues. This particular USB drive has been like this for years now.-

Jan 2, 2009Im on an HP530 with Vista Home 32bit. I wanted to see some videos on my TV (Sony Trinitron XBR) which is "kinda" old and does not sport a VGA in connection. I bought a VGA to RCA cable and got it today so I connected the male VGA to the computer and the RCA to the TV and the laptop is not recognizing anything. Am I missing something? The VGA-RCA cable ALSO has a SVideo female and also tried that one. I already clicked the windows key+x to add it manually thru the "mobility" settings.
64bit And IE7 Can Not Log XFX Support
Jul 3, 2008I just did a clean install of Vista 64 Home Premium and have run into a strange problem. I cannot log in to the XFX Support website using either 32 or 64 bit IE7 on the Vista machine. I can log in fine using an XP machine. Further when I tried to fill in the form to d/l the office 2007 trial version so I could import my mail folder from my backup disk into Vista Mail the form would reset everytime I selected the US as my country (was my only option, I assume since I had already input my state). In Firefox the form would appear to reload when I chose US but would keep everything I'd typed in as well as saving that I chose US. IE7 just wiped out all the text boxes and reset the country to choose country.
Needless to say since it blanked the form every time I couldn't get the trial initially. I've somewhat bypassed the problem by installing and using Firefox 3 which is not having either of these problems. The install was a clean install with nothing more than Vista, drivers and updates installed. P.S. I tried the IE7 group but they seemed to think I should post in the Vista groups

Mar 23, 2008So I paid for a retail version of Vista Ultimate Upgrade the day it came out, upgrading from XP PRO. Everything was fine. One day my Vista install starting giving me BSOD constantly and loss of audio so I finally after much advice did a re-install of Vista, clean this time. After hours and hours of work, reinstalling all of my programs and customizing everything again, it came time to re-activate windows. I went ahead and said activate online.....no dice, it says my key is already in use. I read the forums here and everyone said go activate over the phone....again no dice, two phone calls to Indian spekaing reps and they could not get me activated saying I would have to call MS Support. I called MS Support and they rudely said I am out of luck, I didn't re-install XP first before I fixed my Vista install...my key is good but only if I upgraded, which I did on the initial install by the way....I don't even have my XP disk anymore.......

Mar 26, 2008Just this message to say that we don't find qualified people at Microsoft in Switzerland and in France Support to answer to the following question: Which product is qualified to install Multi-language pack? We don't find any information saying there many kind of software of Vista Ultimate release.
We just have the windows vista ultimate with sp1 included. And the problem that is the second product we bought and we can't return. Swiss support don't answer and is unpolite and do close the phone. France support can't do commercial activities in Switzerland.
Does Not Support Coupon Printing Using Set Up
May 2, 2008I have a Dell Inspiron 531 computer with Vista Home. My printer is an Epson Stylus C86. It prints everything that I send it, except coupons. The coupon page says my coupons are printing, but they don't. I get the following statement when I tried to reload the coupon printing software.
"Unfortunately our site does not support coupon printing using your current computer set up. Coupon Printing for Windows. Coupon printing is currently supported on Windows Operating Systems Vista, XP, and 2000 when used with Internet Explorer 6+, FireFox 1+ Netscape 8+, and most MSN and AOL browsers."
