Getting Error 0x80070002 Durring Backup
			Oct 14, 2009
I have Windows 7 Pro (through MSDNAA), and I'm trying to get Backup and Restore working. When I try to do a backup, I get "The system cannot find the file specified. Error code: 0x80070002". I tried doing CHKDSK on both the FROM drive and the TO drive. I tried changing what I wanted backed up (tried a completely different folder), and changed the drive I was backing up to. I ran SFC, and it found no integrity violations. I tried creating an asr.log file, but the file won't appear. I also took a look at my ProfileList, and that's fine. Those are all the ideas I've found around the internet and these forums. Would anyone have any other idea of what could be wrong, or how I could go about troubleshooting this?

I cannot make a backup with Vista Home Premium 32bit. Whenever I try, I get this nondescriptive error: 0x80070002 and Vista claims it cannot find some file (But it doesn't say which one.) Also trying to adjust 'automatic backup' results in the same error. I cannot change anything in my backupsetting, I always get this error. So I cannot start a backup by hand, nor run automatic backup. This has been like this for months. My system has a RAID1 SATA array. I try to backup to an external USB drive (Lacie, formatted NTFS with enough diskspace). Is Vista backup broken beyond repair on my machine?

A couple of days I did a stupid thing. Thinking it would free some diskspace I deleted "WindowsSoftwareDistribution" folder after rebooting I noticed that Windows update is not using Microsoft update service anymore, instead it reverted to Windows update service.

I clicked on the "Get updates for more software" link button, I was directed into Microsoft update website. unfortunately right after the "Review the license agreement" page I got the 0x80070002 error on Microsoft update, so I tried going to Windows update instead on IE but I also got an error there. When I tried checking for updates on My computer it worked like a charm (only Windows update not Microsoft update).

So I googled the error (since Microsoft website was no help at all) I found a couple of solutions Deleting the content of "WindowsSoftwareDistributionDataStore" then starting Windows update. And that was no help at all. I reverted the content of the folder "WindowsSoftwareDistribution" as it was before I started missing with it. And that was no help at all..............

I recently added some new hardware to my 6 month old computer (2x2 gigs of ram and a 1T hard drive). I had my computer off and unplugged, added the ram and hard drive, then plugged my computer back in. I started my computer and while Vista was loading I all of a sudden got a BSOD saying: Stop: C000021a {fatal system error} The initial session processor system terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0Xc0000001 0X00100490) The system has been shut down After a few more tries of starting it normally, I tried it once with safe mode and it stopped loaded at "crcdisk.sys" and after a bit it would BSOD to the same screen After starting it up again I selected the option to run the comouter with a previous setting that had a succesful boot, and it went to an error saying that the NLS data was missing or corrupt with an error saying "0Xc0000225"

After I went back to the screen where you have the option to start in safe mode or normal mode, and it said at the top that Windows had failed to load and that if it was due to a hardware change to put in the Vista CD and click on fix my computer, so I tried that. After it tried to fix itself it said that it couldnt automatically fix it. I tried doing a system restore to several differnt points which all didnt work because the system restore couldnt find the file "0X80070002" If anyone has a solution to help me I would be very grateful. I was thinking that I could try re-installing vista, but I dont want to lose all of my personal files, so could I just install vista on my other hard drive, look on my original hard drive, and from there move all of my personal files?

I receive an error when trying to run the complete windows backup. The full error is "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (0x80070424). Please check your system configuration and try again." I have used this on different machines and has worked fine. I could not fine were it needs to be reinstalled from. Is it not part of the OS?.

I keep being told by Windows Vista 32bit Family edition that there isn't enough space to back up my data (I'm using the Vista standfard backup scheduler) error code 0x80070070. But I'm backing up C: to a 1.5tera external disk which is almost empty. Disk C is a 320gig disk with 23 gig still free. So what could be the problem? I am sure that the external disk has over 1 terabyte free.

I am using firefox and up until yesterday my backup and restore always worked perfectly. Now it refuses to backup and has erased all restore points, saying I have error 0x81000202, which means my volume shadow copy doesn't work.

