I partitioned my HD and had vista and XP on it. All my music and everything was on my xp partition, and when i tried to access them from vista it wouldnt let me because of permission rights. I enabled vista to read them by enabling me as an admin under the security tab. After than it was fine. Then after getting pretty frustrated with vista I just deleted the partition in XP. Thinking everthing would be fine, I booted my comp. and it still wants to boot to vista, but theres nothing there. I want it to just go straight to XP. And also, since I made it to where I could read my files in vista, I cant read My Documents in XP, it says I dont have the right to read it, but I am the one and only admin on XP. .
i had cleaned up my hibernation option unfortunately in disk cleanup thinking that i is using 3 GB of my C drive and from then im not having the option HIBERNATION when i wanna keep my notebook shut.

I just purchased a HP tx2000 Table PC with Vista Ultimate 64-Bit. However, I got a Palm Treo 680 that only works with 32-Bit. I need to find a way to change my operating system down to 32-Bit.
why did i install Vista anyway? So stable, so fast, so fast, so..... fast. I have XP installed with SP3 and everything runs so well, my CPU runs so cooler for some reason, all my games, even Crysis run so better! AND, what? Only 200mb of ram is used right now instead of almost 1gb? x64, Directx10, i wont miss you, damn ressources pigs! was good to read on this forum when i had troubles with Vista, but now i wont have to, since XP is perfect.
Is it possible to make an image backup with this operating system?
Also if a file backup completes successfully and is backed up on a network drive will I be able to restore from a new install of window vista premium on the same laptop that was backed up to the network drive? Is there a better way using vista premium? I have Norton Ghost 12.0 on my desktop but not on the laptop with vista premium. Don't what to have to buy a license for laptop if there is another way to make sure in case of a failure of the operating system that I could recover by an full backup or image ? I do some beta testing and do not want to spend hours re-loading software.
I turned it off to install a program because it required the UAC to be off, not I try and turn it on by going Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off > Continue > then ticking the box and pressing OK. I pressed Turn User Account Control on or off > Continue and find that it is not ticked and UAC is NOT on. I keep ticking the box and going OK but it just doesn't turn on.
I getting a notification on the bottom bar right hand side saying backup failure. When i click on this, "Backup status & configuration" window appears, which says
The Backup did not complete succesfully
CATASTROPHIC FAILURE (0x8000FFFF).
So then if i try and do a a back up from control panel. a green bar appears and then go's red completely.
Finaly i get the same message on the bottom right hand side.
Due to an Office Enterprise issue that can only be resolved with a clean re-install of Vista on an ACER computer rather than re-installing the ACER factory load I have bought a Full version of VISTA Home Preimum so that I can do a CLEAN install. I have 3 partitions on my HD C, D & hidden, the hidden contains the factory load. My plan is to run a full back up to D as well as copies of my files. I will also make copies of my files off computer. I do have the ACER recovery disks but I hope to never have to use them. When I am all backed up I would like to format C, get rid of the hidden partition, keep D, put the VISTA DVD into the drive and do a clean install of VISTA on C. I could be wrong but I think that it would be best to format before putting the VISTA disk into the drive so there is no confusion between product keys etc. this is not an upgrade it is the same version that ACER supplied.
Maybe this is a dumb question, I don't know. I reformat my computer about twice a year to keep things ship shape and one of the most annoying things about it is getting back all the windows / microsoft updates. Is it possible to back up all the updates you have on your computer to speed things up?
Also, if I have Vista SP1 as my install disk, and have SP2 saved to a disk can I just go ahead and put SP2 on right away or do you have to get all the little in between updates that came out before SP2?
Currently I backup my entire C directory and the D recovery to a Clickfree 320g external drive. Is this the best approach? I am assuming that in taking that approach the OS is also backed up and given the worst case that I must reinstall the OS I can get back to pre-event status given it's all backed up. Anyway what is the best approach to" Back-up"?
I have tried three methods to uninstall my 360 day trial of Vista Ultimate and go back to XP operating system- I am desperate. I have tried three methods from Windows support centre with no results and I want to stop this system. I am desperate
Installed I E 8 and all looks very nice. However certain things are now not working properly. The main one is Facebook. Is this coincidence or are other people having a similar problem ?. Windows Media Player is also going a bit haywire by not playing random selections . Have not had any problems before so it looks like the Beta I E 8 is not compatible with vbista at this moment. Can anybody tell me how to uninstall I E8 and go back to 7.
when I have Vista go into "Sleep" I am un-able to wake it back up. I have tried everything from moving the mouse to hitting just about every button. In the end I simply have to restart the computer. Right now I use my laptop a lot and sleep comes in handy for me. I have a 1.7 CPU, 2 GB RAM on the 32-Bit OS.
My second problem deals with the row of HP QuickPlay buttons that came stock with my dv2000 series HP Laptop. The buttons themselves work but I no longer get any kind of notification of the action. For instance when I hit the mute button it no longer turns red. I have tried updating the driver and that did not work. Any thoughts? One last thing. In my opinion the Vista "sound", "battery" and "Wireless Network" buttons on the task bar look like shit. Does any one know how to replace them?
recently i needed to use cmd for something ,and when i typed cmd into run it said cmd was missing so i went into my system32 folder and saw that it was deleted somehow ,so im asking is there a way to reset it so it appears again or how would i be able to get it back ,ive looked every where for an answer to this but never found andy answers or help ,i contacted microsoft about a month ago and yesterday i got an email from them just saying to search their FAQ ,but i looked through the whole thing and found nothing.
i go to this branch: hklm/system/currentcontrolset/control/session manager/memory management and changed the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0 but sometimes after several times of reboot, i got the value back to 1 unauthorized.
i was just about to think of backing up my files to save everything in case of some disaster so i inserted a blank disk then i was wondering how big the back up files would be on a disk i have a 584GB hard drive with about 116 GB used could you roughly guess how big the back up file would be? because if i know , i will know how much CD-RW's i will need for this.

