I have a laptop running Windows Vista and would like print from it. I have a Desk top running XP and have set up the wireless router, workgroups and the printer. My Desktop can see the Laptop; but the Laptop doesn't show the Desktop and I am unable to print from the Laptop. We do have another laptop running XP and it's able to view the desktop and print with no problem.
Not sure what is happening to my vista laptop. Recently i have noticed that i am unable to play my DVD's. More to the point I am unable to see the DVD player in my computer.
What i have done to remedy the situation is as follows.
1. Booted up and checked the BIOS made sure that the CD was booting first and HDD second.
2. Checked in My Computer properties there was no exclamation mark against any hardware and i was unable to see my DVD detailed there.
3. The DVD player is an internal player and i am unable to detatch and re-attach.
I have a Toshiba satellite A135-S2346. It's always worked fine. One day it when I plugged my ipod charger into it, it froze. Now the laptop wont start at all it has a 1 in 3 chance of starting, if it does. It freezes at the Toshiba logo, and makes a static, popping noise from the speakers. Anything I can do? Or began to figure the issue out?
When the downloads are complete I get either one of two error messages: '...is not a valid win32 application' OR 'The set up files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the software.' I have attempted to install these programs at least three times and still get the above messages. Since the laptop is brand new, i doubt there is a virus on it.
I have purchased a new wireless adsl router Aztech dsl605ew. I tried to connect wifi with my vista dell laptop but message shown that: Windows cannot connect to xxx. I used my other xp laptop to connect and I'm able to connect to the internet via wifi.
I bought an Laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. If I install a FULL version of Windows 7 on this Laptop, can I use the Vista Home Premium 32bit key from the laptop on one of my other desktops? If so, would I talk to Microsoft or the manufacturer to get a disk without all the manufacturer "Bonus" software?
Had some issues with my mouse (USB device not recognized), and had an occasional time where computer would not respond after going into sleep mode and I'd have to hit the power button. Seemed to become more frequent, and then this. Only recent event was installing SP1 for Vista, but problem was already appearing prior to that.
I'm not able to boot the computer, getting the "carpet texture" on my screen and it freezes up, not able to finish booting. Ran dell diagnostics, indicated no hardware issue and no new hardware installed. I do have a blue tooth phone now, but have not syncd them up. Ran memory diagnostic tool, no memory issues..............
I am running Window Vista Home Premium SP1 and have been unable to start WMC using the remote control, shortcuts or by running the ehshell.exe both normally and as administrator. When I try to start WMC using any of the above it looks like the programme trys to start (blue circle appears for a few seconds) then nothing happens.
The last time I tried to open MCE I recieved the following error message: - C:WINDOWSehomeehshell.exe "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Every few days after restarting the PC an icon appears on the system tray informing me that WMC is downloading guide information from the net for the TV channel listing. When I right click on the icon and select open WMC I get the following error message: - "Unable to start Windows Media Centre"
I have tried setting up a new shortcut, uninstalled and reinstalled SP1 and have installed the latest driver for my video card NVIDIA GeForce 7650 GS driver 7.15.11.7490 and have still been unable to resolve the problem. I have searched the net and Microsoft support and have been unable to find a solution
there must be many people who have moved all their mail from XP on one laptop to Vista mail on a new laptop. These two computers can see each other on the network. How can I easily move all history, contacts, folders etc from one to the other?
When I input the cd to install XP it is stating that it cannot since there is a newer verision on the laptop. If I try to reformat C and take Vista off, it says i can't do that since this is the operating system for the laptop and won't format. How do I remove Vista and put XP on it?
Just want to know how you guys reformat without the OS disc, cos my lappy doesnt come with a recovery disc or OS disc but am quite sure they have install the recovery somewhere in my lappy... Also, if the recovery is in the lappy itself, are we able to extract it and save it into a disc?
