Upgrade, Reset Loop, Rollback To The Original Settings
May 2, 2009
I have Windows Vista Basic and have been trying to use an OEM anytime-upgrade to Premium edition. I did the online check and found my PC was compatable. Every time I try to upgrade, everything goes well until the very end. At that point my PC goes into a reset loop. It resets, a blue screen states that netio.sys has some sort of problem (but is too quick for me to note any of it down - useful!), then I get the option of loading MS Vista or go back to the original version. IF I chose Vista the PC eventually resets and I start this little game again!
The only info I have managed to note down from the blue screen is: nsiproxy.sys or netio.sys and something about the memory dump (which I can't access - I have tried!) Stop 0x0000BE (some leters and numbers in brackets, this is up for seconds so can't note down!) I've tried to stop the PC resetting via the control panel. Once in the reset loop I can't do anything except Rollback to the original settings. If I try to go to safe mode I'm told I need to reset so as windows can complete the installation.

I accidentally deleted the Mail icon from the Start Menu (Vista Ultimate x32) and a ballon came up with the steps to restore this which instantly disappeared. I run Office 2007 with Outlook as the default mail client. I did manage to create the shortcut for Outlook 2007 and drop it on the Start Menu and it works. However, on right click it does not give the three options (E-Mail Accounts; Data Files; Show Profiles) that was part of the standard options. I am able to access these options from the Control Panel (Mail) but would prefer to restore the Start Menu. I did re-install Office suite but it did not change. Is there a way to restore this back?

My ageing Thinkpad with XP Pro died so I've decided to build a new custom desktop from scratch. Can I install Vista Ultimate upgrade directly without having to install XP first? I would like to have a clean install of Vista, not an upgrade. Also since XP Pro license was activated on the Thinkpad, do I need to call MS and get another activation key??

I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?

I loaded Vista x64 on my machine as an upgrade. Had everything loaded perfectly, etc... I tried installing Windows 7 Beta. After it was installed I realized that not only are there not enough drivers available, but I stalled it on top of vista instead of it's own partition (colossal screw up). I also realized I couldn't rollback the installation. I didn't feel like re-installing XP and vista wasn't letting me reinstall. So I came up with the brilliant idea of installing it clean without any key code. Now how do I activate this or reinstall vista and keep all my programs, files, etc... (ie. not spend countless hours reinstalling everything I have)?

I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

I was trying to give myself permission to the file C:UsersTomLocal Settings. Now, no matter what I hit I keep getting the attached error messages and there is no exit. Nothing happens when I hit edit, so I can't change anything back. Nothing happens when I hit cancel. So, my only option is to hit ok, but this gives me the attached error messages.
Should I use task manager to end the task? What are the dangers of "an inconsistent state" as displayed in the last error screen? Is there a utility I can use to set the ownership and permissions back to there original status?

I was trying to get my sister's computer running. It is the worst case I have ever seen. It was giving me pop-ups trying to open control panel. It will not let me run Spybot, Malwarbytes anti malware. Folder options are gone from control panel, among other things. I tried a to run these programs. Went into safe mode.....would not let me run them there. I downloaded CCleaner in safe mode and ran the cleaner.(not registry cleaner) Now it's stuck in a reboot loop. What can I do to get it back to at least booting? Never seen this before. This is XP media center edition When I first got there it was popping up "my documents" from a user who didn't even use the computer about every 5 minutes.

My laptop, Toshiba model M305D, has been down about 6 days. I went to microsoft technical, put in a request but got no reply. This is the first problem I've had since buying the laptop new August, 2008. It has an AMD 64 bit processor and runs Vista home premium 64 bit. It has been kept up-to-date with windows update.
THE PROBLEM: The last time it was receiving updates it became stuck in a loop. It was processing update stage 3 of 3 at the 96% complete point when it restarted the computer to complete installation. Only, it keeps restarting and going through this update install process. It does this over and over.
I used the F8 on startup method to get to a help screen hoping to get into the safe mode. I got to the help screen.
The computer will not go into the "safe mode" using any of the choices presented on this screen, but instead goes right back to update screens described above when one of the choices is selected. I had hoped to get access to restore but could not.
How can I get past this to get back up and running?

I have created a Vista Enterprise x86 image several times and tried tosysprep it. I used the 'sysprep /oobe /generalize' command. When thecomputer boots after I have syspreped it I get a black screen that says'Setting up your computer' or somthing similar. It then displays thevista background and says 'Please wait while Windows continues settingup your computer'. The machine then reboots and the green loading bar shows for a second and reboots. The machine is then stuck in a reboot loop. Not even safe mode or Last known good config will let the machineboot.lso I had several days of pain trying to get the vista to sysprep at all. My vLite SP! slipstreamed disc didn't allow syspreping and erroredout. I had to install vista and manually install the SP1.

