It just would not boot up after shuting off the computer. The system kicked into the black option screen where I selected to let Windows run a [forget the wording] restore function. It finally did restore the system. I thought it was caused by the automatic Sun Java update that I allowed to be installed just before that happened.

The Lil green vista bar comes up and such. But after that no start up noise. No nothing just pitch black. My one guess is its something to do with the display driver maybe because that has been stuffing up a bit of late, in the way of the screen going black for a couple of seconds then recovering.
i was updating drivers for my motherboard when my desktop froze and i was forced to manually reset, after the reset the computer restarted normally but it was slow on logon and it was weird since it always acts fast, i tryed to finish installing the drivers and it froze up again! so again i restarted, when i did... BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH!!!
when i try to reboot i get the boot choices (start windows normally, safe mode...) and none of them work! is all the same black screen with the cursor, i dnt get a choice of "last good known configuration" either, i tryed pressing ctrl-alt-del and nothing happens! does anyone know how to solve this problem without reinstalling windows? i have 300GB worth of stuff i dont wanna loose!
I tryed the windows vista disc repair procedure and it tells me it cant fix the problem, i try system restore and it tells me there is no restore points set, which it cant be true because a few days ago i opened system restore and saw tons of restore points from before.
So I've read so many pages all around the web about this problem, with no explainable reason (no updates or installations) I booted up yesterday to find that after login my desktop was black with only my cursor visible. I wait some 5 or 6 minutes and the desktop appears but explorer.exe is slower than slow and takes the same amount of time to action any click. Painstakingly, I went through msconfig and disabled everything, one by one I re-enabled each item, rebooted and tested the results. Rinse and repeat for every process. All worked fine until I came across 'Shell Hardware Detect'. If this process is enabled then I get the error described above.
So a cursory search around the web doesn't seem to yield many resolutions to this problem. I only seem to be able to find similar issues on Win XP SP2 - however i'm running Vista Premium X64 SP2. I'm angling towards SP2 as ever since I installed it I've noticed a few bugs. Typically, searching on Microsoft's support website the term Shell Hardware Detection yields nothing whatsoever. Anyone have any ideas how I can get this process functioning properly again?
after my computer boots it gets stuck on a black screen with a mouse cursor in the middle. I have been researching and reading for a solution but have not found one that works for me. I can't boot into safe mode or even safe mode with command prompt so i cant do any registry fixes which some people suggest. Iv also tried last known good configuration but that didnt work either. ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work either. iv tried doing a clean install and using the windows diagnostics and recovery toolset version 6. but they havnt worked either after the loading files bar the KSOD comes back again, it is like the computer cannot read the discs or it wont boot from them.

Restart - tried all safe modes but will not pass crcdisk.sys..... Attemoted to start from dvd - finally got that working - Go in to repair mode - it finds Vista on by C: parition - scans for problems but can't fix them.. Try system restore - says there are none - which isn't true...tried the command prompt and did bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot still no change..... I even attempted to do a clean upgrade over the old one, but of course the upgrade option is grayed out...

i went into my HDD and scheduled an error checking..well windows loaded as normal, but no error checking occurred i guess...now after the green bar is done, the screen hangs on a black screen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had an issue with my computer booting properly. I went from a 1:05 boot time to over a 2:00 boot because Vista go's to a black screen instead of loading my desktop. I'm not sure where to start fixing this, I've always been good with computers and have tried all the text book fixes and I have no where left to go. I made a video which is uploading now and will be up incase this doesn't make as much sense as I'd hope. All my drivers are up to date.

Then, it goes to a black screen, then a darker shade, then a lighter shade of black. Then, an arrow appears. Nothing happens afterward. The screensaver will come on after a while. I tried hitting the F11-F12 keys but I still just get a regular startup instead of boot from disc. View 6 Replies View RelatedVista will not boot normally. I get to the black screen just before the Welcome, and then... nothing. Just a black screen. I CAN start in safe mode with networking, however. I disabled EVERYTHING in the msconfig startup, as well as all non-Microsoft service, to no avail. When I run ComboFix, I get the msg 'ComboFix is preparing to run', followed by 'Acess Denied. Administrator permissions are need to use the selected options. Use an administrator command prompt to complete these tasks'. I did right click on the CF icon on my desktop, and selected 'run as administrator' but got the same result. If I just let it run as is, I get the usual 'Scanning for infected files... This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes, etc...', but NOTHING ever happens for at least 15 minutes after which ComboFix finally does start. However, while its running through the 50 stages, embedded in those stages is the occasional ''Access Denied. Administrator permissions are needed....". The completion of CF and subsequent restart did absolutely nothing to change the boot problem. I do have a MS Vista install disk, and I've run Startup repair. No change.....................