I haven't gotten a reply back on the lost messages that I posted, but some of the important ones are still here in OE. So I would like to come back to my OE. I've had it with Vista.
How can I do an export from Vista's Windows Mail and then import them back into Outlook Express ? I saw PA Bears note about doing a drag and drop of ".eml files but how do they convert to the .dbx format for OE ?
Then upgraded the OS to Windows Vista Home Basic by purchasing the full upgrade of Windows Vista Home Basic with a new COA. Now, the computer loads very slow and they want it back to XP. If ever I uninstall Vista on that computer, and re-install Windows XP can I use the old COA of the computer on that PC?; and Will I be able to use the Vista COA on another PC?

A friend of mine asked me if he can upgrade from XP to Vista. I advised him to run the Vista upgrade advisor which he did and got an OK. He proceeded to upgrade. After a few days, I got a call from him. In a disgruntled voice he explained to me how the system slowed down, he ran into various problems, locking up, etc. and at the end of the conversation he made this plea - "I WANT MY XP BACK!" Can I run restore doing the following:
1) Use system restore or 2) Reinstall XP from his original CD
now i know there is an automatic way of backing up files and folders using windows vista but i was wondering if there was a way of automatically backing up my complete system. now i've tried using Acronis True Image for this but i'm afraid that i won't be able to restore if my boot drive gets corrupt or i don't have an OS to installed Acronis to and load the back up image.
so I have a vista partition about 122 gigs more or less and a linux partition which is 30 gigs more or less...I want to merge the linux partition with vista without losing anything on my vista partition. How would I go about doing so? I know I have to format the linux partition thats fine but I do not want to format the vista partition... Or if possible can I give my linux partition 30 more Gigabytes then format it and install another os on it? Again I do not want to format my vista partition.
Should I move back to Vista Ultimate from Windows 7? I like em both, but can't decided which one to use. Windows 7 does almost everything I want except play a few games, which Vista does. The only problem with both Vista Ultimate and Win7 is that neither likes my onboard surround sound, which Linux detected and had it worked perfectly. I've probably formatted and reformatted this drive over 50 times since I got it in December and I still can't figure out what I want on it. I did tri-boot at one point, but it just got to un-organized I had to stop it.
I Installled Vista Ultimate in my laptop now i got activate in 30 days. actually i have VISTA Businees key. i want revart back to VISTA BUSINESS without reinstall, is there any way to back the vista business?.
