The problem is that we seem to have mail appear in the inbox and then disappear. Is it possible this is an issue with the anti-virus mail scan.

After excessive testing & diagnosing, I've concluded that the following causes my "network connections" to be deleted, and I get a Code-19 (corrupted/missing driver) for my Network Adapters happens if I use WINDOWS help! Here is what happens: For one reason or another, I lose connectivity. I have a fickle ISP and I'm always resetting my cable modem, etc.
1.) I double-click the tray icon for "network," then go to Network & Sharing Center.
2.) Under Network (my actual connection,) I click "view status," then click "Properties."
3.) A "Diagnose" button is available. As soon as I push it, I'm usually given several options: Reset the adapter, Get new IP settings, etc..............

I am trying to help with windows Vista basic IE 8 (had IE7) with problem downloading files which then just do not get saved to disk where it should be (or anywhere for that matter). The user account is has administrator privilages but it seems as if for downloads they do not or at least it acts that way. It is not even running the programs when told to in the download choices. It goes through the normal appearance of downloading and saving the file from the temp folder but then poof is not saved to disk at designated store point.
I have used a work around for now by using the Administrator account and can download through that but do not want to expose that account for long. Is there some permission or registry fix for this problem. I have checked all IE settings in control panel but they are all good for downloads. I did install IE 8 to ssee if that would fix problem but still the same.

Am using Windows Mail v6 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop and after I have sent a couple of email messages and then want to move the sent messages to relevant folders, my personal folders under the inbox together with the standard mail folders (i.e. outbox etc) have disappeared. I close Windows Mail and open again and the relevant folders still do not appear. Only once I have restarted my pc will the folders then appear. It is most frustrating. I am running the latest home version of AVG Anti Virus.

I been having this problem with my Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Basically it has been happening over the past 2-3 days. What the problem is that when I start up my laptop it boots up and loads everything on start-up then about 10 - 15 seconds after my desktop icons disappear. I have googled the problem and read some solutions but none have worked.
I have tried to go into regedit and make sure the shell was set to explorer.exe, ran scans with Webroot Anti-virus with Anti-spyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, also SuperAnti-Spyware. I ran these both in regular Windows start up and in safe mode. Also when I go to processes I will end the explorer process and then create a new task "explorer.exe" it appears with the desktop than again 10 - 15 seconds it disappears. My computer is new only about two weeks old now.

When I power on my ASUS laptop, the desk top background changes, the task bar settings are reset to automatically hide, and the desk top icons disappear. I can go in and change the taskbar setting and change the background back, and I right click on the desktop to remove and then reset the check mark the "Show Desktop Icons" under the view option and I can continue along my merry way. But when I shut down and power back on, everything disappears again.

I deleted some files off my desktop. The data was deleted, but the icons are still there. They now contain "0 bytes". I've tried deleting them, and I get an error message saying that the file cannot be found. I've tried refreshing my desktop. I've tried restarting. I've tried deleting in safe mode. I can't rename them, and I can't move them, because they "can't be found."

I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 with all recent updates on an Acer 5420 laptop. However, while using Explorer to look at folders with jpg, bmp, and other image files; I see the thumbnails quickly generated only to have them disappear and be replaced with a generic icon for the file type. Video files (wmv, mpg, etc.) have "persistent" thumbnails. After searching for possible solutions I have applied, or confirmed, the appropriate options for Explorer -- uncheck the Show icons, never thumbnail option, etc. Additionally, the system performace is set to "best appearance" (It has also been set to about every other possiblity as well). Various registry modifications have been applied -- with no resolution. The system has been restarted after each change in configuration. Refresh will "flash" the thumbnails for a split second before returning to the generic icons.
This is driving me crazy, not to mention wasted a couple days of productive time. Since the thumbnail view is so critical to my daily work, I purchased a third party file utility (PowerDesk) whose thumbnail functions are flawless. I would stay wit this solution except for the fact that my workplace doesn't want to purchase license for multiple copies of PowerDesk, when Explorer should be more than adequate. Why won't Vista's explorer perform as it should? (Other than, "you should have stuck with XP!" I would have loved to have stayed with XP, but it wasn't my decision to migrate -- downgrade IMHO -- to Vista.)

