I am using Vista Home Premium 64bit and Trend Micro anti virus+ anti spyware. I was playing 2moons for about three weeks before this happened. Changes that have occured include me being made an admisinstrator and UAC being turned off. I started playing 2moons and after a minute it froze up. Trend Micro alerted me that a program was trying to make unauthorized changes and it didn't help when I allowed or didn't allow said change. It now happens everytime I run 2moons but only that program. I tracked it to my LocalTemp folder and its name fluxuates. Its called yvnta.sys and will move around the first three-four letters each time it tries to change something. I scanned it with TM but it found nothing. its about 10 kb. Is this a legit sys file, if not should i delete it? Let me know if you need more info. I moved it to the recycle bin and ran the program agian, now there is another file named yvatn.sys. they are now both in the recycle bin. Could it be coming from 2moons?
When I start my laptop up, just normally, I log in. I have that thing where I have to log in using a username and password, something that I downloaded and put into my registry. Anyway, all the time, when I log in, it takes forever to load up, it just stays as welcome and doesnt load. I left it for half an hour and it still hadnt loaded! So, I turned it off and on again, and it worked. But, a couple of times, I had to turn it off and on about 5 times ,and when it didnt load, I had to start it again in safe mode. THEN it worked. But, I hate safe mode!
i was able to watch Internet videos and other videos.. now this morning i get this message: "hello, you either have javascript turned off or an old version of adobe's flash player. get the latest flash player." well i made sure the java was enabled (in my internet options, tools, advanced, etc..) i updated to the most recent adobe's fp, and updated java's.
Every time I boot up I get an alert telling me that Defender has is not turned on. I turn it on an everything is hunky dory until the next time I boot up and we have to go through the same process again. This is only a recent thing and as far as I can tell the system is clear of viruses and spyware. Can anyone offer me any insight? (It may or may not be relevant but anti-virus software (Kaspersky 7.0) is suddenly not visible to the Security Centre either. It runs ok but is Vista thinks I'm running without anti-virus software...)
I turned my UAC off so I would stop having to tell it OK to open the program. When I did it completly stopped letting me open the program so I turned it back on. Now it asks me for permission to open the program but still won't open the program. Anyone know how to get the UAC to work properly again?
The monitor just displays the "no signal" message. when the PC is turned off. I have looked long and hard for an answer, Anyone else have an issue with this? I have a 3 year old 19 in Sony Flat screen. I just reinstalled the OS from the 64 bit to the 32 bit and had the same problem with both. I've Goggled this and had no luck finding an answer.
How can I gain FullControl of my machine? I have turned off UAC. There is only 1 account. That's me, and I'm the Administrator. I right-click on Documents and Settings in Explorer (or whatever it's called now) and I get "Access Denied?". I am NOT interested in Microsoft's idea of security. I want absolute control of every file on my machine. If I can't have control, the machine is useless to me.
I downloaded and used it. The firewall for Vista was turned off because of it, but it also warned that there is no firewall, even though I have Privatefirewall installed. It should state PrivateFirewall is installed or there is another firewall installed rather than stating there is no firewall or it is not turned on. Should it be ignored or fixed?
i bought an extra 2gb of mem (same brand, ocz reaper, but diff timing 3-4-4-15) currently installed is 4-4-4-15, for a upgrade to 4gb on my pc. currently, im running on win x64, sp1 with nvidia geforce 8800 gtx, my mobo (msi p6n sli platinum, intel) bios is v1.1. i can't install the latest bios ver 1.6, win won't let me. now, when in put in those 2 gb sticks my windows boot up really slow my cpu is playing between 90 - 100 % usage, sometimes my screen is black with only my cursor on the screen. i know that those new 2gb of mem are working fine i used them in replacement of my old ones but only on 2gb config. i'm thinking of reformatting my hd and installing the latest bios ver and reinstall win x64 again with the 4gb at the start, if it will recognize it.
Vista Home Premium, 32bit: I've read the tutorials here on how to enable DEP (Data Execution Prevention), but there are a few problems. First of all, there are two locations where different DEPs applications can be changed or turned off/on. The first one resides in the 'Advanced System Settings' > 'Performance' > Data Execution Prevention' tab. The two choices here are: Use DEP for Windows programs & Use DEP for all programs. Mine was set by default to the former, but when changed to the latter, web pages would no longer load ("server not found" or "unable to load..." So I had to reset to the default level. Q: What causes the problem? Is there a solution? Isn't my comp. better protected with DEP enabled for all programs? DEP's second residence is in IE > 'Internet Options' > 'Advanced' tab under 'Security.' The options here are to check or not box saying 'Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks.' The tutorial here tells me to right click on the IE7 exe. file, but I can't find it. Right clicking on IE in menu brings up 'Run as Admin' prompt then redirects/connects to 'hp.desktop.aol.com.' But by the time I get to the 'Enable memory protection...' box, it's grayed out & won't let me check it. Research says this is disabled by default. This is a new desktop. Shouldn't this DEP be enabled as well? .
