Gaming Mice

Mar 6, 2009

I am looking for a new gaming mouse, but I have no idea what to get. So far I have narrowed it down to a Logitech G5 or a Microsoft Sidewinder. I currently have a Logitech G7, however to get a new one is out of my price range. ($50-$70 Canadian). Any other suggestions out there? Leave a note of what you use personally as I am open to any opinions

Dual Mice: Scolling Stopped Working Habu Mouse

Oct 26, 2008

I run vista ultimate x64 and went for MS wireless entertainment 7000 keyboard mouse bundle. The mouse is a bit crap particularly for games so a couple of days ago I bought the razor/MS habu mouse. I assumed (and according to google searches) that they would both work and control the same pointer which was great. It did this for an hour or so but then the scolling stopped working on the habu mouse. I deleted or disabled the drivers for both mice and gave it another swing. Again it worked for a while then the habu mouse stopped scolling (although the buttons work). Now disabling/uninstalling/reinstalling drivers in device manager has no effect and the scoll wont work at all. Is it possible to have both these mice working perminantly?

Logitech G15, Freezes

Oct 18, 2009

I play MMO's so I figured it would be a handy addition to my set up. Much to my dismay, it freezes basically any and every game that it touches. Sometimes (and only sometimes) the "unplug it and plug it back in when the game is loaded" work around actually works, but it is rare. I would love for my keyboard to just actually work without having to jump thru hoops each time I wanted to do something. Also, turning off all the extra drivers for it, well that kind of defeats the purpose of using it if i kill the drivers for it's monitor and macro keys

Logitech Webcams And SP1

Mar 23, 2008

Still trying to pinpoint what exactly stopped my SP1 installation and caused it to fail. "Additionally, Windows Update will not offer Windows Vista SP1 tocomputers together with the Logitech QuickCam that uses the Lvuvc.sys device drivers (all versions). Microsoft has detected a flaw in the Windows Vista Ks.sys file that can cause a critical stop during Windows Vista SP1 installation if this device driver file is installed. An update to Ks.sys is being created that resolves this
issue."

I have a logitech webcam, but i don't find this driver on my system, at least not by doing a start/search for it. I also have a CL audigy SE sound card, but the 2 drivers listed as problematic, don't show up in a start/search. Someone else mentioned that they have an Audigy Card and had no problems installing. has anyone had a problem with SP1 because of a logitech webcam? has anyone installed SP1 WITH a logitech webcam?

Logitech MX500 Under X64 Can Not Working

Sep 14, 2008

Anyone happen to still be using a Logitech MX500? Before I start looking for a new mouse, I'd like to know if the "Cruise" functionality works without Mouseware (which isn't supported under Vista). Setpoint doesn't support this device AFAIK.I know that there are other ways to "fast scroll" around, but none of them offer the same speed of scrolling or ease-of-use.

Logitech Z-10 Speaker: How Work?

Jun 22, 2009

I was given a pair of Logitech Z-10 USB Speakers. I'm running Vista 64. I've never seen a USB speaker system....Not sure how they work. Will I have problems with these speakers? Will they use my sound card? Do they put a heavier load on the CPU than a sound card? I've downloaded the latest 64bit drivers, but they are dated '07, so I'm not sure if I want to try these.

PB INIT Failure Fix UPDATED

Dec 23, 2007

No replies to my Call of Duty 4 problem thread question......I was still being kicked by Punkbuster. I reinstalled twice, updated Punkbuster and ran pbsvc.exe without success. This is the one change I made that has allowed me to play COD 4 without getting kicked by PB. I right-clicked the multiplayer icon and checked the run as XP service pack 2 compatible under the compatibility tab. I even disconnected my router and "gasp" turned of the Vista firewall to eliminate anything that might have blocked my connecting. *I have since enabled both firewalls*. I have been running it on and off for 2 days now, no errors. Try this and please let me know if it works for you. Then other people will hopefully find this thread.

Logitech Gadget For Sidebar Not Working

Jan 27, 2010

I am having trouble with the Logitech gadgets for the Windows sidebar. I have ensured that the software for my Wireless Wave Logitech keyboard/mouse is up to date and also that Windows is up to date and I have run McAfee anti virus scans and Superantispyware and nothing untoward has been found. I have been trying to download and install the Caps lock gadget which used to work but no longer does. I have tried reinstalling it and rebooting several times but to no avail. I got in touch with Logitech who advised me to update SetPoint which I did , still didn't work so they very kindly sent me this new wireless keyboard/ mouse combo but the gadget in the sidebar still doesn't work. I also tried the battery monitor gadget and that doesn't work either.

Even after it is open, it takes a long to accept any keystroke. I am using Vista home premium 32 bit with 4 gigs of ram operating Dell Inspiron 531 AMD Athlon 5000 plus. Potential Logitech G7 Mouse Freeze

Apr 7, 2009

For all of you G7 owners who continue to struggle with random freezing: As others have so eloquently noted there is a strong consenus that this is a hardware issue potentially related to multiple factors including radio interferance, battery malfunction / contact issues, usb power, etc. Here is a list of things to try, any of which may (or may not) solve the problem:

1) unplug the usb transmitter from the adapter and plug it back in. This did the trick for me about 50% of the time. Sometime toggling the DPI buttons (the + and - buttons on the mouse) up and down also helps.
2) if the freeze gets so bad that the cursor wouldn't move try shutting down the PC, unplugging the cord to the power supply, toggling the power supply switch to discharge the motherboard capacitors, then turn on the PC and reboot.
3) clean the battery contacts. Remove the battery and use one side of a Q-tip soaked in isopropanol and clean the contacts on the battery and inside the mouse (the 3 prongs sticking out of the end of the battery slot). Make sure to use the dry end of the Q-tip to remove all of the isopropanol before sticking the battery back into the mouse.
4) if the transmitter is near a wireless router or other transmitter (bluetooth radio, modem, etc.) place it as far away from these devices as possible.

Updated Information On Live Hotmail, CANNOT Set The Program

Jun 13, 2009

There were plenty of reasons to avoid moving to Vista, but I've done so under duress: my laptop died and Vista is the only 64-bit system installed on PCs these days. Unfortunately, I CANNOT set the program called Windows Live Hotmail as my default mail program. Under the topic of Hotmail and Vista, the only postings on this are dated to 2007. Surely someone has configured a system with this revised version of Hotmail. It runs on this computer, but is not recognized as a setting for default.

I DO NOT want Windows Live Mail. I DO NOT want Outlook, I DO NOT want Microsoft Windows... Been there, done that. Does anyone have a work around, or must I strip Vista and load XP? So far I've wasted ten days trying to deal with Vista. This is about to push me over the edge and back to XP!

Reactivated Windows Defender, Updated, Found Nothing

Aug 8, 2009

The latency symptoms I described have disappeared although Disk Cleanup might have removed something that was clogging up IE8 and/or the desktop. Besides that I reactivated Windows Defender, updated and ran it. But it found nothing. I then ran the latest MS Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found nothing. And I ran another KIS sweep. It noted something like a Java update I needed and a Firefox update I needed and after updating those then found no vulnerabilities. I also unloaded the game DVD, 'Prototype' that was in the tray installed and ready to play.

And at some point after rebooting I tried IE8 again and left it running for most of a day and the latency in its Favorites or in the desktop Task Bar has not returned once since. I loaded the game DVD again and played it a few times but left the DVD with the tray closed and still no latency issue has returned. This had been bothering me a number of days prior in-between reboots and running many several apps in the course of a day and seeing this latency problem many times, which was usually what would drive me to reboot since that would clear up the problem for a while............
