In the wife's Vista when I click on some box when I try to access some of the folders (Does not matter which ones or why I want to look at them) I get message that I do not have permission to even though I am set up as the administrator. First question is why and second question is is there a way to access them or look in them for whatever reason?
View 6 RepliesI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.

I have enabled Network Discovery, File Sharing, Printer Sharing and Password
Protected sharing on both machines. (I have also tried with the firewall turned off). The problem is that I can only access shares on the notebook from the
desktop. I am logged on to both machines as an administrator with the same user name.
I have four networked computers, three of them run Vista and the fourth runs XP Pro. I can see every Vista computer on each Vista computer, but cannot access them. File sharing is enabled on all of them. The XP computer does not show up in the network places window on any of the Vista computer, nor does it's IP address show up on my IP scanner. The XP computer can see one of the Vista computers (not all), and it, too, has sharing enabled.
Three of the computers, two of my Vista computers & my XP computer, run Kaspersky IS 2009. The third still runs a trial version of NAV 2009. My router is a DLink XTreme N Gigabit router. I was told that this problem stems from firewall configurations, or lack thereof, on each computer. I am unsure as how to rectify it. I would like to be able to access data between all of the computers.
I have a desktop running XP Home SP2, and a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I would like to access the DVD-ROM drive on the latop from the desktop. I have successfully shared my desktop resources with the laptop, but not vice versa. Both computers are on the same Workgroup. I have turned off Password protected sharing and shared the DVD-ROM drive in the Folders window. Network Discovery and File Sharing are on.
When I try to access the laptop from my desktop through Windows Explorer>My Network Places>Microsoft Windows Network>"workgroup name">"Laptop name" I get a window that says "'laptop name' not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."
I'm not sure the best way to ask this. I have searched for the answer and asked Yahoo live and have not gotten anywhere. Here's my situation. I had a notebook computer that I bought and I installed ypops so that I could get my yahoo mail in the new Windows mail program. It went crazy and downloaded 400 of my emails from my yahoo account, which deleted them from there for good, before I could stop it. Well, I sent that computer back because it had a million problems. Now, I have a law suit going on with a company that I paid to customer make some furniture and they are not producing it. My attorney wants copy's of correspondence. Most of those emails were downloaded via ypops from Yahoo into Windows mail on the other laptop that I forgot to back-up or forward to this computer or any other....
Are those emails out there somewhere. Can I set up windows mail now on this computer and somehow have those there. I did not delete them. I guess, in essence I am hoping they still exist "somewhere in cyber space." And if so, how do I set up windows mail now in order to get the same results. I would have to use ypops again I suppose but I am hoping someone has a magic answer.
I have two reg user accounts and i changed one to an administrator account that I didn't want to use regularly, but when I try to do certain things it ask for a password, but when I put my password in it says "wrong password' or something like that. I know that is the right password; so I try in safe mode it say "The user has not been granted the requested login type at this computer. Also the account that I created will not show up when I restart my computer, so I can't login using that account.

I don't know exactly what happened, I probably mashed the touch pad. Anyway, now I can't find the files anymore. I've tried running a search but it has come to no avail. How do I find my files? If it makes any difference the files were on a memory stick.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor the past while (I'm not entirely sure how long), I've been seeing tons of CAB files in my Downloads folder. Most of them are titled something like "Mar2008_d3dx9_37_x64," which leads me to believe that they're drivers of some sort, but I have no idea where they've come from. There are dozens of them, to the point where I no longer use my Downloads folder because it's so much easier to find things when I put them on my Desktop. I've read that Vista doesn't really use CAB files anymore, but I'm hesitant to get rid of them for fear of something bad happening.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure exactly what happened but as of right now I can not located the Documents folder...It used to be there but now its not. If I try to open a document, say from word or something like that, it'll tell me the file is not there bla bla bla. If I try to click on the link off of the "start" menu it asks me what software I want to use to open it...*blink* I poked around and located a File that is called "Documents" with 0 bytes...is there someway that I turned a Folder into a File? Any ideas of what I can try to restore the documents/file? I did try doing a system restore from a few days ago but it keeps encountering errors...I'm not having much luck on the computer front this week.

I decided to uninstall it but I could not do this because it does not apear in the programs and features list so I tried to delete its folder from C:Program Files but I could not so then I turned my computer in the safe mode and I could delete its folder. Then the problems start to begin: the security center can not see the installed antivirus, when I try to uninstall or install the programs I get: (access is denied contact the administrator) although I am an administrator. Even i could not rename my folders in the C hard disk. also when I try to open system restore I get (There was unexpected error: class not registerd 0x80040154). I do not know if it is virus or a mistake I made by deleting that program.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running OL2007 on a Vista Ultimate machine. All has been well for the past year, but lately, I have run into the problem described below. It seems to happen most often when I address an e-mail to multiple recipients. It shows stuck in the outbox, although it appears that most of the time it does get sent. I often get a message to the effect that "Sent Items folder is full, delete some of the messages" (it doesn't have any more messages in it than usual, I purge them regularly).
Then, I find I can't delete the offending file. I get a simple "Folder is full" message. Also, I cannot delete any files from my deledted folder I now have 2090 files stuck in my deleted files, 6 emails stuck in my outbox. I cannot rely on sending any email from my home computer and now am relying on my lotus notes at work. I have contaced Dell - no help. I have observed all information in the discussion groups, The Intel IT people who are my neighbors have ried to address this. I am one of many experienceing this problem - even Intel staff have the same uncorrectable problem. Could Microsoft work on this issue ASAP as it is forcing me to use other email addresses and doesn't allow me to continue to work form home....

Well I want that after the administrator installation it creates a files and folders and if I run that application logged as user I dont want that vista copies my files to VirtualStore folder...I want the same path where all the users can write. For specific folders and files, I use the AKGBackup Program and it has worked well for me, especially since it is so easy to use and I can access any backed up folder or file with just windows explorer. I don't need a lot of features. In the very near future, I plan to purchase a new Dell computer with Vista Business Edition. any simple folder/file backup programs (Vista compatible) that is similar to the AKGBackup program. I should note that the AKGBackup program web site does not indicate if it works with Vista (the last time I checked). I should also note that I have researched a bit about windows Live OneCare and it appears to be somewhat lacking. Imaging, I currently use the Symantec Livestate Recovery Desktop Edition for my current computer and plan to purchase the ShadowProtect Desktop Edition for my new computer.

I tried using a tweak to move my "user files" folder's to "my documents" folder left from the XP OS which was on another partition on my hard drive, it didn't work well so I reversed everything. Now every time I click on "contacts", the "my documents" folder opens up which now shows as a shortcut in my Vista's "user files". My Contacts folder (which is empty) is still in the "user files" folder. However, I cannot open Contacts by a shortcut or within the Windows mail.
I checked the Contacts shortcut in the Start Menu and it points to ""%Program Files%Windows Mailwab.exe", so it seems that wab.exe is messed up. Is there a registry tweak or a similar trick to correct this?
