I truned this off a while ago and since then I bought a $350 video card and Aero still turns off when going to certain web pages and I want to find out what is still causing this after such and expensive up grade to get so little in return. So how do I turn this warning back on? The card is an 8800GTX.
I no longer have Aero theme enabled, and, I can't select it from the list. This has started after I had to format my drive and install Vista all over. Everything else with it seems just fine. Only this "Windows Vista Transparency" is not working. There is only one place I can think of to enable it at, and it is not there. Do I need to install some updates?
There should be another option there "Windows Vista Ultimate" I think, but I could be wrong.
But how do I enable transparency and all of the other effects of Aero?

Recently installed Ult 64 bit, all working great except Aero refuses to run. WE Index As you can see it should run. Personalise,.. Windows and appearence is only showing Basic. If you can't get into Windows Colour and Appearence how can you Enable Transparency,? This means applications such as Dreamscene are unable to run.
As you can see, the Icons have like a White or Black thing round them. I think the smoothing is not ok. I also Can`t enable the Aero Scheme, don`t know why. I just turned my Computer off, and when i turned it on again, there was no Wallpaper, the wallpaper was a gray solid color, and the Bar, the one that has the quick launch, etc was all black, it wasn`t on Aero Scheme, the way it was. I tried System Restore, searched for Virus in AVG on Slow Scan, and adjusted it for best appearence in Advanced System Settings
With the latest post-beta 2 builds, Microsoft has included new Aero cursors that are not turned on by default. Follow the steps below to use the new cool looking cursors:
Right click on your desktop and select Personalize
Click on the Mouse Cursors item to select a different mouse cursor scheme....
I have a big problem with windows vista. I really want to get the aero theme working but I am failing at it. I have windows vista home premium 32bit. I also have 2 gb memory , 2.66 GHz, My resolution at the moment is 1024x768. I have a 19 inch widescreen (dell). Here are some pictures that might help you tell me what my problem is........
i really want to get the stylish vista with the aero fine theme
I've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.
Vista Ultimate with all the latest service packs and updates install, then installed IE8 RC1.
Installed Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 and had the following problems.
(1) Windows would not restart.
(2) required going through Safe Mode startup to get Windows to finish installation.
(3) after rebooting several times, finally got it going. (4) Aero was turned off after all of this.
Not sure if it was a remnant of Safe Mode or from IE8 RC1.
Note: If you have to reboot, then turn off the PC. Unplug the PC or turn the power switch off on the back of the PC on the power supply. Sometimes just using the buttons on the front of the PC does not remove all power and thus all facilities.
I have seen this many times; demanding a complete power removal before the PC would restart properly.
I've been running Vista Home premium for a couple of years. Over the past months it has started to slow down, with warning about low memory (2 gig RAM). I defragment quite often.
My father and brother both use internet mail and when they send any emails on to me in Vista mail I don't get the attachments (one was a .wmv ext) As far as I know I have checked/unchecked ALL the correct boxes in the mail options and my Avast online scanner settings and still I don't get the pictures intended or the attachments. I have removed Norton, checked my firewall settings and still nothing!
They have done it again. Microsoft geeks take a perfectly goodproduct Internet Explorer 7 and mess it up. They just can't keeptheir dirty little paws off that source code, can they? The URL dropdown now gives you an assortment of locations on your hard drive, something like Windows Explorer.
I just wanted to ask why this is, a friend of mine has a computer, its not vista doubt. It just Windows XP. So, it shuts down without any error or anything, I mean like your surfing on the web and the computer shutsdown and restarts, what can the issue with this be? I mean, it just turns off, without any warning, It turns pitchblack and the computer turns on agian. I helpt him defregmantating his computer multiple times, but it still dosnt work.
Whenever I try to convert an .avi file to DVD format, my PC starts the conversion process, and then suddenly shuts down. I'm not sure if this is a Vista problem, or a hardware one, or a ...? I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm wondering if there's some kind of fail-safe, a breaker of sorts, that shuts the PC down when the cpu usage is above a certain level? The PC does get extra loud when it starts the conversion, so my guess is the processor is really being drained. But if that's the case, shouldn't a dual core processor be able to hand a simple video file conversion? Am I making any sense? Probably not. Is there some kind of test / check / diagnostic tool I can use to assess what's going on?
My Vista x64 PC is randomly powering off. MSI Neo4 Diamond MB, AMD athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU, 2G ddr2-800 ram, 1TB and 500GB SATA drives, ATI Radeon HD4350 video card. started a couple months ago. either you get into Vista and are working and suddenly pow... it goes off like pulling the power cord. sometimes it will do it right before the screen gives you the login to Vista..Thought it was a power issue and upgraded a 500W supply to a 750W modular unit. No change... have completely disassembled the unit, cleaned everything, cleaned the CPU/heatsink and put new Arctic silver in.
