I have a rather odd situation, or at least for me, as I have never seen this problem before. The Contacts list in the To dropdown list in the Create mail windows does not match the Contacts list when I click on the Contacts icon on the toolbar of the WinMail window.
The names in the To list are listed with the last name first, which I never do, at least, not by intent. There are also names in the To list that are not in the correct Contacts list, and some that are in the correct Contacts list but not in the To list. There are some of the names from the Messenger that I never send emails to so I don't know how they are getting in that list. It really is irksome to start to send an email and click on the To tab in the email window and the name I want is not listed in that list, but, is in the regular Contacts list, I I have to type in the whole thing, or take the time to look up the name in the correct list and copy past the addy to the To bar in the email............
I need to be able to put lists into alphabeical order, such an easy task on windows XP. Surely this useful device has not been omitted on my new Vista......but I cannot find it.
I've just upgraded from XP and am new to Vista and this forum. My wife & I have seperate log-in accounts on vista ultimate in hopes that it would alow us to also have seperate email and contact lists. As of now we have sererate email accounts also but share a contact list between us and want to have our own, except that vista doesn't seem to allow us to do so. Is this something we'll have to live with or is there a fix somewhere?
I have a very long excel spreadsheet with email address in one column. With the older outlook product I was always able to cut and paste the column into the TO field and send mass emailings. Now that I am using winmail I get an error when I try to do this: CHECK NAMES: no matches found ........I have a clunky work around-I have added semicolins to each email address in the excel sheet but this of course is not a useful permanent fix. Can someone tell me how to turn off the "check names" feature or if this is not possible, how winmail can be used with excel to send mass mailings.
All the help screens tell me to click on the 'Contacts" icon on the toolbar and this will show an option "New Contact Group" to set up contact groups for mail. Well it does not! I am a very long time computer user with years of experience and never had this problem with Outlook Xpress. I know how to set up groups but cannot find the path to it. I have Vista Ultimate.
I use my IP to check my emails 1st; once I open the program my emails get 'dumped' into my email program(s) which are Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and "IncrediMail". HOWEVER; NONE of the 3 have the same 'email addresses' listed in them. Do I have to go into each and 're-type' or 'type' the ones that are missing or possibly changed or incorrect? Please be specific. I go to my IP to check my emails in order to use THEIR servers' protection; then I use the one I have on my computer.
I had two 100 name distribution lists in Outlook Express; when all data was transferred to new computer with VISTA, the lists were all messed up. Appears Windows Mail removes anywhere from the 1st three letters from the addresses. I seems to fix those I know what the real address should be but they keep changing (& getting between 50 & 100 undeliverables).
this "new" software just terminates whatever I'm in the middle of to update itself. hence I loose it all...most annoying...especially when it was a letter... The contact lists havent transfered....I paid for the software and the cable and everything...NONE TO BE FOUND IT INFORMS ME.... nowhere to be found even when I try to import/export.... also, the language is nowhere to be found.. when I try to do a spell check.. I actually hate this new vista and also all the changes to HOTMAIL. Who wants msn???not me... When I type in www.hotmail.com why should I write xxxxx@hotmail.com instead of like yahoo when all I write is my name not @ YAHOO.COM..its pathetic..then i have to go through another hoop and click on email to get to my hotmail.. Tired of all of Microsofts gimmicks... theyre annoying especially when we have to get used to them just to change again... It all defies logic... I am so sick of it.. I wonder if I can scrap this VISTA and replace it with XP? Anyone got any solutions... I cant stop hotmail.. I've had it since before bill gates owned it.. 10 years.. wish i could...
I am having problems importing contacts into Vista Contacts. I tried 2 things :
1/ LDIF I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format. I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of "," - all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.
I have set up a contact Group in Windows Contacts. Now I would like to go into that group and edit the lists of contacts. How do I do that? I cannot find a way to open that contact group to edit.
I've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.
I'm used to Outlook. I am getting email fine - but for whatever reason NO attachments show up AND I KNOW the message has them. This isn't just word docs but PDF and JPG's.
Is there a way to block the ads in windows mail without having to turn off Javascript every time I go into my account ? I am currently running adblock plus but it doesn't cut it.
wenn ich auf windows mail klicke kommt folgende fehler meldung "windows mail konnte nicht gestartet werden Der Windows Mail-Nachrichtenspeicher konnte nicht ge??ffnet werden. I have a large number of folders, several thousand, that I use to keep student tests and forms for our free online Bible College. A new problem has developed, starting October of 2009, which is now increasing in the number of folders affected. The email tests and forms will come in with one Subject line but something totally unrelated in the body of the email. Example: The Subject line will say "The Bible One Quiz Results" but the body will contain the test results for Salvation 5. And the file that is in the body is many times very repetative over several email submissions from my students............
Contrary to others I love Vista!Meanwhile I have 3 machines running under Vista (my desktop, my TabletPC and my wife's desktop). What bothers me most at present: For app. 2 weeks - out if a sudden - on my desktop (and only there) I'm having an unseen phenomenon with the screen layout:
Below the normal parts of the WinMail-window (columns for the folders[left side] and the headers preview and the messages preview [right, upper and lower half]) appears a sub-window with a scrollbar which stretches across the whole WinMail window. This sub-windows always is totally empty (no contents at all).
