Data Transfer

Oct 7, 2009

I have a HP desktop running Vista premium. I "had" an Emachine that ran XP, but it died. (I think the power supply went out) Whatever the case I am not going to get the XP computer fixed, but I do want some files off the old harddrive out of it. How do I do that? I'm hearing of a USB adapter of some sort that will do it...is that true? I went on Ebay, saw some USB's but am not sure they will do what I need for them to do.

Cannot Transfer The Data

May 2, 2009

I got as far as connecting the transfer cable on both computers. The action lights flickered on both for about 15min and then they stopped. I waited for another half an hour but nothing further was happening, so I eliminated the transfer Windows. I found that no data has been transferred although both have Win.Vista Business.

No Data Transfer

Sep 7, 2008

I have 2 vista and 2 xp mechines on my network. When I transfer files between my 2 vista mechines I see transfer rates between 5 and 7 mgs, but when transfering from vista to xp I'm lucky if I see 1 mg. I mainly noticed it because I just set up a xp for file backup and its not running a firewall (not even windows firewall) and the data transfer is taking forever.

External Hard Drive For 64: Transfer Data

I wanted to buy an external hard drive to transfer my family pics and vids from my XP box to my Vista box. Been reading about some external hard drives not working with Vista x64. I've also read that I might ned to re-install Vista with the external hard drive connected. Can anyone recommend an external hard drive that will work with Vista x64? Need at least 250 gb hard drive but maybe around 500-750 would be optimal (wife takes lots of pics/vids of the kid ).

Transfer Data From Hard Drive To New Computer?

Jun 26, 2008

I went to Fry's to have my computer (HP Windows XP) looked at because it wouldn't turn on. I was told that my mother board was fried. So, I bought a new computer (HP pavillion with vista) and a hard drive enclosure and the guys at Fry's put my hard drive in it and told me that I would just need to hook it up, turn it on and drag and drop my files. I've tried that but it's not working.

Vsta Network: The Vista PC Will Transfer Data To WHS Or XP With Very Low Bandwidth

Apr 3, 2009

I am running a small home network. Configuration: My DSL WLAN router Zyxel Prestige 660HW-67 acts also as a 4-Port switch with 100 Mbits/s. Attached to this router are

1. Vista Business x86 SP1 with RTL8139/810x-Family onboard
2. Dell T105 server running Windows Home Server SP2 (Windows 2003)
3. Windows XP SP3 using WLAN

Problem: The Vista PC will transfer data to WHS or XP with very low bandwidth (150 kbits/s) The other way round will work with more than 10 Mbits/s from the WHS. Transfering data betwee WHS and XP will work fine in bot directions. So it looks like Vista is blocking outbound traffic. The Vista PC also runs F-Secure Internet Security 2009. But te firewall allows all traffic in my home domain (mask 255.25.255.0). I uninstalled the network adapter, installed the newest driver from Realtek but no change in the low outbound traffic.

FileCopy/progressbar, Data Transfer Rate Jumps From 16Mbps Down To KBs

Jun 9, 2009

I would like to ask you to Google for FileCopy/progressbar problem and see how Earth is filled with us - morons. My progress Bwr keeps dancing left & right, calulating time remaining (always lying by a huge marging unlike WinXP), but it's not too important. Important is that data transfer rate jumps from 16Mbps down to KBs periodically as it scans thru multipel files. All it can fast is copying a SINGLE large file, even that estimating time remaining and progress bar are not as good as in WinXP

This is one of the 500 admitted bugs Microsoft admits to in Vista and its a beauty. I hate to keep harping on the same point, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how such a basic function not just gets screwed up, but WHY Microsoft would ship Vista with such a obvious bug in it. It totally trashes their reputation. Oh wait, we're talking Microsoft. We know their reputation. Ship and fix later. Everybody knows whatever version of Windows we're talking about WAIT for the service pack before most of the bugs are out.

SP1 Causes Continuous Network Reconnects

Mar 23, 2008

SP1 causes a cycle of connects and disconnects on my wired network connection. Problem disappears when I uninstall SP1 but reappears when I reapply SP1. My connection is through an Intel Pro/1000 CT chipset on an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard going to a Netgear WGR614 v7 router. Problem remains even if I uninstall my Avast antivirus software. Just using Vista's native firewall. The network icon in the system tray cycles through a yellow warning sign going on and off. I've tried the repair connection option in Vista but it doesn't find any problem. I uninstalled the driver for the card hoping a reinstall would rebuild and fix the problem but it made no difference. I'm using Microsoft's drivers for the NIC chipset. I power cycled the router but that made no difference. But as I said, uninstalling sp1 restores a normal network connection. An ipconfig when the connection is good shows an IP in proper range for the DHCP from my router. At the disconnect, yellow warning sign, it shows no IP. I've attached entries from the system log that illustrates what happens in a reconnect cycle. I deleted the XML event data for brevity but can add it to this thread if it's necessary.

Blue Screen In Continuous Loop

May 8, 2008

I have already posted to the "Help" boards Toshiba sends their customers to for
assistance, but feel there will more than likely be a faster reply (let alone a reply period) related directly to my need. Here is the situation: Am writing concerning my Toshiba laptop, Satellite A135-S4527, currently running with Vista Home Premium. Have had previous short bouts with blue screen errors, but could always find the fix quickly and get back to normal. Not this time, can't even get to Windows for any length of time beyond (literally) seconds before it repeats the cycle of "Did not shut down correctly ... choose a mode" ad infinitum like some horrible computer version of "Groundhog's Day."

I was in the midst of finishing the installation of the latest Vista update, and had also been installing "Alcohol 120" when the blue screen appeared with the following message [thank heavens for digital cameras since this flashes and is gone in a flash]: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:........

Windows Easy Transfer - Program Crashes During Transfer

Jun 15, 2008

I am attempting to transfer files & settings using the Belkin Easy Transfer cable from an XP computer to a Vista computer. All starts well by showing that the two computers are connected. But after finding the files and settings and providing the amount of data to be transferred, it starts gathering information but then shows a flashing disconnection icon in the upper right of both computers' transfer windows and freezes. This happens at a different place each time, but early in the procedure (after about 10 minutes). Would anyone have any advice? I have done everything by the book, as far as I'm aware.

DATA PROTECTION Fraud Antivirus: Data Protection Is A Counterfeit Application Which Pretends To Be A Legitimate Security Tool

May 15, 2010

Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.

This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. Vista 32 Bit Can Transfer The OS 64 Bit

Feb 21, 2009

so my laptop is pretty much dead, wont be using it ever again. And it has Vista Home Premium 32Bit on it. I have decided to make a desktop instead, cheaper in my opinion, and I don't really need a laptop anymore. So i was wondering if i can transfer the OS to my desktop. I heard you just have to type in the Key, and if it does not go through you activate it by phone. Is this true? Can i do this. It would in turn save me around 150$. Also if this does work can i really upgrade it to a 64Bit for 10$ or something?
