Directx 10.1 Can't Installed
Jul 8, 2009i have just realized that since installing SP2 i no longer have DirectX 10.1 its reverted to DirectX 10.which was before SP1. Anyone know how i can get 10.1 back?

Sep 12, 2007Im assuming that Vista has come with DirectX10 already installed on it? Correct? I was wondering if I have to install DirectX 9 on my computer as well to get Medieval II to work since it says that DirectX 9 is required?

May 14, 2008I can't get directx 10 to run on any games I play. For example, Team Fortress 2. The option to change which direcx version to use is grayed out, and it's on direct x 9 on both hardware and software.My specs: I'm running Windows Vista home premium (32 bit), and dxdiag confirms DirectX 10 is installed. I have an Intel Core 2 6600, and 4 gigs of ram. The video card I'm running is the MIS Geforce 8800 GTS, updated to the latest drivers (drivers released may 13th 2008). I have dual monitors, the main one running at a 1680 x 1050 resolution, and my secondary running at a 1280 x 1024 resolution. When I set some game options to run at direct x 10, they will fail to load at all. With more and more directx 10 games on the way.

Flight Sim X/DirectX Installation
Dec 31, 2008I got FSX Deluxe today and after running both disks and installing the game I get a notice saying: "Flight Simulator cannot run because the version of Microsoft DirectX(R) installed on your computer is incompatible. Please reinstall DirectX 9.0 by running Flight Simulator Setup, or download the current version from www.microsoft.com/directx."
I have downloaded the November 2008 Update from several websites and I am able to run them and get to the point that it brings up the "Installing Components" screen and then a notice comes up saying: "Setup has detected one or more DirectX component files are in-use by an application. Please exit all applications before running DirectX setup agian." After that it brings up a screen saying that the installation has failed with a "finish" button. I have closed all files and tried agian, restarted my computer and tried, turned my computer all the way off let it sit and read it a story and tried agian, I have combed through the processes in Task Manager and removed any that I believe could have been using DirectX and tried all the combinations above agian.
I am running a Dell Inspiron 1525 with 32 bit Vista Ultimate, and haven't had problems with any other games up to this point (World of Warcraft, Age of Empires, Halo, ect.). I am sorry if this is a repeat thread, I've been all over the place looking for possible answers and haven't found anything.
Corrupted Directx And Crash
Oct 12, 2008My laptop (Hp Pavilion dv6500 Notebook Pc) had a crash yesterday but after shutting it down and restarting it, all seemd to be normal. But today when I wanted to play some Generals I got a nasty suprise. I started up the game and I got a message saying I didn't have the right directx version. This is weird since I've been playing the game for almost a year now on this laptop. Anyway, I thought maybe something got corrupted after the crash. I startend another game just to make sure and it too gave me an error that I didn't had a proper directx version.
So I checked dxdiag and it said I had directx 10 as my latest version, which is what I had before the crash. I've updated all my drivers, reinstalled directx and reinstalled my games but nothing seems to work. I hope someone could point me out a direction that might help me fix this problem. I'm a student I seriously need my games for some relaxation .
Undocumented Directx 9.0c Installation
May 22, 2008I have a brand new latest Intel chipped nVidia SLI PC with Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS. I am trying to update DirectX to 9.0c and get an installation failure which states "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid".
1) Checked that the Cryptographic Services are set to automatic
2) Run DXWebSetup as Administrator
3) Used RegSvr32 across all the crypto DLLs.
4) Unchecked the Certificate check boxes in IE / Tools / Options / Advanced....
I cannot check the validity of the cabinet file certificate as it is probably on-line and I have no idea where it is!! What is frustrating is that all Vista Drivers are signed by my companies Time Stamp Server....maybe the certificate on this cabinet file has expired....anyway - This must be a common problem (judging by the forums) but there is no Microsoft documented solution.
DirectX Update: Failure
Nov 8, 2008There is what looks to be a November 08 update to DirectX, but on three different machines I have not been able to get the dxwebsetup.exe to work. Every time I run the executable I get “Installing components: Initializing…”, then “Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection”. The redistributable is still showing Aug. 08.

