I am running SP1 64-bit. I am an experienced Windows user and Vista has been working fine for >1 year. In the last couple of weeks I suddenly lost the ability to paste. If I cut or copy a string (browser, notepad, whatever) and try to paste it (CTRL+V) all that comes out is a single blank space! This seems like a very basic problem but I searched the forum and could not find a similar issue.

(it starts booting and then it stops when GoBack starts running, GoBack errors: Internal error - press any key to reboot) So I can't boot Windows to unistall this program. (Now I figured out it's not compatible to Vista...)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having a prob getting my printer to work on the remote laptop of a 2 station home net. Printer is HP 8050 Photosmart,I have a HP 6230n desktop with a lynksys wireless router installed on the desktop,running Vista Home Prem.The laptop(remote comp has Vista Home basic.On both mach I have done the foll-In net and sharing center turned on-Net discovery,file sharing,Public folder sharing and on the desktop turned on printer sharing.On the laptop I cant install the pri nter When I do try to install printer I am getting a print spooler error-print spooler in services shows that it is running(on the desktop have restarted both machines and the printer to no avail.This did work last week but had a hard drive failure and HP sent me a new one to install.Thus I am trying to reconfigure the whole desktop again.The network name is the same on both comp-in view computer and devices both mach show with the router.
I can print from the desktop and have downloaded the proper drivers to the PC.
Is MS selling Vista Business anymore? I go on the Windows Catalog website
and I can't find it being offered.
I have a perfectly functioning Win XP SP3 laptop. I've heard both sides of
the upgrade issue.
1. Where can I buy Windows Vista Business? I don't want to get it from some
unreputable vendor. Will the version I buy contain the latest SP's?
2. My XP was OEM, does that cause major issues when upgrading to Vista?
3. I ran the Vista upgrade advisor and it states my laptop will handle Vista
if a do a few tasks first. Are the other resources regarding upgrading to
Vista on the web?
If I try to right click and do "new->shortcut" on either desktop or in explorer, nothing happens at all and I do not know why.
Posts on other forums suggest there is something wrong with how vista works with .lnk attribute but I cant make any sense of it. And I will not try out the registry hack that is suggested as I do not know what it does.
My only hope atm is if any of you are familiar with the very same issue and know a way to correct this behaviour.
My computer: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 AMD 64bit. I am aware of the two folder for program files, but this scrn shot(attachment) will explain it more.. My "Program Files (x86)" folder is not showing up in my C drive list, it is still there, but not appearing any ideas? I think other folders are not showing as well..

Windows Live mail is trying to connect.... constantly. After 60 seconds a little window appears with: The server SMTP did't react for 60 seconds. Do you want to wait for teh server another 60 seconds?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had successfully installed win xp pro on my pre-installed vista home computer.
When I used to boot up, I had the option of selecting one of those 2 OS. I begun having problems with xp pro so I "repaired" it using my xp pro cd. Now, I can't boot into either OS. Please help. I have tinkered with the MBR, FIXMBR, FIXBOOt commands but can't get anything to work. All I get when I boot up is the selection of Keyboards,
language and then I get a menu of options such as Repair startup, Memory diagnostics, Recovery (to factory settings) etc., I don't have vista dvd since it came pre-installed on my computer.
I do have xp but am afraid of re-installing xp pro since I have documents on borh drives (each drive contains its own operating system).
For example, my c drive contains vista, (d is recovery on the same hard drive) and xp pro is on a separate physical drive.
I can see that both drives have windows on them but I am unable to boot. I have managed to get vistaboot pro but can't seem to run it.
I can't get xp to run nor can I get vista to run.
Clicking on the icon does not start the application anymore, I think this may be the case after insalling Visat SP1 but my timing could be off.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI did have my operating system set up on "Classic" setting to resemble Windows XP and when it was set that way anytime I slid the memory card from my camera in it would pop up the pictures in a new folder in my already existing software I store pictures in. All I needed to do from there were to highlight and drag them into another folder and delete the pictures out of the folder they popped up in...thus emptying the memory card from my camera. Since I have switched the look back to Vista appearance (Vista Home Premium) now I have to go thru Start, Computer, and then click on the drive to open the pictures on the memory card. I also have to manually open my picture editing software manually and drag the pics from the temp folder to my regularly used software to move the pictures. What changed just by changing the appearance of the operating system and how do I get it back without changing the whole appearance back to the "classic" look?