I have a Compaq laptop with Vista Home Basic that keeps crashing on me. Everything seems to be working for a while and then, all of a sudden, the screen turns blue and the computer restarts. This has happened 50 times in the past 2 weeks. I have been trying to figure out how to reformat the computer, but I am not sure how to go about that,

I have an authentic Windows copy but do not have the disk for it. I am currently running Windows XP and I want to reformat my hard drive to clean up this old computer. Is there any way that I can download a genuine copy of Windows XP to install onto my comp again after the format?
I don't want windows live mail as my default email account. I wen to Set Default Programs. I'm unable to uncheck marks on MAIL-TO PROTOCOL and EMAIL-LINK START MENU LINK. how can I fix that through REGEDIT.
I have Vista 64 OEM and have been using it for about 3 weeks. I decided to buy XP again and made a dual-boot setup. The problem is that I had to remove Vista to install XP first. Now, after I reinstalled Vista its saying that my old activation activation code is "already in use." I haven't installed any new hardware. Is there a way to tell it that this is the same computer, just with Vista reinstalled?
Using Vista 64 I want to completley reformat my harddrive and reinstall vista but it doesnt seem to want to let me delete everything it wants to backup some files and put them in a windows.old folder. I obtained a virus that cant be removed by any program (I've literaly tried everything spent days trying) I just want to reformat with no backups. I remember reformating reinstalling windows XP by using a dos command after bios like /reformat C: or something? How do I completely reformat my main drive in Vista?
I have tons of pictures, schools papers, etc. on my computer, and I want to keep the files, but reformat my system aka get it back to factory condition. What are my best options? Anything goes, except I dont have an external harddrive which Is what i would like to do. I do have dvds, and cds, and 4gb flash drive, and 4gb and 1gb sd cards... Well I've been able to get this stupid MSI P6N Diamond MB to run okay but just getting fustraited over the way it would act up. Anyway I ended up going shopping and now have a Intel Core i7-965 Extreme Edition Processor, GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P 1366 X58 MB and 12 gigs of CORSAIR DOMINATOR (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 on the way. Hopefully I will die before I ever need to upgrade anything else.....
Well with upping the memory, figured 12 would be better than 6 for x64 systems now the PSU calculator says I will need 566W so still less than my PSU. Only other thing I wonder is is Vista smart enough that I can just move the HD's from my current sytem or should I expect that I'll have to reformat and reinstall Vista x64
I have been having alot of slow downs, and alot of problems lately, heres a quick list: usb ports wont identify things when i plug them in, I have to reinstall the usb port for it to realize its there, as for my wireless mouse and keyboard it doesnt recognize it at all my network card will work for a while then only give me limited connectivity resulting in me having to use a usb wireless thing, but the above problem makes this annoying. Plus I figured that starting Vista clean would be a bit better, but my question is how do I reformat my hard drive in vista I tryed the old command prompt "format c:" but it gives me a ridiculous message saying i need to be in elevated mode So unless someone can help me fix the above problems, I need someone to help me reformat my hard drive
I am getting ready to install Vista Home Premium with an SP1 disc included. I have XP Pro now. I know I would have to reformat since it won't do the over install with the versions I'm working with. I'm fine with that. I have a dual HD laptop. I will take out my C drive with XP and put another identical one in to install Vista on. I have reformatted many times. There are certain registry entries I keep to help get my programs back the way I like them. Will XP's registry entries work with Vista? Sure makes it easier to get things tweaked and back the way I likeKate
after installing vista the setup completes and a reboot is necessary so when windows is "starting for the first time" i sit there for about 5min then it loads winbeta again with an error message "setup is unable to start the installation" after it auto reboots winbeta now loads each time with an error that the computer was rebooted or that setup encountered an error and you must start over.

I keep getting the blue screen and it crashed on me several times freezing and the only way to get rid of the freeze was to manually restart. I reformatted my computer. Everything has run smoothly until the second week, no freezing but the blue screen just comes up! Ever since that time it come up it does it now at least 2-3 times a day. I don't know what to do with this computer anymore. -Sony Vaio VGN-CS115J. I've installed two different registry repairs and it seems to make everything worse than it already is. I run chkdsk and it gives me just the information "chkdsk /f" doesn't work. How can I repair what the chkdsk has encountered?