View 4 Replies View Relatedi cant egt Vista to boot up? last night i installed acrobat 9.1 then shut down. went to boot up again and no OS? all i get ia a screen with the ASUS logo? the laptop is making a dnnn, dnnn, dnnn sound for a wile and it will give me the first few notes of the windows tone, then nothing. after a wile the ASUS screen is replaced with reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot medie in selected boot device and press a key_ (the _ is blinking). no matter what key i press, it just repeats above message. the computer is 9 days old. i have been in the bios and reset to factory setting as well as tried user settings. checked to see that the hard drive was on the boot location list ( it is ) i do not have a Vista CD just a ASUS recovery CD (with Vista on it). i would love to not lose my info at at all possible, so i am trying to find an option that dose not cause me to recover and lose every thing? F8 dose nothing, F2 gets me into BIOS setup. no other keys seem to do anything on start up? cant seem to get into safe boot up or safe mode. after the computer gets to the reboot screen the dnnnnn,dnnn,dnnn stops

Yeah nice one it bsod on me At 55% chkdsk and now I get a windows boot manager error file: ootcd
I tried Bootrec /RebuildBcd but it brings back an error that it can not create the new file as the file already exists. I'm not having much luck with the recovery disk for repair options as it can't seem to find the OS and brings back errors of can not recover everything seems on a go slow and ubuntu can't find my c drive even tried spin right and that can't recover a bad sector I'm at a loss as to what to do befor the fresh install option I'm on my last option to try use a back up store disk
I have a problem with this graphic card, when I run a game with better graphic details. My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new Compaq computer to replace our 7 year old 667Mhz machine. We've had XP on our old unit for years. It ran slow and other issues with an older machine.
We set out to upgrade so we can run our cool games (warcraft, Sims 2 etc), along with some multimedia production software like GoldWave, Photoshop CS 2 with the latest equipment. Many of my programs are image files and only have a few of the original disks, so I've been using virtual CD ROM program(s).
After waiting for a week for our new Compaq SR5130NX computer I'm disgustingly disappointed.
The machine is great- Dual AMD 64 processors working in tandom- fast bus speed and GeForce 7300 graphics card. I really like my hardware but does NO good with an OS that SUCKS.
Only about 1/3 of the programs I need/want to run actually work on Vista. I found NO virtual CD-ROM software that works. I even tried the Elby virtual drive but the cursor only changes to a perpetual rotating circle which eventually crashes the OS and forces it to load a restore point.
I tried Alcohol virtual CD-ROM software but it too crashes the OS- so bad that I get the "Blue screen of death" and won't even boot up.
I've had to run my system restore disks 4 times now trying to find which of my programs run and which won't. (Keeps on crashing)
Honestly, I think WINDOWS 95 v1 is better.
I've finally given up in disgust, realizing my new machine just won't run the programs I bought it for, and wish to God I could run XP or even W98 on it. But alas, I understand they don't make drivers for older OS's for my new machine.
Since Microsoft have forced computer MFG's to adopt this BETA JUNK OS on all their new machines- and I'm stuck like everyone else, I'm here to learn to get the most out of this BAD $oftware.
I no longer have any desire to use my new computer since it won't run anything I need it to. The kids use it and just run the bundled stuff.
It has become a routine. This dreaded screen (which I've never seen during my seven years with Windows XP) has poped up several times.
Is there a way to see what causes the problem. I was denied access to some mini dumps.

Then afterwards it showed me this screen as the new drivers installed: In that box on the toolbar it says "new drivers installing" then 3 seconds later it goes to the Blue Screen Of Death...it does it every time i boot up, in safe mode too.

Upon doing diagnostics after hitting F8 during startup, it says error code 2000-0146 with Hard Drive 1. What the heck is going on, and how do I fix this? Dell Inspiron 1525, manufactured 7/2008. Of course, warranty ran out...go figure. Vista Home Premium. Will *never* buy another Dell again. Nothing but problems with every one of them.

I don't know much about Vista and have failed to locate the problem. A really interesting thing is, the crash happens everytime I try to upload something somewhere, like an email attachment or to uploadsites like uploadr. Even if uploaded, the files are always corrupted.
