Maintenance Check Box Allows Automatically Deleting On Exit
Mar 23, 2008
I have just bought a new computer that has Windows Mail installed. I have tried to set the program so that emails I have sent to delete are GONE (deleted) automatically when I exit the program. I have gone into Tools, Options, Advanced and Maintenance and checked the box that allaows for the automatically deletion of emails. I check the box but it does not stay checked and the program does not do what I want it to do.
Error check on my HP Laptop that has vista home edition. for some reason it froze at 4% in the first stage (1 of 5), at this point i was able to exit the error check by pressing Escape, i went on and defragmented my computer next and did various virus and spyware cleanups, then i decided to do the error check again, this time the same thing happened but now i am unable to exit the error check. so my question is: is there anything i can do on my own or should i send it in to a professional?
I am running Windows Vista. I am having a problem with Windows Mail inthat every time I switch between folders, the last e-mail in my Inbox disappears. It doesn't go into the Deleted Items folder, it just vanishes. I have lost several important e-mails today.
Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:
AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK. Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen
Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.
Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.
I'm cross-posting because these 2 problems appeared at the same time (after installing a lot of Windows XP application software) and may be related. I am thinking of laboriously going back through a lot of restore points, but would prefer some insight as to exactly what happened. Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell D830 with McAfee virus and e-mail protection. For the first week or so, neither problem was present.
(1) Windows Mail (winmail.exe) does not terminate its process when I exit. Thus I can't launch it again unless I either log out and log in again, or manually kill the process. Temporarily turning off McAfee e-mail scanning does not affect this.
(2) Whenever I delete anything from the desktop (whether my own desktop or the All Users desktop), Explorer hangs with a message like "Recycling 1 item...". I hit Cancel and the message box becomes unresponsive. I can still delete items from the desktop using Command Prompt and perhaps also in other ways.
I tried to change the location of my email account to the new localtion by Maintenance/Store Folder/Change..., then choose the path to store my email data then press OK, but a message appeared say that "The directory you selected is not empty. Please select an empty directory for your new store location.", then "Windows Mail was unable to write to the regitry so your store will not be moved" How can I change the location store to the new location?
It seems that I'm not the only one who had the Windows Sidebar no longer working after installing the new release of Internet Explorer. After spending a lot of time trying to find a solution, here is the way I have solve the problem. Now the sidebar is just working fine. This behavior is observed if the XML registration is missing in the system. To fix the problem, use the following steps:
* Close Windows Sidebar. To do so, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the Notification area and click Exit
* Open an elevated Command Prompt window. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
* In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press ENTER:
I'm unable to use spell check. I keep getting the following message "This language is no longer available for spell check". What do I need to do to activate spell check?
When closing a browser, should you go to "file" then "exit" or can you just go to the upper right hand of the screen and just hit the "X".... and does it make a difference? Someone told me it does, and you should never close it out by using the "X".
i want to delete my Windows XP Pro partition on my HDD as i am running out of space, when i goto disk management in admin tools it doesn't give me the option to delete as it is non-clickable, i also want to merge the XP partition once i've deleted it. My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit,
How can I be certain that a few files that I want permanently deleted cannot be recovered by someone at a later date. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and I recently did a full hard disc recovery, reinstalling all the applications of Microsoft Office. However, I read somewhere yesterday that some files may still be recoverable by knowledgeable searchers. I had some files that I never want to see again and I do not want anyone else to see them either.
Just as earlier post says...I too have, in just the past 2 days, begun to have something wacky going on with my Windows Mail. When I open, it receives and posts mesages in the appropriate folders so it is downloading the mesages and the count of how many in each folder. BUT, then the problems start...Sometimes, if I open the email and read it, then move to another folder with mail it deletes the emails just read in the first folder. Other times, it will delete the mail in one particular folder just as I click to open it and read them. I have already gone through and checked View---> Current View---Show All.
I have also watched carefully at the top right corner of my email and each of the 3 folders is marked "Show all Mesages". Nothing is marked to be "Hidden". I have also checked and re-checked the three message rules. The deleted mails are nowhere else to be found. It's now to the point where I may not even get to read them once deposited in the folder of my mailbox. One folder in particular is having the most problems.
ive been trying to delete some large files for a long time, but everytime I do an error comes up saying "you need permission to perform this action" and that the destination folder access was denied. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Can anybody assist me with deleting contacts - I have attempted to delete from the contacts in windows mail but the message windows explorer has stoped working appears and then closes the file down. I have also tried through the explorer but the same message appears.
I published a application i made with vb2005 express edition, zipped it up with winzip and emailed to my friend who is using vista x64. Whilst doing the extraction process vista is deleting the setup.exe but not the other files in the zipped file. I have successfully done this on at least 5 other vista machine and have not had this issue before. He is logged in on the only account according to him which is the admin account. How can we overcome this security flaw?
A copy of my picture folder ended up in my music folder. When i tried to move it i got all screwed up. The folders are now empty. I want to delete the one on the desktop with out loosing the original.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P105 than runs on Vista Home Premium 32bit.
I bought the computer used, so it already came partitioned, and without any CDs.
I'm fairly competent in my computer skills; I just need someone to tell me how to remove the partition(which is a (D:) drive) and reboot my pc without a CD.
I am hoping to find an automated method for deleting the Vista Search Folders. I tried command line scripts to remove the folder (RMDIR or DELTREE), but I'm not having any luck with the search folders. I am able to delete other folders with a script (like this one): Del C:Myfolder*.*.* RMDir C:Myfolder But I cannot delete a Vista Search Folders like this folder; C:UsersmynameSearchesEverywhere I can delete them manually, but not with a script.
I recently had to reformat my computer, but saved basically all of my old computer in the folder windows.old before doing so. Now that I wiped my drive and reinstalled vista, I want to get rid of that windows.old folder because it is huge and I don't use it anymore, but I can't get clearance to delete or move it to an external hard drive.
I read an article about deleting old Update Backups in XP. The article showed where they were stored. Where are the old Vista Update Backup folders stored? I understand from the article that they take up considerable hard drive space. I don't intend on deleting the most recent but are there any others that should not be deleted?
I recently deleted some 2,000+ files from my WindowsTemp folder. I remember - back in my Windows 2000 days - I set up a batch file that executed on boot-up from the Start-up folder that deleted such files. What would the equivalent procedure be for Vista Home Premium (64-bit)? Am I able to duplicate that former procedure? Are there other temp files that are created that I should be aware of for deleting purposes?