As this description might be unclear, pls see: http://www.hera.hs-heilbronn.de/Rt/WinMailProbs.jpg
I cab drag this sub-window bigger and smaller. But there always remain a minimal height determined by the "Up" and "Down" scroll-button (arrows).
I checked literally *everything* to get rid of this totally useless(empty) sub-window. To no avail An I already asked in the German Vista NGs. To no avail either {siiiigh}
I am using rules to move junkmail to a folder, but I would like to automatically forward it to spam@barracuda.net as well. Is there a way to modify the ACTION spec to forward as well as move?
How do I get my emails from XP Outlook to Vista WinMail? I thought I had backed up my emails in both Vista and Outlook, but when I try to import them it says that the folders are empty, which they are not. The Outlook folders have files with .DBX extensions and the Vista folder has files with numbered files. Can't I somehow just copy these files into the Vista mail store?
I presume that Vista mail is winmail.I find when I am downloading some e-mail, winmail reports an error and either shuts down or restarts. This only occurs with some e-mail i.e.that from some newspapers giving me e-mail bulletins of up-to-date news.eg. The Times online news. (UK) ,Can anyone explain why this happens, what is happening and how I can stop it from happening? When Winmail is restarted there is no problem viewing the e-mail.
After giving up for a while I am once again attempting to open WinMail e-mail attachments. What I did today was uninstall IE8 (thanks for the procedure). Once this completed, the machine rebooted to save changes. I then opend IE and clicked "help" to check the verion (7). So far so good. Then I went back to WinMail and tried opening an attachment. Still unable to open a .jpeg, ..doc, .pdf, etc. Right click, "save to" funtion doesn't work either.
I have winmail and had an additional folder in it to receive another family member's email. That folder is no longer there. Any ideas of how or where I could find it? Its not in my recycling bin. I have done searches and found nothing.
I want to move back to use my old laptop with xp platform with my Windows Mail emails. Today I am copying the Vista Windows Mail folder about 10G to an external hardisk first now still in progress taking probably 3 to 4 hours or more. After it is done, what is the next step and how to restore the folder back to my another PC using XP outlook express 6.
Have quite a few mail rules to direct incoming mail to subfolders. Each rule ends with "Stop processing more rules". Rules work consistently, EXCEPT when first starting Win Mail. What often (though not always) happens upon start is that some messages are not being processed by the rules and are left in the Inbox. These messages have the same rule-related characteristics as messages successfully processed by the rule that were processed earlier when WinMail was already running at the time message was received.
I've verified that the rule is correct by then using the "Apply Now" feature for the rule that should handle such messages. The messages then get directed to the correct subfolder. This does NOT occur with just one rule, but seems to happen randomly, depending upon which messages are being received when WinMail starts up. It's almost as if WinMail begins to download messages before the rules have been loaded. Don't know if there is such a sequence in WinMail.
I tried to re-set defaults so I would not receive mail in Office Outlook. When I go to send a general email to myself into Win Mail, that works just fine. When I go to send a photo thru Win Mail, the Office Outlook pops up and that is the only way I can send a receive photos. I just tried to re=set default on one of my account ( I have 4 emails acct on Vista).
When Office 2007 was installed, I inadvertantly set up Microsoft Office Outlook , when I already HAD WIN MAIL and Win Mail was working properly. Should I go into Microsoft Office outlook and DELETE this specific email accout? If I do, will it also delete it in WIN MAIL..as I dont want it to mess up my Win Mail, which seems to be working fine without picutres being sent.
I am using Vista Windows Mail through Bigpond and I keep getting a message window stating "The server I am connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value. Do I want to continue using this server?"
WinMail was working fine after logging off last night. Starting today e-mail does not arrive in my Inbox, cannot send mail either. When I click the Send/Receive button, a Windows Security pop-up appears and requires me to logon to my account. This has never happend before. Any info I put into the username and password do not log me on to my own mail. What gives? I have owned this machine for just over one year.
I'm cross-posting because these 2 problems appeared at the same time (after installing a lot of Windows XP application software) and may be related. I am thinking of laboriously going back through a lot of restore points, but would prefer some insight as to exactly what happened. Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell D830 with McAfee virus and e-mail protection. For the first week or so, neither problem was present.
(1) Windows Mail (winmail.exe) does not terminate its process when I exit. Thus I can't launch it again unless I either log out and log in again, or manually kill the process. Temporarily turning off McAfee e-mail scanning does not affect this.
(2) Whenever I delete anything from the desktop (whether my own desktop or the All Users desktop), Explorer hangs with a message like "Recycling 1 item...". I hit Cancel and the message box becomes unresponsive. I can still delete items from the desktop using Command Prompt and perhaps also in other ways.
I just configured Vista's Windows mail to hook up with my gmail account via IMAP. I have my emails stored in a folder structure (gmail calls them "labels"), which was recreated and all the emails downloaded. So far, so good. But then WinMail downloaded all 1700 emails again in the All Mail folder. I bought a small SDD drive for my new machine and do not want all the emails stored locally twice. How do I configure WinMail to synchronize my folders, but not the All Mail folder, and then I can delete the All Mail folder? Or are there any other options I can use?
