I deleted something from my computer (by mistake). I think it was something with the ATI program. Now my desktop is all stretched out. Before, my screen resolution was 1280 x 800, now the highest it will let me set it at is 1024 x 768. Things look stretched out and blurry. Is there something I could download?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi deleted the 'desktop' folder by accident from the My Documents window (or just above my documents folder)...
Now the 'Desktop icon' at the top of the folder list shows a different set of shortcuts/folders (incl. RecycleBin, Network etc etc)... the now 'yellow' desktop folder that is under the 'user' is messed up.
I've attached 2 screen shots because i'm sure my explanation is poor. Anyway, this is driving me crazy - can't figure it out. I've been messing around with it for hours - at one point i had 'desktop' with about 15 'desktop' subfolders......
I deleted some files off my desktop. The data was deleted, but the icons are still there. They now contain "0 bytes". I've tried deleting them, and I get an error message saying that the file cannot be found. I've tried refreshing my desktop. I've tried restarting. I've tried deleting in safe mode. I can't rename them, and I can't move them, because they "can't be found."

It was made for Windows XP, and I was deleting files on my C: Drive to make room. I accidentally deleted a file that took my desktop with it. Now, when I log on, to any user on the computer, there is a black screen with the "My Computer" window up. I've included a picture to show. Minimized windows are irrelevant. I'm just multi-tasking at the moment.

Since I have no need to have all my desktop shortcuts messing up the arrangement of my fave webpages so I went ahead and deleted it. Warning bells should have gone off in me head when File Operations was asking for permission but I persisted. And now all the files that I have kept on my desktop are gone i.e. pics, pdf, resumes!! I have checked the Recycle Bin but they are not there either. I tried using a software that downloaded online -> WinUndelete but it made me more confused.

Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I can't get it to work. I tried running as administrator and no luck. I have a Asus G2 series gaming laptop-OS Vista Home premium 32 bit. The game installed great, but as soon as I click on the shortcut from the desktop it will flicker a black screen and just return me to my desktop. I tried putting my computer in a 800x600 resolustion and still didn't start it.

when they are both connected (wirelessly) via the same network.
I don't find the desktop to be of much use, too many icons take away from the image I choose to display, but I do use the desktop toolbar from the taskbar quite a bit. There are icons that I cannot remove from the desktop toolbar such as the Network & Control Panel icons they won’t leave the toolbar, and I can’t seem to kill the IE icon off for good, either.

The programs work fine... I tried choosing a picture and setting it to a desktop background. Still nothing. Modifying File "C:WindowsWin.ini", section: "windows"
I checked my system32 folder, and for now wininit.exe is there. its size is 95kb. I am afraid if this file got deleted, I wont be able to log-on to windows again. Same thing has happened to my friend in past where Norton deleted some crucial file in System32 folder, then whole system needed to be reformatted and reinstalled. I cant understand if the file that is still present in my system32 folder will stay or be deleted later as the utility said. what can I do now to protect myself from situation that might arise if this file got deleted?

The recylcing bin on the desktop was deleted. I'm not sure how to restore it, and can only make shortcuts of it on the desktop. I can't empty it if it is a shortcut. How can I put the recycling bin back on the desktop so that it is not a shortcut?

When I try to connect to it using my Win7 netbook, it does not offer any opportunity to enter a password, then it thinks for about 1 minute, then issues afailure message (I am writing this from memory at home, so I can't recall the exact wording of the error message). IIRC, I had tried to connect at some point in the past and may have entered an incorrect password. I would like to delete the network entirely and ensure that Windows is starting from scratch to connect to this network. However, I can't find anywhere that the network can be deleted. Nothing about this network appears in the Network and Sharing Centre.

I easily deleted the latter, then I rebooted and tried to delete the former. Thus I hit "DEL", and deleted the folder (some 10 gb). Thereafter I rebooted, but... windows.old is still there on the root! Thus I tried to delete it, but the prompt said (I approximate a "translation" from italian to English) "impossible to find the item; it is no more present in c:. please check the item's path and try again" OMG! But how! I see it! It is still there! What can I do please? I want to remove it at all costs; it is like a challenge, 'cause I feel very frustrated that I have installed a OS behaving such a way!
