View 0 RepliesI have Vista, DSL, and a laptop. If I open Mobility Center with the Start menu there is no "connection tile" there. So in order to connect I have to right-click the taskbar icon, click on "connect to network" in the bubble, go to "Wireless" where I get the error that the "network cannot be found". I have to go through diagnose, repair, and resolution process, then the connection opens. I am currently connected (now using pc for this) and when I just now went to mobility center through the start menu the connection tile was there again -- but when I need it to connect it is never there.
I am confused and new to broadband. When the techie set it up it worked straightforward so I haven't a clue what happened to mess it up. I am not even sure when the connection tile is/isn't supposed to appear in mobility center. I would like to configure it as it should be, so it will connect automatically at bootup when at home, and have the ability to switch the automatic connection on/off when I go out in public. I am savvy enough to fix it if told what I need to do.
I have a 9200 card in my Hp nx7000 laptop, but it seems like vista beta 2 can't recognize the card. I've tried with the beta drivers from ATI with no luck. Does anybody have a solution?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was thinking about creating a user that only has access to the Media Center. First thing i did it, configure the media center to boot with windows!
Now I need to:
1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode".
2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com
To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else!
I would like to remove things like Norton, EarthLink and NetZero from Welcome Center. Is it possible, and if so, how is it done?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have vista home premium 64 with media center. don't have any desire to hook up the computer to a tV or surround sound system, so is there really any reason to open up and install media center service? I burn cds, do some computer studio recording, sometimes plug a phonograph (remember those?) or a cassette into the computer to record. is there anything in media center that makes those experiences better? when i record off of vinyl i have to set the recording level down to practically zero to record or otherwise the signal is too hot using my usb turntable. it's really almost zero plus a tick or nothing at all. will media center do anything for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs soon as you install Windows Vista you are bombarded by the Welcome Center that is designed to help beginner Windows users easily configure their new computer. This new welcome screen is a nice feature the first time you start using Windows vista but quickly becomes annoying.
Disabling the Welcome Center is very easy to do and can speed up your boot as well.
1. Start Regedit....
When i press Turn On now it says " The security center can't be started". What i must to do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was using Media Center to watch video that was recorded through media center. Everything was fine for a few months then a couple of months ago the sound went away in media center for those videos. The media center still plays music and DVD's fine it just does not play viedo recorded off of the capture card in my computer anymore.
I am able to play those same video's through window's media player however.
Is anyone familiar with this?
My hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one, reinstalled Windows Vista, but Media Centre is nowhere to be found.
Searched for %SystemRoot%ehomeehshell.exe as barman58 suggested.
However, the following error message pops up "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. Contact your system administrator."
Media center is freezing up when I try to scroll search through the movies or music videos. It says it needs to update something at the beginning, but when I click the OK button the little circle just sits and spins and never does anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently removed spyware off of a system Dell Inspiron 530s Running Windows Vista Home Basic.
I used Malware Bytes, and once removed, the computer wouldnt go on line.
I had the owner open up the Services Console and discovered that Security Center, Workstation, Server, and Windows Defender Services were disabled.
I changed the start-up types on these services and for each service I got an error stating that the service cannot start because of windows resource protection service.
I then had the owner run the sfc /scannow and got the same windows resource protection error....

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't have Vista installed yet, but I want to set it up with an internal dual-tuner card, probably this one and use it as an ATSC DVR for OTA shows.

1) Can a Vista Ultimate computer running Media Center as a DVR be set to automatically wake up from S3 and start recording, then go back to sleep when it is done? I don't want to leave it running all day when on vacation just to record shows.
2) My Dell Dimension 4700 is a P4 3.0GHz, 3GB RAM, one 250GB SATA II 3.0Gbpsdrive for Vista to be installed and one 500GB SATA II 3.0Gbps for the recordings, with an eVGA NVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB video card with dual LCD displays attached.. I believe that to be a reasonable system. Do you?
3) My network is all Gigabit...or at least it was until I had to pull the PCIe Gigabit NIC from the Dell to make room for the Hauppauge card. There is only one PCIe slot available, so that leaves me with the onboard 10/100 unless I get a PCI Gigabit NIC. For streaming an HDTV recording to an"Extender for Windows Media Center" device for playback onto an HDTV, how much bandwidth does it gobble?
My OS is Vista Home Premium and I have been trying to set up my x box 360 as an extender using a wired connection. I have the code from the TV. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy OS is V-home premium 64bit. I've owned this Dell for about 3 weeks and have never been able to open Media Center. When clicked, I get this error message:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727mscorwks.dll could not be loaded. I had a Dell Tech log into my computer to find "patches," etc. To no avail. His only advice was to restore back to new.
By the way, opening ehshell.exe gives me the exact same message. I thought I had found the correct patch re: framework applications in the Win Knowledge Base. After a complex set of downloads I finally ended up with the same error message. Is there something I can do short of full restore?
I'm still totally at a loss as to how to fix my media Center. It seems that whenever I watch a video in media center in full screen mode it works fine until the play/pause taskbar at the bottom of the screen auto minimizes then it gets extremely choppy and looks like its having some sort of seizure. Yet if I move the mouse on screen again to bring up the taskbar again it runs smoothly once more.
Alternatively when the screen is not maximised if I dont move the mouse at all it runs smoothly but the second I bring the mouse onto the mediacentre screen the same thing happens and the video goes all black until the taskbar auto hides. This problem occurs while watching a movie or live tv in media center, yet if i watch the exact same video footage in media player the problem does not occur. I've updated all drivers (taking extra care to make sure I have the newest graphics card drviers) and installed a shark codec set in the hopes that might offer some assistance.
I have Vista Ultimate 64x bit. And i recently just found out why my files weren't play in it. ( because i didn't have 64x bit codecs). That fixed that problem. I was hoping it would fix the problem i was having with the internet TV beta program, but it didn't. When ever I play files, i get a black screen and nothing plays. I then goto the now playing option, and it says unable to play clip. The MSNBC TV thing works, but not the Internet TV program. I am not sure what the problem is. But i do have codecs installed.

1. By using the upgrade option for Vista Premium, does the hard drive get reformatted?
2. If not, do the recovery files for XP in D: remain?
3. Or do the recovery files for XP in D: get overwritten?
I was told by HP that the files could not be accessed because they are a different file system. As far as I know both operating systems use NTFS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought an xbox360 about a month ago. After hooking it up, I noticed my new PC in my home office (Vista Ultimate 64bit) had an installer pop up on the screen and walked me thru installing Media Center, etc, etc - so that I can now view pics, tunes, and movies that are on my PC, right on my 50" plasma in the threater room....I was psyched. waayy cool, right? Fast forward to a couple days ago. I came down to the theatre room to find my 8yr old daughter and 10 year old friend watching "Aliens" streaming thru my xbox from my PC that they were pulling thru over Media Center....Totally Unsuitable !!
I spent the remainder of that evening trying to move my adult content to another folder outside My Documents, xbox still found it. I then made sure the folder was not shared, and had no access for anyone but me (security tab), xbox still found it. I then tried moving the content to an ancillary sata HD inside the box and followed all the steps, my xbox still found it. I moved it then to an external USB drive and xbox still found it....Does anyone have any idea how I can specifically determine EXACTLY which folders on my PC can be accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? Or conversley, can anyone tell me how I can specifically protect some folders from ever being accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? This is a cool app, I didn't even know it existed until after I bought my xbox360 - but was immediatly wayyy sold on it...But I simply must be able to control the content that my kids have access to.
