Windows Defender Spyware: Open Internet Explorer, The Windows Defender Pops Up And Says That My IE Is Infected?
Feb 11, 2010The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
Shut Down: Windows Stopped To Protect Data
May 17, 2008My computer shut down telling me that windows had stopped to protect my data. I then went to restart but on the black screen recovery console I can no longer choose which option I want ie. boot with safe mode, safe mode with networking or command prompt. My keys will not move the selector bar. I also now find that when I insert my Vista Premium 32 bit disc to utilise the repair windows function it keeps just rebooting to the desktop. My 1st boot drive is my dvd. How can I get past this startup problem?

Jun 11, 2008I get a small alert window pop into the middle of the screen called "ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" then text saying "type your username and password" Then there is three boxes with the details of my username etc and my password ****'d out. I can click "OK" or "CANCEL" or "CLOSE" but the box comes back. I am running Symantec virus protector and it finds nothing and Spybot and it shows there is a couple of items it can't correct unless I have admin profile.

Protect Computer And Driver Has Stopped Responding?

I have got Avast (could not go with AVG as its such a chore to shut the processes down) SpywareBlaster Spybot Search and Destroy Windows Defender (although I am not sure if this is any good, read somewhere that this was the program responsible for Nvidia Card users getting the famous "....... driver has stopped responding" error, its currently enabled on my system, but I am yet to have a long playing session, so I can't say if this error still comes up with or without Windows Defender.
Come to that, the driver error may not have anything to do with the Windows Defender.......I tend to believe everything I read so maybe someone more wise to this can say whether this is true or not. But my main question is, do I have enough to protect my Computer?

I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.

Nov 22, 2007I have been using Vista Ultimate x64 for the last 5 months and have to say it's been a massive learing curve due to its fragility - 4 full rebuilds in the last 4 months - and not much fun when using SATA RAID. Anyway, got up yesterday morning, turned on the computer and it had managed to corrupt itself yet again: Windows Defender, Windows Picture Viewer and a host of desktop icons refused to find their pathways home and so decided against a full rebuild and started the repair option with a boot to the DVD. I set this off running and went to work at 12:30pm...
I came back 5 hours later and still had the dialog box " Finalising Registry" running on my screen! Well, a quick restart and i tried the upgrade option once back in Vista from the DVD. This then took and unbelievable 7 hours to complete and was finally ready - after updates - at 01:20am this morning, but a full clean install would have taken about 1-2 hours to finish, so i'll be doing that in future!.........

I have Vista Premium and when I searched the Internet for instructions on how to turn off the Defender, I am told to go to Defender and click on Tools and then Options and then go to: Administrator options. Deselect the Use Windows Defender box and press the Save button. My Options does not have Administrator Options at bottom (nor Use Windows Defender box). My Options has two categories: Automatic scanning AND Default actions.
1- Why don't I see/have "Administrator Options?
2- And, how can I disable Defender prior to installing AVG?

This is despite the fact that I cannot see it in the list of installed programs, and my download archive does not have a version that runs in Vista. So when I sign on to get my computer up and running, it says that I have not run my Windows Defender for over 3 days and it should be done. I have it in "Automatically to run daily at 5:00AM." Jun 15, 2008Defender keeps finding a trojan that it cannot remove. It would appear it has something to do with advertising. I am asked ro re run defender becasue it can not be removed. Sending a report to microsoft consistenly fails and the whole process continues again until i eventually close defender. "ignoring" the finding does not work either. I have Trend micro Securuty Suite and it has never found the same trojan. Nor has 'spy hunter ' found it.Should i disable Defender?
