Find The Font Folder, So That I Can Copy A Font Onto A Disk

Feb 23, 2009

I am trying to find the font folder, so that I can copy a font onto a disk to put onto my laptop. In other versions of Windows its C:windowsfonts, which it appears to be in Vista, but once in C:Windows I cannot find the fonts folder. If I go through the control panel to the fonts folder it will not let me copy the front from there. It will let me right click the font to copy, but not let me paste onto a memory stick. I have already got into Folder options and made sure that Hidden files are visible.

Burning Cd And Scanner Is Not Supported

Apr 20, 2010

I have been trying to burn a clutch of photographs to a cd for the first time on my Dell Laptop using Vista. I am using old cds (CD-RW) that I know are free and I have been using them to transfer photographs from an older PC so I know that laptop is able to read the cds. I have had to use the old PC to scan the photographs as my scanner is not supported by Vista.

However, when I come to burn the photographs I get a message that windows cannot complete the format or it hangs after taking forever to try to complete the format. I have to admit I do not understand the process and thought I would be able to drag and drop as I have done with a flash drive. I did have Nero on my old PC but I cannot use that as I cannot get the photographs back to the PC from the laptop. I am fairly sure the old PC does not support a flash drive. Also the old PC does not have an Ethernet port.

AVG 7.5 Free Edition Not Supported Any More

Jul 3, 2008

I've been using AVG on one of my computers (with OS 2000 prof) and have loved it (coupled with Zone Alarm). My parents just got a new HP desktop computer with Vista Home Premium installed. I installed the free edition AVG 7.5 and free edition Zone Alarm and everything worked fine. Then AVG sent out notices that AVG 7.5 free edition would not be supported any more (definition updates). I left 7.5 on and downloaded 8.0 thinking it would update over it. But that failed. So, I uninstalled 7.5 (admittedly, I did not turn it off first. Then I downloaded and installed 8.0 free edition. At this point, it seemed to work just fine. I had to uninstall it a week or so later (we won't go into those details) for reasons other than it not working properly.

I then proceeded to download 8.0 free edition once again. So, here is where it all went bad: It downloaded fine, it did its first update fine, it restarted itself fine. However, when I shut down the computer and then put it back on, Vista got caught in a loop - getting as far as the Windows Password/Login menu and then looping back to the initial start up process. The only way to get out of it was to use the F8 function and choosing Use Last Good Configuration. I then turned off AVG and Vista still got caught in the loop. I had to completely uninstall AVG for the computer to shut down and then start up normally. I really hate my parents' computer being vulnerable with no anti-virus on it currently. Not sure what to do. AVG will not help me because its a free edition (even though I use other licensed products of theirs) and I've found no help in their user forum.

Update To Newest Drivers, Mode Not Supported

Sep 20, 2009

i shall start from the beginning, went to clean my pc out, as normal, took out my dvi-i adapter, left it on the side.... my boy got hold of it (bless him), couple of pins missing, so i brought a new one off ebay for very cheap talking less than 2 quid (i know !), so while i wait i take out my 7900 GS to clean its fan as its not accessible while in tower.... so the new dvi-i comes , i put card back in, start up and looks ok till i get "mode not supported" on my lcd.. tried few times, no joy.

so card comes out, put vga into onboard, works fine, so monitor seems good. deleted nvidia drivers, switched off put card in, adapter, cables, start up then card installs itself, restart , all good so far, apart from old drivers and crap resolution.. i noticed in my device manager there was no "Monitor Tab", after a brief search, i updated and i now have a Monitor tab and have "Generic PnP monitor" in the section.

Then i update to newest drivers, after i restart i get the message "Mode Not Supported" with H 75.0 hz / V 60.0 hz under it. i tried this with several drivers back to july 2008, still no luck, and tried all resolutions also tried it with my old crt monitor and i get a "frequency" message. so could this be the cheap ass adapter? , my card ?, bit to hard a clean and broke it?

Flash Player Is Not Supported For Playback In A 64-bit Browser

Apr 12, 2007

most sites i go on inc all game sites wont load they say i need a flash player...so i i have tried about 100 times to install using all different links but each time i get a messege which reads.... Flash Player support on 64-bit operating systems. Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser. However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system.

Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We have not yet announced timing or release dates. this is very frustrating as i just can't use the internet hardly at all!!! Do i realy have to wait for the new flash player or is their a way around this?

Windows Defender And Firewall No Longer Supported

Jul 29, 2009

Everytime when I boot up my laptop, the Firewall and Malware Protection under my Windows Security Center section are constantly turned off. I can turn them on manually, but they will occasionally switch back off again. I'm assuming it's some spyware or something, but all my scans have come out clean. Aside from that, another issue in the Malware Protection area is under the Virus Protection section. It shows me the following message: "Windows Live OneCare is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the
program's automatic updating feature for an updated version."

Windows Movie Maker: File Is Not Supported

Aug 23, 2009

My friend with an HP laptop using Vista (version unknown) burned a file named Anniversary Video Final.mswmm onto a DVD_R for me. The file size is 2.89mb (that's mb-not gb). As I expected, my 3 year old Dell running WinXP SP3 won't play the file. The WMM on this machine (v 2.1.4026.4) says the file is not supported. Okay-that's fine...but the XP box could "see" the file. Then I took the disc over to my 1 year old Dell running Vista SP2 (WMM v 6.0.6002.18005). This machine cannot even see the file. I tried typing in the file name and it still won't find it. Yes the drive in the Vista box is a DVD drive-it reads other CDs-DVDs just fine (so far). This same machine while booted in Ubuntu could not read the disc (gave error message "invalid mount option").

Is there any good reason why the XP box could mount the disc and the Vista machine could not? Is it worthwhile to try and burn a copy of the disc on the XP box, or should I ask my friend to burn another disc for me?

Font Sizes

I don't know if anyone can help me, but I was wondering something. I just got this laptop 7 months from a friend. I was wondering why the smallest font size on this thing is only 8? Is there anyway to add any font sizes smaller than 8. I need at least a 6. It is this way for every font. And i have the same problem on my desktop and it's still XP. If anyone could shed some light on this, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Font Size

Jul 29, 2009

I edited the registry and either modified or deleted a line
regarding font size.

Since then all my html messages use size 12 in Windows Mail, Live Mail, or
Yahoo Mail.

I can specify the use of a different size, but as soon as I type anything,
the size reverts to 12.

I can change any other attribute such as face, bold, etc. and they all
work.

I would like to reinstall Windows Mail but I understand that's not possible
as it's inseparable from Vista.

I've run sfc /scannow and there are no problems.

The only solution that seems possible it to fix or replace that registry
line I screwed up.

Font Size Vs DPI?

Jun 20, 2009

is there's an equivalent to XP's Display Font Size in Vista? In XP Display Properties, Appearance tab we can change Font size to Large or Extra Large. This is useful for people who want high resolution desktops but find it hard to read small text (without sitting really close which is bad for eyes). I know there's a DPI setting in Vista just as there is in XP, but it's not the same as Font size.

Font Sizes Had Grown By At Least 100%

It was fine when I turned off the PC, but when I turned it on the next day all the font sizes had grown by at least 100%. I tried to change the size of the font, but that did not work. In reality I would like to get rid of Vista and go back to XP--there I didn't have to worry what it was thinking up to do today