I have already posted to the "Help" boards Toshiba sends their customers to for
assistance, but feel there will more than likely be a faster reply (let alone a reply period) related directly to my need. Here is the situation: Am writing concerning my Toshiba laptop, Satellite A135-S4527, currently running with Vista Home Premium. Have had previous short bouts with blue screen errors, but could always find the fix quickly and get back to normal. Not this time, can't even get to Windows for any length of time beyond (literally) seconds before it repeats the cycle of "Did not shut down correctly ... choose a mode" ad infinitum like some horrible computer version of "Groundhog's Day."
I was in the midst of finishing the installation of the latest Vista update, and had also been installing "Alcohol 120" when the blue screen appeared with the following message [thank heavens for digital cameras since this flashes and is gone in a flash]: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:........

I dont know which of the folliwing the problem is. I am running Vista 64Bit OS with Corsair memory at 4GB - all works well. But regardless of the memory, when I install an additional two modules to upgrade the computer to 8GB - Vista goes into the gut wrenching boot up reboot loop. When I go into safe mode, the last driver Vista attempts to load is the crcdisk.sys. But as I have read in the forums, this is the last driver loaded so it does not neccesarily mean that this driver is the problem.

I'm running Vista HP with SP2. The update package from 9/8 keeps hanging on the "Stage 3" part. It is in a loop where it is in the configuring updates mode for a while, then does a restart. Next time through, the same thing. It has cycled through this at least 10 times without finishing the updates.

I purchased a new machine and It seems to run through OK and then decides to do what I call a 'boot loop'. It goes through the 'normal' Dos-like screens, does a blue-screen 'chkdsk' thingy (says that windows was shut-down incorrectly - which it wasn't) and then asks if I want to start in one of the tasty flavours of 'safe mode'. Now, I've been to safe-mode, being the submissive I can be, but that accomplishes nothing, except the grace of a computer stuck in the Middle Ages. Anyway, I decide to start Windows as 'normal' and it goes on this 'boot loop'. The good news is that it usually (90%+) makes it to the desktop and the system sings sweetly thereafter. My concern is that there is a little gremlin stuck somewhere in my system and I want to find a way to exorcise the beast. Note: I can provide more specific 'screen' data if needed, i.e. taking a photo of the offending screens.

Had an incomplete install of a program...computer otherwise working fine...did a system restore to try to go back to preinstall...in the system restore shutdown and restart, now hung up in a update configuation loop that is in third step up to 99% that shuts down only to do the same thing over and over again. So my system never gets to the mainscreen acknowledging system was restored.
I tried F8 going to safe mode, but configuation step 3 takes over again, goes to 99% and shuts down to restart.
I tried the vista 64 sp1 disc...cannot acccess another restore point since it says the system is already in restore mode....just never gets there with the endless 3rd step update configuration loop.
The disc also does not offer the repair/update mode as an option...only full install.
I do have norton ghost 14 on the system...so there is a complete backup file on another internal drive...but no way to get to it to initiate a recovery ...

I believe I have a (Vista Ultimate x64 RC-1? Already has SP1) cd. I can install it fine. I can then install the correct drivers for my hardware. And all works well, until... I use windows updates and select the 'important' only updates. After that, I'm stuck in a boot-loop. And by boot-loop, I mean I can't get into windows OR safe-mode. I have done this 2 times so far. It definitely only happens when I run the updates (can work perfectly fine for days w/o the updates). It's like I'm just now allowed to have an updated version of Vista. I made a restore point prior to the updates, so I can get back to where I was, but I obviously can't run an outdated OS all the time.

i installed sp2 several times. First time it worked fine until we had a power outage and it unregistered my windows installation and cited security breach as the reason why it could not rereg the os. so I reinstalled the OS. after about a week i installed sp2 and again it worked fine for about 3 days Then it unregistered the os again. This time i uninstalled the SP and all was fine. went to reinstall the sp and it would make it to the 100% mark and back out the whole installation.
AFter reading forums til my eyeballs bled i found i could "rearm" the system. I did this and SP2 reinstalled fine. The next day updates told me i had 1 important update and it was a sp2 uninstallation tool. I clicked ok and d/l it when the system rebooted it promptly removed sp2. I reinstalled sp2 it reinstalled fine. The next day new definitions for defender came in and when it rebooted it removed sp2 again>??? Any ideas this round robin installation system seems to be stuck in a loop and im stuck with something just not sure what.

A friend of mine asked me if he can upgrade from XP to Vista. I advised him to run the Vista upgrade advisor which he did and got an OK. He proceeded to upgrade. After a few days, I got a call from him. In a disgruntled voice he explained to me how the system slowed down, he ran into various problems, locking up, etc. and at the end of the conversation he made this plea - "I WANT MY XP BACK!" Can I run restore doing the following:
1) Use system restore
or
2) Reinstall XP from his original CD

I installed "HDD Sentinel" just to check what it was like and compare it to "HDD Life" I then uninstalled it. (Sentinel slightly changed the original icon by putting green bars on the icon). After, I opened My Computer and the Hard Disk Icons were changed (see Capture.jpg). Does anyone know how to revert the changes to the original icon? The "OS (C: " was the only one that had a Windows Vista icon on an image of a hard disk and the rest were the same but without the icon (see os.jpg).
