View 9 RepliesIve just changed from 32bit to the 64bit OS, and I have noticed that I have 2 Program Folders one has x86 next to it. I take it that this is for 32bit programs and the other for 64bit applications. The question I have is most of the programs are in both folders which means taken up valuable harddrive space, is it advisable to delette the 32bit folder.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI will be installing Vista Busieness 64bit on a system with Vista Home Premium 32bit currently installed. I want to convert the current install into a virtual machine (using VMware converter) so I can fallback to that environment from time to time after I install Vista 64bit. Is there anything I should be aware of? I am not 100% clear if I am actually allowed to migrate this install into a VM with the current license agreement.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure which will run better on my system. I hear 64bit supposedly runs programs faster then 32bit does. i'm planning on getting vista ultimate. Also I play a lot of video games, i'm not sure if that would conflict with anything, and I also use a lot of programs (not specifically at once), though i heard 64bit can emulate 32bit only programs.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi recently got a new computer which came with a home premium 32bit. I know the computer can handle the 64 bit upgrade so i brought the upgrade CD from Microsoft. It says it can be upgrade anytime and when i put it in it, it come out with this message. "Setup cannot be run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media." does anyone know how i should install it and why does it say it can't be run on this version of the operating system?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently using a vista ultimate 32bit machine for Photoshop drawings. As these images can become very large (up to 4gb in size) I am using my second drive as a scratch disk which slows thing down. My system has 4 gb ram but 32 bit only sees 3gb and I would like to utilize the extra gig and maybe add a further 2 or 4 gigs in the future - hence the upgrade to vista 64bit. Before I do, I have a few issues/queries.
1. I will buy a new hard drive to install the 64bit OS as a clean install and leave my 32bit OS on it's original disk incase it all goes horribly wrong. As I will now have three hard drives installed will this affect the installation of vista 64 bit? Will it interfere with the 32 bit versions boot sector?.... as I may need to swap back
2. I've read that vista 64bit has problems installing with 4gb ram installed. Is this true? Seems really odd if this is the case...............
I recently purchased an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64bit. Stupid mistake, as my machine (AMD Athlon64 5600+X2 Dual Core, 4gb ram) can only run 32bit. Since I was already running a "lite version" of the 32bit software in my pc, I decided to enter the license key and activate the program. I have downloaded all updates available through WU, but so far no SP1. I checked the forum and followed some instructions about updating drivers etc in order to finally get SP1 through WU, but have had no success so far. Since my "lite version" is missing some components, I was wondering if there is anyway I can get the correct 32bit version from Microsoft, after all my license key should be go for both 64bit and 32bit.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a big difference it the two? Would I really benefit with a switch to 64? What I have found out so far is that 64bit is better for graphics and video and not so much for applications. I just got my system in Feb of 2008, Vista 32bit, HP media center m8300f w/tv tuner, 3gigs ram, 640gigs hdd, 3.0ghtz AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor. I couldn't pass it up as it was a bundled deal w/monitor(HP) and a all-in-one printer(HP).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently just purchased a new Dell XPS M1730 laptop - it should be delivered in the next week or so. Apparently dell doesn't sell 64bit Windows - so I'm getting 32bit Ultimate from them. I have a 64bit ultimate DVD that I've used on my current desktop system - but was wondering if the key from the 32bit install is 64bit compliant? Or if I just got charged from Dell the extra cash for an OS I will never use if I buy my own 64bit vista OS? Anyone know if the 32bit CALs from Dell are 64bit compliant? I'd like to order whatever I need to have it in time for the laptops arrival.

That's it. I'll probably also need internet access to get stock images, tutorials, and buy stuff from the iTunes store. 64-bit or 32-bit Vista? I'm thinking about Home Premium or Ultimate.

I currently have an OEM copy of Vista 32bit which I run quite happily, but would like to install x64 on another hard disc to test it out etc. I can borrow an x64 installation disc from a friend, can I install and activate x64 using my 32 bit key? Like I said, its the same system but will be installed on another hard disc. Will it allow me to activate? Or do I have to buy another copy of x64 OEM?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit installed on my computer. I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.
I currently own a Sony VAIO running on VISTA Ultimate 32bit. This version was upgraded from Windows VISTA Home Premium through Windows-Upgrade-Anywhere. Because of various issues with VISTA and my Laptop I decided to upgrade to a faster machine with 4 Gig Ram. I now would like to upgrade me VISTA Ultimate 32bit to VISTA Ultimate 64bit to remove the 3 Gig RAM restrictions.
Unfortunately no one at Microsoft could really tell me how to do this. This is a all a big mess and trying to find information is really hard. The company I run has a icrosoft Action Pack subscription and I now even have 10 VISTA Business/Ultimate licenses... but again... all for 32bit. I really don??t understand why it needs to be so hard to simply swap a 32bit acquired license for a 62bit one. It??s an unnecessary restriction. From a Microsoft Hotline I learned that swapping 32bit/64bit is no issue if I bought a boxed version of VISTA Ultimate. The funny thing is that the same Hotline told me months ago that there is no difference between buying a "virtual license" through Upgrade-Anywhere and buying the boxed version.
Ive gotten tired of looking so Ill just ask here. Whats the difference in using the 32bit vista over the 64bit version?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an issue that does not seem easy to solve. I have looked at many ghost software programs to try to achieve this but have not found one yet. I need to move my PROGRAMS and files from my Vista 32bit machine to a new Vista 64bit machine I purchased. How can I do this? If I cannot do this what will the performance issue be by doing a complete copy of my current 32bit os and using that on my new i7 machine? Finally if I do transfer my 32 bit system, can I upgrade to a 64bit OS? What about when Windows 7 is available?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit (OEM, sadly) and would like your advice. I am planning on building a new PC over the summer (as I can finally work for decent wages!) and I want to make it a beast. I'm not going to go completely crazy; I'll have a budget of around €1,500 to €2,000. For the most part, I have a good idea of what I'll be getting (X38 Intel mobo, E8xxx Core2 or Quad, R700 ATi or 9xxx nVidia etc) but when it comes to RAM I'm a bit stuck. Should I get 4GBs and a cheaper 32bit version of Vista or go for the 64bit? I know 64bit can theoreticly handle alot more RAM than 32bit, but with 4GB is it worth spending the extra cash on 64bit, or will 32bit handle it just fine? (And by "handle it" I mean utilise it fully. I dont want to find only 3GBs out of 4GB are actually being used...) Aslo, for the 64bit users out there: how is driver support? Are you encountering many problems with games/drivers/hardware?