I have this remote control,I just re-installed VIsta Ultimate, and now this remote control is not working anymore.. it was working fine before I did the re-install..it comes w/no driver, so short of disconnecting and connecting the transmitter again to a USB port not sure what more I can do.. it used to work fine not just with Windows Media Center but also with Rhapsody and other stuff, now it does not work at all... I just put new batteries in it... when I press a button on the remote the green light on the remote goes on and the red light on the transmitter also goes on.. so it's definitely not a battery problem..

I have been using remote desktop to have access to our company server. I
work away from the office but access letters and other information from our
server. I usually copy and paste letters from remote desktop into my email
(been doing it for last 2 years) and send information to my clients. NOW no
go! I am terribly frustrated that I can't do this anymore as it has
extremely added time on to a schedule that can't afford to spend a lot of
time on this. Please ...... I need a fix for this problem before I huck my
computer out the window! PS this started last week. Months after I had
installed Windows Live (which I don't use anyway).
I have the same problem from today 22/04 of nt being able to paste into emails. Is there some update that has triggered this for either Vista or Windows Mail? Most inconvenient.

I have never been able to copy and paste and address or anything because: when I select something I want to copy, then I click edit, or copy, or I click where I want to paste it, or I click anything else; it unselects what I have selected. So, if something is not selected you can't do anything with it, but if you click what you want to do with it- it is no longer selected??

When I try, the Copy function is present but when I attempt to paste to another location on the same computer so that I can eventually email the font as an attachment, the Paste function is grayed out. Tried it on a friend's computer and her situation is the same. Her computer is also Vista 64 bit. On my computer, I am the Administrator and sole user.

When I right click to past, I get a message "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working and Must Restart" at which point my browser shuts and reopens" Does anyone know how to fix this?

The SimpleOCR scan had no provision to send it, so I saved it to Desktop, and it saved in Open Office (I have MS Works and Open Office but I don't know why it saved to Open Office since I usually Works for word processing). The saved scan I rightclicked Copy. When I tried to Paste in Hotmail email, I clicked the dark Paste but it did not paste. When I copied and tried to paste the scan to a Works word processing page, the Paste option was grey and I couldn't paste it there either. How can I copy and paste a Simple OCR scan?

With the older outlook product I was always able to cut and paste the column into the TO field and send mass emailings. Now that I am using winmail I get an error when I try to do this: CHECK NAMES: no matches found ........I have a clunky work around-I have added semicolins to each email address in the excel sheet but this of course is not a useful permanent fix. Can someone tell me how to turn off the "check names" feature or if this is not possible, how winmail can be used with excel to send mass mailings.

I've just done a system restore to before I downloaded Windows Live Mail and "hey presto" I can cut and paste into emails again. Perhaps it's unwise to download Live Mail - at least till they sort the program out!
View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows Explorer had been working fine but now it won't (1) resize to full screen, (2) paste any file anywhere or allow me to drag and drop files. This latter one also won't work on my desktop. What gives? Can I uninstall Windows Explorer and reinstall? Will the 'recovery disks' that came with the computer allow this to happen?
Also, I have a file I want to inspect, a CBS.log file, and it says I need the administrator permission to do this. How do I obtain this. I'm no dummy when it comes to computers but I cannot figure this one out on Vista.
I can not move, copy and paste OR cut and past files from folder to folder anywhere (desktop -> folder on desktop, my docs -> random folder, etc).
I am the sole user of this machine and my account is in the administrators group. I have tried taking ownership of the files and folders and it still does not work.

I an running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit SP1 and have not installed any new applications that would cause this type of issue.
I am running Vista Home, and when i go to copy music file from my windows media player, to say a sd card (have checked the card, seems fine), it will copy some files, but say 6Gb of music will take around 24 hrs. yup thats what i said, 24 hrs and sometimes it will give me an error code: 0x80070570. Does anyone know why this is doing it? I have tried to go into the F8 Feature, on startup, but i do not have the restore option.
