I have allowed someone access to connect to my home wireless by giving them the wireless password. however i now want to remove this password from their computer so that they can no longer connect. their computer is windows vista.
View 5 Repliesa friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I
can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...
I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHave a speedstream modem with wireless WEP enabled open. I can connect to this gateway through all other devices (Iphone, HTC etc) except my HP Laptop with Vista OS. I have manually configured the wireless network through vista and placed the WEP code and connection name in settings, but a dialogue box keeps opening asking for extra information. No other devices need this to connect to my modem, why does vista keep asking for this info which doesn't exist and how to I fix it?

I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a "Lenovo SL500" thinkpad laptop, Running Vista Business 32bit. And a costum built Desktop PC running Vista Ultimate. Both password protected, but with the same password. I would like to transfer files vire the network. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the Reciving computer was not password protected. All I would do is open "Network" located in the start menu and then do the folowing "Network\". To find computers name: open start menu, right click on "computer" and press "properties" But because the reciving computer is password protected I can only see "Printers" I need security so I cannot remove passwords OR open my computer up for file sharing!
The only other options I have got are: Bluetooth: This Ok but is slow and you are needed on both computers for accepting, entering passes etc. (I would preferrer not to!) Server: We have a Server but this means uploading to the server(could take ages), Then Downloading the server(thats double the time). (Again I would preferrer not to!) Memory sticks: Basically a simaller problem to the server! (Once again I would preferrer not to!) So basically what I am asking is: Does anyone know an application/progam that deals with network file sharing (That will do what I am asking for) Or a hidden option in vista to allow this Or something?
ComputerA, running Windows XP 32-bit has a shared folder in read-only mode called SFiles with a sign-on of CAShare and a password of ZXJK1122. ComputerB, running Windows Vista 64, in the Network entry of Windows Explorer shows ComputerA. When I expand ComputerA I can see the SFiles shared folder undereath and when I try to click on the folder it asks me for a sign-on and password. I answer with CAShare and ZXJK1122, and it asks me if I want to save this information and I say yes. Subsequently, when I click on the SFiles shared folder it gives me read-only access to the files in the shared folder. This works excellently.
Subsequently, on ComputerA, I decide to change the password for the sign-on of CAShare from ZXJK1122 to NPPP345T. Now on ComputerB when I try to click on the SFiles shared folder in Windows Explorer I get a message of: "Windows can not access \ComputerASFiles with an error code of Ox80070005, Acces is denied."
That's fair enough, since I changed the password for the sign-on. So I want Windows Explorer on ComputerB to ask me for a new password, and I will reply NPPP345T and now have read-only access again which is fine. But it does not do this but repeatedly denies me access each time I click on the shared folder. Surely there must be some way to tell Window Explorer to get a new password from me for this share. How do I do that ? It seems impossible that Vista will keep me from accessing shared folders of another computer on my network simply because it has decided that I can not change the signon/password to the other computer's shares.
I am trying to install a printer on machine 2 from machine 1. The printer is shared. Same workgroup The same logon information on both machines, user and password the same. When I log onto machine 1 it won't let me print. It tells me I don't have access or the print spooler is not running.. If I go to network places on machine 1 and click on machine 2 it asks for the user name and password. I enter the same information I entered when I logged onto machine 1 and after this I have connectivity and am able to print.

Each time I access to a network folder, I input Username and password. When I restart my computer I have to input these infos again. Under Manage network password, logon credentials are not stored, and if I try to manaully add a stored credential, Windows access credentials is grayed out.

I would like to back up my laptop and setup automatic backup on a weekly basis to this drive like I have done with my desktop. However, the damned thing keeps asking me for a username and password that I did NOT set up on the computer that has the hard drive connected directly into it. When I use my Windows username and password for the computer the drive is connected to, it tells me it is invalid. So what, exactly, is the password if that isn't it? I have password protection turned OFF on my network, so it shouldn't even ask me for one.

I connect my laptop (Thinkpad X60S on Vista Business) to a WRT54G linksys wireless router and let's say my SSID is HOME.
My problem is this: When I try to connect Vista sees 3 and sometimes 4 networks of the same SSID, e.g. HOME, HOME (2), HOME (3) and HOME (4). It is the same network. Why is this happening and how do I solve it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, running Vista Business, to a wireless network set up on a desktop running XP(sp2). I have previously connected the lappie to similar networks without problem. However... The network shows up as 'available'. When I click on 'connect', it says it can't, because it is not automatically configured to do so. So I manually set up a profile for the connection under the list of sutomatic connections.
It then said it couldn't connect because the security settings were wrong. Now, if you hover the mouse over the network in 'available connections', it says the security type is WEP-PSK. This is not an option under the security types listed under connection properties. I've tried using all the WEP options available, with no success. The thing always says that the security details are wrong. Incidentally, as an experiment, I tried disabling all the security on the network and then connecting. It said it had connected, but with 'limited connectivity', and wouldn't let me access the network. Don't know if that problem is connected...
I have a desktop running XP with a Canon MP160 hardwired to it. I also have a laptop running Vista. When I first hooked up my router to the desktop computer with XP, verything was working fine. I could share files back and forth between the two computers and I could print over the wireless network. But for some reason now I can't print. Although it finds all the networks available in the area they all display without any green bars in the speed bars. It seems to have no wireless power. Well I was online and a myspace link popped up, after closing it the same link popped up over and over again as it has before, so as I have done before I restarted my computer. When I restated my computer the network icon had an 'x' where the earth would be if the wireless was on. I went to click on the icon and it wouldn't open. I had to right click to log into my wireless. I wasn't so worried until my computer was telling me 'yes i was connected to my wireless' but the icon was saying 'no you're not'. I went to the properties, and removed the icon then replaced it. Same thing. I even shut down my computer, waited, restarted. Same thing.

I have been reading alot of articles on the internet concerning security, and most suggest several things, one being encryption, The others are enabeling static ip address and wireless mac address filtering. I contacted Verizon and asked them to help me secure this connection to my laptop and they enabled WEP and assigned a key.
