View 5 RepliesRecently some of the File Save dialogs are coming up maximized. IE7 and Visual Studio 8 are affected mostly. In one case, I accidently hit the little "Maximize" button instead "Dismiss". There is no corresponding "Normal" button in the maximized dialog. How do I get these dialogs back to normal?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought this laptop in February 2008 and I have had problems with the windows minimizing and maximizing from the beginning. They seem to have a mind of their own. I will be typing along or browsing and all of a suddent the window will minimize. I can reopen it and click back on the page and it will minimize again. It is getting worse. I bought two of these the same day and one belongs to me and the other one is my daughters, however, hers was not doing this until recently. She says it has started doing it. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it Vista or the computer itself? I am really ready to get this thing fixed! Get more and more frequent and aggravating!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with my Vista Home Premium x64 and haven't found a solution so far. My PC started recently to minimize some games to the tray when I start them.
Those games are:
- Sacred Gold
- Ghost Recon (inlcuding both addons)
- Tom Clancy's HAWX Demo
- Braid Demo
I can't figure out what's causing this... The problem only started to occur recently - I don't know why. I uninstalled everything I had installed recently, but to no avail.
My OS is Vista 64 Home Premium. I would like to minimize the disk space that the OS allocates for this function but don't see the option under System Properties where it is found in XP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAlmost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.
Error check on my HP Laptop that has vista home edition. for some reason it froze at 4% in the first stage (1 of 5), at this point i was able to exit the error check by pressing Escape, i went on and defragmented my computer next and did various virus and spyware cleanups, then i decided to do the error check again, this time the same thing happened but now i am unable to exit the error check. so my question is: is there anything i can do on my own or should i send it in to a professional?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new computer that has Windows Mail installed. I have tried to set the program so that emails I have sent to delete are GONE (deleted) automatically when I exit the program. I have gone into Tools, Options, Advanced and Maintenance and checked the box that allaows for the automatically deletion of emails. I check the box but it does not stay checked and the program does not do what I want it to do.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm cross-posting because these 2 problems appeared at the same time (after installing a lot of Windows XP application software) and may be related. I am thinking of laboriously going back through a lot of restore points, but would prefer some insight as to exactly what happened. Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell D830 with McAfee virus and e-mail protection. For the first week or so, neither problem was present.
(1) Windows Mail (winmail.exe) does not terminate its process when I exit. Thus I can't launch it again unless I either log out and log in again, or manually kill the process. Temporarily turning off McAfee e-mail scanning does not affect this.
(2) Whenever I delete anything from the desktop (whether my own desktop or the All Users desktop), Explorer hangs with a message like "Recycling 1 item...". I hit Cancel and the message box becomes unresponsive. I can still delete items from the desktop using Command Prompt and perhaps also in other ways.
Whats a command to put in a batch file that when exit is pressed it either wont do anything or it will minimze itself it would be something like
@echo off
if exit /m
then i dont know what else or if thats wrong please another solution!
Both XP/Vista Concern: XPS Viewer EP (set as default, on opening XPS files) I can mazimise on open the shortcut XPS Viewer EP, however anytime I click on a XPS file, it opens in a normal windows. Moreover, Windows XP/Vista remember the last window size, XPS Viewer does not. Need opening XPS files in the XPS Viewer EP Maximized on Open (file option, registry?),

After spending a lot of time trying to find a solution, here is the way I have solve the problem. Now the sidebar is just working fine. This behavior is observed if the XML registration is missing in the system. To fix the problem, use the following steps:
* Close Windows Sidebar. To do so, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the Notification area and click Exit
* Open an elevated Command Prompt window. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
* In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press ENTER:
I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I want to add a 'new folder' button to the button bar in my folder view. I do a LOT of file relocation and I make new folders constantly and want a one-click solution. I searched the forums first but found no solution. Thank you in advance for the help. I am NOT looking for a right-click option or a menu add-on. I just want a button.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen closing a browser, should you go to "file" then "exit" or can you just go to the upper right hand of the screen and just hit the "X".... and does it make a difference? Someone told me it does, and you should never close it out by using the "X".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. Everything I've read or
seen about it shows a round start button at the bottom. Mine has an XP-type
start button.
Even after shutting-down the PC, Start - Shut-down, a green light in the middle of the PC is still on, although the PC has been shut-down completely. I need to turn-off its light by pulling off power-cable connected with the PC. Does this indicate 'malfunction' light inside the PC?

BTW, I have Vista Home Premium X32, if that makes any difference.
I did install the "Vista Start Menu" freeware and it works, but I want the

I have a problem with the arrow next to the lock button. Half of it is missing. The only thing i have found was a reg hack to remove the lock button to allow more room for the arrow. The reg change did not work and messed up my mouse and keyboard along with no sound from media player. A system restore fixed everything. Has anyone had this problem with the arrow? See attachment.

View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery now and again, a strange thing happenes to my start bar. It completely freezes, and I can't click anything on there apart from the start button. I can't select any tabs, or use the system tray. If that doesn't happen, sometimes the Start button decides to freeze instead. Basically it goes dark (like it does when it has been pressed) and then it stays like that and it won't let me open it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I minimize a web page the respective taskbar button will replace the previous taskbar button. For instance if I minimize web page 1, I will get a button. but when I go to web page 2 and minimize it the button replaces the button for web page 1. The buttons are not stacked. Shouldn't I get a task bar button for each web page that is minimized so that I can retrieve particular pages as desired? The taskbar button feature seems to work when opening multiple programs as described in Vista Support, but it does not seem to function with multiple windows.
