View 4 RepliesMy power went down and when it returned, I could not access the internet via my Cisco Linksys router, model WRT350N. Windows diagnostics returned the subject error message. After 12 hours of researching and trying a number of "fixes" suggested on many forums, including this one, I resolved this problem by simply updating the firmware on the router. I'm guessing that some Windows Vista update caused an incompatibility and when the computer and the router were rebooted after the power outage, the incompatibility was activated.

View 5 Replies View RelatedTwo vista home premium computers, desktop and laptop, are connected to a private network(Netgear router). Both can use internet through router and dsl modem. The two computers cannot communicate with each other. Each shows up on the other's full map, but not in the list of computers and devices. Network discovery, file sharing, public file sharing, printer sharing, media sharing are on, password protected sharing is off. Also Desktop prints to wireless printer, laptop can not. Laptop has drivers installed from disk, not over network from desktop since they do not communicate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have some old hardware with an RS232 (9 pin) connection to my notebook. I have downloaded a driver for the Serial to USB converter, and my Vista Enterprise OS seems happy with it. However, the hardware only allows communication with COM ports 1 to 4, and as far as I can judge my USB ports are 8, 9 and 10. Can I renumber these ports to make communication possible, or is there another way of doing this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust recently purchased a Lexmark X3550 (which is Vista Certified [for what it's worth]) ... At any rate, after installing the software (trying everything except installing it using compatibility mode) I can only print a test page by right clicking on the printer choosing "Run as administrator" and clicking properties. From here I can print a test page without any problems.
However, if I simply right click the printer and select properties I cannot print a test page. And I can't print anything else either. Any attempts result in a "Cannot Communicate with Printer" message that tells me the USB cable isn't connected or the printer is turned off (which it obviously isn't).
Furthermore, the computer in question only has one account configured on it and it's configured as an administrator. All of the settings under the security tab (under properties) are set to allow. Also, I was able to get the printer installed on my system so I know it's not the printer or cable ....But some crazy Vista setting that is differnt on the two machines.
I have a Lexmark printer which prints fine from my login as I am the admin. Normal users get the message "cannot communicate with printer" when they try to print.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I have to use windows mail or can my computer be set to default to yahoo email like my old one was?

I will be running a PC with Vista Ultimate. I noticed that it has IIS services like FTP and a web server? I used to run a simple web server with WinXPPro. it is easy to get set up? I just want a simple web server and possibly a FTP server running.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am staying with family temporarily after selling my home. I kept my roadrunner account to retain my email addresses until I find a new home. I am hooked up to their internet, Verizon FIOS, thru a wireless connection. I am receiving my mail in Windows mail, but I can't seem to get the outgoign configured to send on their server. I entered the smtp server, outgoing.verizon.net and set it for authentication using their email and password but that doesn't work.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI only get this problem on two wireless networks, either the one at my home, or the one in my University house. I get intermittent internet, it cuts out, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, and the only way to get it back is by resetting the router, and running a diagnose + repair from Network and Sharing Centre and then by Resetting the Wireless Router, which doesn't always fix the problem. Sometimes I get a "Windows cannot connect to DNS Server" error, and sometimes it just fixes itself.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I tried to install VMWare Server when I came across a very big problem. It has 4 drivers that weren't installed b/c Vista x64 requires that they be signed. Is there a way around this, or am I just not allowed to have VMWare Server? If it's not possible, I'm open to other alternatives. Assuming it's free like VMWare Server
View 6 Replies View Relatedi have this USB Server made by Elite Silicon its basically a 4 Port USB Server. I can install it and use it fine on XP but on my vista machine it detects it and installs the software and can see the devices in the software supplied how ever i cannot connect to it and it brings up the following error:
USB Server Bus does not exist. Please uninstall the USBServer and reinstall it. I have done this but its made no difference. I dont know if it just doesnt like vista or doesnt like it as im using a 64bit version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find some better drivers for this. As vista doesnt seem to be able to find any. All the files on the cd that come with it are in one MSI which i cant extract them out of either.
As you may have noticed we are having major server issues ATM. I never expected this much traffic and tbh the server just cant cope. I will continue to try to sort it out for the next few hours but if I cant I will switch the site to my backup linux server as this windows box just doesnt seem upto the job.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know that this is a popular topic, I've read all the solutions I can find but I'm still stumped. I am using Vista to connect to my work network via a vpn to our ISA 2007 server. When connected to the VPN, NSLOOKUP works but all other programs (like PING and IE) can not resolve the address of our internal servers.
I have coded a connection specific DNS sufix. I can verify that IPCONFIG shows the two work DNS servers. NSLOOKUP does see the work DNS server as the default. I do have the 'use remote gateway' option checked in my VPN connector.
Yet, when I connect to the VPN I lose all ability to do DNS lookups for everything execpt NSLOOKUP. (This is somewhat resonable since my ISP's DNS server will not respond to DNS requests that do not originate on their network. If I could connect to them, the work DNS servers would also supply addresses from the Internet.)......
I do not know which is my outgoing server for live mail,so I can not send anything.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi am having problems in resolving a standing issue: our building is split into two parts each with its own router. the routers given generic IP as follows
192.168.9.255 and 192.168.11.255
we have a NAS server running windows 2003 server hooked on to the router 192.168.11.255 - its IP is 192.168.11.21 ... all the systems hooked to the same router are able to 'see' the NAS server and transact with it. (vista, linux, os x - all of them)
however, on the other side, the windows vista systems connected to 192.168.9.255 do not see the NAS server. Linux systems on this subnet can again see as well as connect to it, so can os x systems. eventhough vista cannot see the server, ping works with the server fine from these vista systems too.
I need a program which can turn my computer into an FTP server. It should be freeware preferably and not with a lot of interfaces and icons there and then...