When I start up my computer, I get pop up saying Windows defender is turned off with the red shield with the X on the bar. I try to turn it on but search says no new definitions found. However, when I click on START button and programs and click on Windows defender, I get green shield with checkmark in it. Is it on or off? If off, how do I turn it on.
Running Vista Home Prem;32bit Recently I noticed my HDD loosing about 3 to 4GB of space per day.....this all seemed to start right about the time I installed Vista SP2. I felt the lost was due to System restore rstore points, and, I was right. I turned off Restore which deleted all restore points and available space on my HDD increased back to where it should have been. Under XP you could adjust the size of the HDD reserved for Restore points, I don't believe you can under Vista. My total Restore Point space was taking up around 30GB of my HDD. Does anyone know how much HDD Vista reserves for Restore Points? It just seems to me 30GB is a lot of space to be taken up by Restore and I don't know how much more space would have been taken up by Restore by Sysyem ahd I not deleted all points. I of course have turned it back on and created a Restore Point (and immediately saw I lost 3 GB).....(I was losing about 3 to 4GB per day..and it was ongoing). Losing this much space per restore point....is this acceptable?
I turned off my UAC (user account control) and now i haven't found a single game that doesn't work in my computer. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Thought this information could be useful.
I have a strange problem trying to account for the space usage on my disk. The disk capacity is 186 GB, and there is about 12.5 GB of available space. However, when I look at file sizes using ShowSize, TreeSize, or just manually looking at folder sizes in the explorer, I can only account for 99 GB of space. I have backup/restore turned off. Where's the rest of the disk space?
I am running Vista x64 and would like to get the best out of the OS as I can, I only use it for gaming-downloading and watching film/TV shows, I have come across a setting in my Bios that is called Virtualization and it is turned on, have try'd to look it up and as far I can see it only needs to be on if you plan to run more than one OS ( witch I don't ) , So would it benefit me to turn it off?
I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows Vista. I logged in one day and found that all the zipped folders on my computer had turned into mp3 files. This includes all that I had created to store and send files via email and all that I received via email. I know that my son was using my computer and had accessed my Itunes. I have tried everything, including system restore, but nothing has worked. Can anyone tell me what happened and how I might re-convert these files to zipped folders?
my toshiba equium laptop wont go into sleep mode anymore even though ive set it up to do so in power options the screen just goes black but everything is still turned on. and i was wondering if there was a way to fix it.
So I logged into his account and changed the guest account into the administrator account. Then I did something silly and made his account into the standard account.
Then I changed my mind and thought, I'd turn off the guest account and keep just his account as the main one. Anyway now I have turned it off and I am stuck with his account as a standard account and I cant turn the guest account back on as I have realised I left some files on there I needed! DOH! I have tried to access the guest account files and it says I do not have permission!

Some time ago I turned off "Tablet Input Service" from services, now I need snippping tool, so I turned it back on, unfortunately it doesn't work, I can't find it in start/all programs/accessories :-( I also tried "turn windows features on or off"(Control PanelPrograms and Features)to activate "tablet pc optional components" but after some minutes it answers me with a generic "An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed"
I truned this off a while ago and since then I bought a $350 video card and Aero still turns off when going to certain web pages and I want to find out what is still causing this after such and expensive up grade to get so little in return. So how do I turn this warning back on? The card is an 8800GTX.
I believe my HP system runs vista ultimate 32 and I have norton antivrus, I dont beleive I have changed any settings to cause the problem I now have, but now when I boot up I get a windows message saying my antivirus is turned off, and I open Norton and everything is running ok. Then I got to windows security settings and it says that windows cannot fund any antivirus software on my computer WTF?? BTW, I still have 38 days on my norton subscription.
How do you turn off mobsync it makes my pc lose smoth performance. And tryed offline files and it still comes on. As in XP you had wireless zero config and turned it off and make my games not lag. But in vista it shuts down your internet when you shut it off. I want to stop the lag spikes while i play games.
And yes i know wireless isent for gaming but we have a dosen pc's here and dont have a finance to have cords all over the place it's a 2 story home with 8 pc's and 4 laptops so i just want a way to stop the wireless from resetting every 60 seconds. Make it every 6 hours if i can.
Does anyone know of a list of unnecessary services that can be turned off without harm--and speed up startup/opeation? I already have done a TrueImage restore one time and do not want to go through it again.