Is it normal for my System Restore points to disappear with my dual-boot setup? I have Vista on my first drive (in a master SATA socket) and XP on my second drive (in slave SATA socket), with Acronis OS Selector in Vista to switch between operating systems. [Vista was the first OS I installed, and with the first drive disconnected I installed XP on the second drive.] Whenever I activate XP, the next time I go back to Vista, the restore points I had in Vista beforehand disappear. From there on, changes and new installations bring new restore points, but the next time I visit XP, my Vista restore points from that point disappear as well. Can I expect this with any dual-boot setup, or, if I should decide to reinstall everything should I install XP on my second drive first, while my first drive is still plugged in? Or is there another solution I haven't found yet?

Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook running Vista Home Premium. Automatic Updates is "on". I suspect this is not strictly a Vista problem, but the user base may know of a solution. I also suspect the problem is with a Dell-specific service or application but that may be supported by underlying Vista services. I find references to a similar service for HP notebooks. When I got my computer about 6 weeks ago, a transparent popup would appear briefly and then disappear when the caps lock key was toggled. It indicated the new state of the key and an icon was also placed in the Notification Area when the state was "locked". A similar action took place if I toggled the "radio" button (F2) and a battery information window appeared it the "battery" key (F3) was pressed.
That worked for a week or so, then stopped working. I did many searches on The Internet and in the Dell Community Forums for a solution. No joy. Then one day, it mysteriously started working again. It worked for 3 days which spanned several times when the computer went into standby and when it went into hibernation each evening. A series of security updates came down from Microsoft which required reboot. The popups went away and in many more hours of research, I have been unable to find a solution....

I recently purchased as laptop and had a professional, who I can no longer reach, as he is on the other side of the country, transfer my favorites list from old to new computer. Now, when I launch IE 7 (?) it tells me that my favorites are in a path that is not available. I also have mozilla Firefox and its Bookmarks are working fine. How can I find and/or change or re-link my IE favorites file. When I try to add new links to my favorites with IE they disappear and become inaccessible too. How can I create a proper path to put my favorites in.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Vista Home Premium x64 SP2.It has an internal card reader,a TEAC CA-200,that connects internally to the front USB connector on the motherboard. When the reader works,it shows up at four drive letters in Windows Explorer. The problem is that it doesn't work. When I first boot the PC the drives show up. After plugging in and ejecting a memory card a few times, all the drive letters go away and when I try plugging in a memory card it occasionally gives me a USB Error message that talks about a missing driver. It lists six USB ports with one listed as unknown - driver missing. If I open the case and unplug and re-plug the reader cable, the drives are all found again. Then in short order they'll disappear again.I've worked with Dell tech support and they've replaced the reader and its cable with no improvement.I've updated the chipset drivers with no improvement.Dell's last suggestion was to reinstall Windows from scratch. Doing a Google search for "dell card reader not recognized"finds a LOT of reports of this problem and I've already tried the suggested fixes. Unless you have the solution,I can see only two options going forward.Pretend the reader isn't there and get an external card reader,or get an internal card reader that uses a standard USB cable to plug into an available port on an added USB card.

I had my Snipping tool disappear from start/programs list AND short cut from quick links. An index search tool could not find it either. The popular solution of enabling from the 'add/remove programs windows function' in control panel did not help. Everyone and there brother told me this would solve my problem. I still could not locate the SnippingTool.exe file. I went to c:/windows/systems32/ and found SnippingTool.exe in the system32 folder and right click to create a desktop icon shortcut. bing...back in action. I still have no idea why my shortcuts and programs list from start menu would have disappeared, but at least if this happens again, I'll know what to do.

I have a problem with two things: Installing the fingerprint reader(have re-installed vista, have worked before) don't work. The innstall just disappeares and nothing happens after that. And the dvd station opens all the time, without anyone touching the computer. It happened after I reinstalled vista, have reinstalled before, but didn't happen then. It still reads cd/dvd's, but opens itself all the time.