I can sit in bios all day watching the hardware monitor and the CPU never get's over about 30-31 Degrees C. Voltages are good and steady. as soon as it's booted to Vista, it starts... even sitting idle it will do it. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 RC on the 500G drive. if I boot to either of those OS's, it will run for days without ANY issues... it is ONLY vista that has the issue. I thought it may have been the drive, so I made an image and restored it to the 500GB drive, then removed the 1TB drive from the system... Same issues.
I have a Vista Business from technet that had reached the end of activation, before I had the new key to reactivate it. Inserted the new key and reactivate, all ok, but I have still a warning that it remains 0 days to activate and the pc rebots.
WARNING!! Vista Windows Genuine Activation (WGA) Problems: Genuine Microsoft Software Advantage. There is a problem with Microsoft's WGA servers and they are not allowing Vista to be activated as Genuine.
Do not do anything that would require you to reactivate or validate Vista. EX: Windows Updates, Hot Fixes, Activation, etc. Wait a week before trying again to give Microsoft a chance to sort through the problem. If you do not, you will be left with a Vista that is considered not Genuine. If your 30 day trial period is almost up, or you are already in Reduced Functionality Mode, then see: - Read Tutorial
Do you know how to get rid of the annoying "wireless mouse battery level is critically low" popup? This is a ms wireless laser mouse 5000. It just started doing this about 6 weeks ago, before that it was fine. Did an update install new driver software or something? I just want to get rid of the popup, the mouse works okay.
I am receving a popup warning that a given device "could run faster" if plugged in to another USB port. I only have two external ports and have been using the same devices since day 1; Logitech receiver and iPhone cable. The only recent changes hardware wise is Dell installed a new motherboard. I have uninstalled the two USB composite devices and reinstalled them, no luck. I have check for updates and non are found.
I have disabled UAC on a Vista machine so that I can connect to it from a remote location and change its configuration. However, every time the Vista machine is restarted a window opens above the tray telling the user that UAC is off and that they should "click here" to turn it on. From ignorance or carelessness the user frequently clicks the window and re-enables UAC. How can I prevent this message from appearing? I want UAC off on this machine and I want it to stay off!
Iv'e been having a warning icon show up in the system tray lately, but I can't right click it, open it, or get any info whatsoever. Not a big deal really, just an oddity thats bugging me. Event viewer just shows normal error and warnings, although one DID show a reg. leak. Not sure if theres any relation there. Like I said, its not big deal...just more curious as to why I can't click or open the icon.
When my battery runs low I usually don't notice it's happening until it's too late. On my last laptop under XP I was given a screen pop-up warning to plug in my power adaptor before it was too late. I've searched all over the Power Management section in Vista and cannot find this ability even though I'm sure it's there. Where is it?
My coputer reboots without warning sometimes, often when i surf the Internet and listen to music (på otherwise as well) When Windows restarts it tries to solve the problem and i get this window that I attached. I have visited Realtek's website and downloaded som drivers but the problem remains the same. Does anyone regognize this problem? What can I do?
I just built this PC, installed Vista and also MS Works 2001. I keep getting a flashing UAC warning in the task bar that WKUpdate.exe wants to access my computer. I can click allow or deny, and it keeps coming back, no option to add to trusted users. I am about ready to turn UAC off anyway.
I have a program from a known vendor that I would like to install on Vista Business. When attempting Installation I get the message box: "Windows Security Warning" Windoes fouind that this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer, Windoes has blocked access to this file.
Name: Setup.exe"
I really want to install this program. How can I defeat this Security Warning?
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have issues with the system cold rebooting while surfing any websites. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 system. I've had several avenues of support from Dell's "experts" from India. None has solved the issue so far. If I run a Video card stress test, then go on a website and surf, the system will cold reboot in less than 10-20 seconds. The CPU does not seem to go over 60c, and the memory does not seem to run out of resources. Currently, if I surf for about 30 minutes or so, I will get a reboot. I have reinstalled Vista with SP1 and all updates.
I am running Vista Home Basic. I have good computer knowledge and skills although certainly not an expert. I can't understand why I am constantly getting the low C: memory warning. I store all pictures and music, etc. on a separate hard drive, and I have carefully gone over my program files and uninstalled any that didn't seem worthwhile. I have a 70 gig hard drive which seems like lots and is more than any computer I've owned before. Sometimes it seems that if I delete files, etc. to clear up memory and the next time I come back to my computer I'm out of memory again. I often get the "could not complete back up due to insufficient memory" notice. I'm unclear on what is being backed up and if this is part of the problem. I have 3 GB of RAM and the Virtual Memory is currently set at 3242 MB
When I use harmless programs (such as createinstall free), I get a warning: an unknown program wants to access your computer (litteraly translated from Dutch). How can I disable this FOR ONLY THIS PROGRAM. That means: My intention is to disable it only for createinstall, and not for any other programs.