Feb 6, 2009Attempted to download Trial version of spore, a error pop up said: "this application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found re-installing the application may fix this problem." couldn't figure out what was wrong (even after choosing the yes option to get the directx 9.0 that it offered) didn't notice a change, yet i didn't do much on my computer at that point (possible problem in spider solitaire) Installed Spore on Computer, said didn't have correct DirectX, clicked yes and went through installation of DirectX9 Didn't have d3dx9_27.dll error pop up again, but believed that somehow downloaded something when tried to fix computer when had problem with trial version (husband's computer had pop up,
he found the dll and added it to spore bin, he hasn't noticed similar problem on his laptop, he has a replica of my computer) Noticed that spider solitaire had major problem. Loaded game and noticed major graphics problem. Also noticed that problem let up a small bit as game continued running. Noticed that rendering of creature "skins" was quite slow. Did system restore to day before trial download. Found that spider solitaire looked like it should. Attempted to start spore, got dll error. Did as husband had done, found dll, put in sporeapp folder. Game started, still have graphics problem. Spider solitaire is screwed up again. I have also attempted to update my drivers (no luck)........
Sound Possible Corrupt DirectX
Mar 23, 2008I've lost the sound on my laptop and I don't know how to get it back. I have an HP Compaq nx9430 with 2 Gigs of RAM. Everything was going great after a clean install of Vista when all of the sudden (I don't know what happened or updated) the sound stopped working. Now, the strange thing about the sound is that I can uninstall everything, get rid of the dlls and .sys files for the drivers. Do a clean install of the sound drivers from HP's website and I can press my mute button to get the icon in the systray to go to mute and back. There are even little "sound waves" coming from the speaker in the systray. However, when I open Mixer, I can see "Speakers" but in the "Applications" groupbox, Windows Sounds and none of my applications come up. Applications is empty - yes, totally missing Has anyone ever run across this before? If so, what did you do to fix it? I'm at my wits end as I can't listen to music on my laptop while I'm at a coffee shop coding anymore!!

May 30, 2009Recently I had to replace my motherboard AND hard drive, so my computer was basically wiped of everything. I saved the files that I could, and moved them, and they work fine. Before this, the sims 2 (and the EP's that I had for it) all worked perfectly. The problem now is that I do not think DX10 is compatible with TS2, despite the fact that "directx 10 is backwards compatible" (which it does not appear to be.) From what I understand, I cannot uninstall DX10. THis is a little ridiculous; no directx software came with my computer, and I had to install it. DX10 is supposed to have all of the DX 9.0c updates, but what if it doesn't? Is there a way or a place that I can put DX 9.0c files into DX10? Is there some way that I can check the DX10 files to make sure what I need is there? IF those are failed options, is there a program that I can install which will uninstall DX10 so that I can install DX 9.0c?

Jul 19, 2009Trying to install a program here. It included a DirectX 9 install which I canceled. Running Vista64 Ultimate here. The program dies on start with an error - d3dx9.dll is not found. The developers website says it needs DX9 and that users of DX10 / Vista need not worry as both 9 and 10 sit side by side in the same install. Can anyone confirm this is correct. I'd prefer to NOT mess with my DX10 configuration.

Nov 10, 2008I have a problem with starting Lineage 2 Interlude on Windows Vista Business x64. After Windows install, and after updates, i installed the Lineage 2 Interlude client and worked at well. BUT after Directx update the client crashed, with this error message.
After this message, the client is started but i can't log in. (Access failed...)
Three reason what may be the source of errors:
- DirectX (redistributable, the newest)
- .Net Framework (2.0 or/and 3.0)
- Visual C++ 2005/2008 Redistributable package x64 (once with 2008 x64 package the client is worked, after Windows restart the problem is was the same).

Mar 23, 2008Decided to replay the whole Myst series, so got the compilation set of parts 1 to 5. Installing on Vista Ultimate x64 (4Gb memory, Nvidia 8800GTX, etc) Myst (masterpiece edition) installs OK (just didn't let it install Quicktime 4 or directX 6 !)Can it really be possible that the original is dated 1993 ? (even this version is 1999)Forgot how little of the screen it used (especially in the middle of a 24"

Random Freezing: Re-installed, Windows, And It Froze After I Installed The Chipset Driver
Mar 30, 2008My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
SP1: Installed Updates It Shows A Windows Defender Update Installed Today
Mar 23, 2008I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Jun 29, 2009let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

Mar 23, 2008I purchased a download of this game from The Adventure Company website. All went well with the install until asked if I wanted to install DirectX 9.0. I chose to knowing that I have DirectX 10 on this system but had the following error message:
"Unble to execute File: C:programflile?can'treadmyownwriting?dreamfalldirectx dxsetup.exe Create process failed; code 740. The requested operation requires elevation." Then, when attempting to run the game, I get a message saying that D3DX9_27.DLL can't be found. The DX9 folder located in the Dreamfall folder is empty.
I uninstalled and reinstalled during which I snooped in the DirectX 9 folder (Dreamfall program files, directx folder) and found the missing .dll file and copied it to an empty folder in my documents prior to asking it to install DX9 of which the install again failed (and the DX folder emptied). I tried pasting the missing .dll into the Dreamfall folder and up came another error message when trying to run the game. I read that one could either paste d3dx9_27.dll into the sys32 folder or download & install DX9 from the Microsoft website but I'm scared to do so in case either of these solutions screws up DX 10.
