Windows Defender Application Failed To Iniatialise 0x800106ba

Windows Defender application failed to iniatialise 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program service to stop.
I have tried to download this again, but it says it is already installed on my Vista, but if I try to run it, the above error message appears and does so every time I start up, so I just get stuck in a loop!
I get a message saying evertime I try to start it, saying
that the application failed to initialize 0x800106ba. a problem caused this program's service to stop.to start the service, restart your computer or search help and support.
I got this error message after I turn off Windows defender via GPO in AD on a Vista PC: windows defender application failed to initialize 0x800106ba? I am looking for solution for the error.
Scenario: AD 2003 Vista enterprise installation Office 2007 installed McAfee installed McAfee firewall is installed Windows defender can be turned off
Disabling the Windows defender GPO results in the error after rebooting the system: windows defender application failed to initialize 0x800106ba?
My daughter suddenly experiences: Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize" This is a fairly new machine (running Vista Home Premium) and it was delivered with McAfee virus protection installed. The initial McAfee license is about to expire so she renewed that license for a permanent licence today. There may of course be a connection here, but I fail to see what that connection could be.
She was guided to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849 which suggests to initially remove (uninstall) Windows Defender and then reinstall it. The only problem with this is that Windows Defender is not included in the list of installed programs that can be uninstalled, and when she tries to "reinstall" it Windows Defender is reported as already present on the system. I checked on my own system where Windows Defender is running without any problem, and the same applies here: Windows Defender is not listed among installed programs.
I receive the following message when I have logged on to my computer: Windows Defender "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this service to stop." I have looked at Help and Support but have not found anything to identify what the problem is. I run Vista Home Premium 64 Bit OS.
I just downloaded a bunch of application and did a lot of work on my computer. I do however, have samantic endpoint virus protection and did a couple of scans with no problems. When i try to open windows defender i am getting an error that says. Application failed to initialize: 0 x 800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually. I restarted and tried to open it but got the same error.
Vista Home Premium. Windows defender won't start. Get some error message... 0x800106ba. Also... when I boot all security is turned off. I turn it all on again but when boot again its off again.
This message kept coming up after I turned my computer on. What does this mean and what do I need to do to fix this?? "Application failed to initialize 0x80016ba." A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually."
I'm running windows Vista Ultimate but have a couple of issues. First one is that I can't start defender at all, I can't update it because windows says it's already part of vista and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. The error message is 0x800106ba. Second issue is that I can't change the windows update settings, I have administrator rights but can't figure out how to change it, the options are greyed out.
The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
So, when I try to run Maya 2008 I keep getting this error: The application has failed to start because d3dx9_34.dll was not found. Well, thats a DirectX 9 DLL and so I am guessing I need DirectX 9 right? So I goto Microsofts DirectX site and get dxwebsetup.exe. But... I can't run it. I get this error: C:Windowssystem32advpack.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator.I hit ok, says it again, hit ok and get this message: Current logon user doesn't have the Administrator privilege. Please logon again as an Administrator or contact your Pc Administrator.
Well, I am the Admin and I have admin and even if I right click --> properties --> run as admin I get the same message... ok I figure I will just download the redistributable instead... I do that and I try to run the DXSETUP.exe and I get the same Admin error as teh web setup... I have no idea what is going on and now i am starting to get very angry... very very angry. This is the onyl problem I have had with Vista thus far... and it is the worste thing it could be, I need Maya...I am running Vista Ultimate x64 and the Maya version I am installing is Maya 2008 x64 designed to run on vista x64 so it's not that it is incompatible. mad.gif mad.gif
When attempting to install Tax Cut State program a message comes up "TaxCutAZ.exe" application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000005) The program then terminates. Still can not get the program to load.