Prior to reinstalling my Vista due to some troubles I made a backup on my F: drive. Having now reinstalled Vista I try and 'Restore'. From Windows Backup I get "There was an unexpected error: Backup has not been set up on this computer. An administrator must first create a backup before you can restore files (0x810000EE)Backup will now close. However if I look on my F drive I see my backup set and date made.

The C drive is the drive that hold all my programs, the D drive is for extra backup. Yesterday my laptop was showing me an error saying I'm low on memory. I thought that to be odd as I haven't really installed anything. So I uninstalled programs or software that I didn't need or used. Today no matter what I uninstall, and that has been quite a bit, the error keeps popping up saying that I have no memory left. Then it showed me I had 18 MB left and I went back to work. Within a short period of time, I suddenly had no memory left.

I want to backup my emails in Win Mail (Vista home premium) - all of them so theres hundreds of them in dozens of folders I have created. So I go file - export - messages, select a format, select an EMPTY folder on my 1TB external drive, then try to export. I either get an error message telling me that some files may be corrupt, or that the destination folder may be too small. Or if I select just a tiny folder to export, it says export successful, but it only exports ONE email - the top one in the list I think? I really dont think I have corrupted files here - any folder I select to export seems to have a problem... as my motherboard is flakey, and I want to do the backup ASAP before it 'flakes' again!

When I went to do a complete PC restore I am told form the Help info on VISTA Ultimate to restart my computer, push F8 and choose the 'repair' option to run the restore. WHen I do this I get the safe mode options, debugging mode etc etc but there is no 'repair' mode. How do I get to the repair mode??

I have a 720GB internal drive that I've maxed out with automated weekly backups. I have another drive with a lot of space, and my question is, can Vista backup be set to continue the existing backup onto an additional drive. In other words, the backup files would be spread over two drives?

I always use vista complete backup (Disk Image) to backup both my hard disks, but I am a bit confused as to the restore options. Basically, I have a sneaky suspition that one of the drives is going to fail in the near future, so I backup quite regularly, but when I replace it, I want to get a bigger drive, as it's only a 150gig raptor, and I really would prefer a 500 or 1TB 7200rpm drive for storage.
Can vista restore the files I backed up on D: (the 150gig) to a new D: which would be a large disk ? If it can, could I also do the same for C: which is where vista is located? If that doesn't work,

I've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.

A few days ago I saw I had 11 updates ready to be installed. 3 of them were successful 7 were not. The unsuccessful were Office 2007:
KB946974 (Excel)
KB946691 (Office)
KB947801 (Office)
KB950378 (Office)
KB951808 (Office)
KB950114 (Publisher)
KB950113 (Word)
I received an error: Error details: Code 57A. I tried multiple times to install, all with the same error. I did try downloading the update to my desktop, and install with the option "run as administrator...no luck. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Windows analyzed and suggests defragging but should I defrag the backups? The suggestion to defrag is not for my primary hard drive.

I'm concerned my system may crash and I have no back up and recovery disk or Vista installation disk. I was told I could order one from the manufacturer but I'm wondering if there is a way to create one after setup. I have a XP Home Edition I suppose I could use but I would rather create a Vista backup, if possible.

I kept on getting a bootmgr message so I just reverted back to Vista Home premium 64-bit and I only have 191 GB free of 580 GB. I believe most of it is in the backup in C drive but I can't delete any of it. Its keep saying "This folder is shared with other people. If you delete this folder, it will no longer be shared. Continue" and when I click continue it says the same thing. Then when I click continue again it says "destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action". How do I delete it?

I use an external hard drive for backups, and I back up once a week. One of the old backups allows the restoration of a document that I want permanently deleted from my system. I wanted to delete the backup for that date to eliminate that possibility, and I deleted the backup's folder in the external hard drive (disk F, but Vista's "Backup and Restore Center" still allows the backup for that date and the restoration of the file I want permanently deleted. I can't find the backup's folder in Windows.

How can I delete the old backup from Vista's "Backup and Restore Center"? If that's not possible, how can I prevent the restoration of the file I want permanently deleted?