I have a HP Mefia Center that came with XP preloaded and I made recovery disks. They also offered Vista free. I got the Vista and it came with "Upgrade Assistant" I ignored the assistant expecting it was more PR crap. I installed the Vista and it worked ok but I saw that XP was better. The installation did not give any option other than "clean install". After trying to install an old program that failed I started have problems with failed initializing programs including IE7. I was getting data execution prevention errors. On startup I get; Application failed to initialize 0x00000005. A problem caused program to stop working.
Cannot open any *.exe files to include browsers. I have tried to do a system restore, but did not help. I have also tried everything in safe mode with no luck. I have tried to run hijackthis, but it won't run either.

I am running Windows Vista Premium Home SP1. When I boot my computer, Windows Defender doesn't start automatically. It works fine if I start it manually. I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.
I have been using Vista Ultimate x64 for the last 5 months and have to say it's been a massive learing curve due to its fragility - 4 full rebuilds in the last 4 months - and not much fun when using SATA RAID. Anyway, got up yesterday morning, turned on the computer and it had managed to corrupt itself yet again: Windows Defender, Windows Picture Viewer and a host of desktop icons refused to find their pathways home and so decided against a full rebuild and started the repair option with a boot to the DVD. I set this off running and went to work at 12:30pm...
I came back 5 hours later and still had the dialog box " Finalising Registry" running on my screen! Well, a quick restart and i tried the upgrade option once back in Vista from the DVD. This then took and unbelievable 7 hours to complete and was finally ready - after updates - at 01:20am this morning, but a full clean install would have taken about 1-2 hours to finish, so i'll be doing that in future!.........
Vista Ultimate SP1+. On a couple occasions after turning Windows Sidebar off and later back on I've noticed its sys tray icon has changed to the same icon Windows Defender uses. After a warm boot Sidebar seems to sort itself out. Any rhyme or reason for this?
I have a QUAD PC Q6660 with 4 cores. There is an application that will setup my Windows Vista 32bit to use all cores instead of only 1? in the system hardware vista see that i got 4 cores but im not sure its using all of them. I know that in linux there is such thing that called instance that can use all cores while working on the pc
I am not sure if i have to keep Window Defender in ON. It came with Windows Vista. I have already a antivirus AVG 8.0 with all options activate. Could you please tell me, if in some way the updates from microsoft (Windows Defender) could overload my computer's memory?. or make it slower?.
I have to install AVG and they mention that Defender should be disabled. I have Vista Premium and when I searched the Internet for instructions on how to turn off the Defender, I am told to go to Defender and click on Tools and then Options and then go to: Administrator options. Deselect the Use Windows Defender box and press the Save button. My Options does not have Administrator Options at bottom (nor Use Windows Defender box). My Options has two categories: Automatic scanning AND Default actions.
1- Why don't I see/have "Administrator Options?
2- And, how can I disable Defender prior to installing AVG?
My Pavilion Vista laptop has been running slower and slower. Especially while on the web. Pages take forever to come up. Even program files or the All Programs menu. I have tried disabling Windows Defender thinking it might be scanning everything. Is this a possibility?
i have my own Security Set Up,how do i get rid of Windows Defender Permantly? i have never used it, i dont't seem to be able to remove it? is it part of Vista? also my startup programes are in it which seems to be the only way i can get to them is through Windows Defender?.
From the moment my new Vista Ultimate SP1 machine arrived, Defender hasn't worked. At first, it was crashing. Now it doesn't appear to be running, but MS Update wants to install an update that won't install.
Is there a way to uninstall Defender? I have other products that don't crash now and don't need Defender.
I seem to have Windows defender running on my Vista Ultimate SP 2 laptop. This is despite the fact that I cannot see it in the list of installed programs, and my download archive does not have a version that runs in Vista. I used to have Windows Live OneCare installed, but I've uninstalled that and ran the cleanup tool, yet I still see Defender in my taskbar (although it complains that its definitions are out of date).
Windows Defender-Turn Off I want to turn off Windows Defender in Vista. When I go to the Help page, the wording does not agree with my option. My Default actions allows me to Remove (or permanently uninstall Defender), which I would rather not do unless necessary.
