View 4 RepliesI have used windows mail for years.I have never had to enter an username or password. When I push the icon to send and receive a windows security message box pops up and asks me for my username and password.I don't have one.I have never had one.I have used the same antivirus for years.I have email scanning turned off in the antivirus software. When I right click on the box I don't get anything except options to move or close. I have tried all my normal usernames and passwords and nothing happens.I close out the window and I do get all my messages coming in.I can not send any out. This happened after downloading window updates.I am on dialup and I am behind on the updates. If I delete the account will I lose all the emails?I am at my wits end with this because I am in diresct sales and I can't send out my newsletters to my customers!I can't send emails to my friends and family. I have to use another email account for all those things now.

I have given the correct one each time, but it just phases out and pops back up querying again. Who do I talk to regarding finding out what the username password are>?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am an MCSE and would consider myself pretty savy overall, but this particular problem (which exists in my home network) has me frustrated. I have a PC running Vista Ultimate x64. Attached to that PC (via USB) is a HP Photosmart C3180. My wife's laptop is running XP Professional x86. I am trying to allow her to print to the printer attached to my Vista x64 PC.
I install the printer properly and confirm it working on my Vista x64 PC. I then share it out under the name HPC3180. I disable password protected sharing and under the security settings of the printer I give "Anonymous Logon" permission to access the printer. I know generally I would have to specify the x86 version of the driver under the "Additional Drivers" area in the properties of the printer; but in this case I do not know where to get the .INF files. I can download the drivers for the 32 bit version of XP from HP's site, but they aren't self extracting EXE files so I cannot get the INF file out of them to use. I even tried setting it up (on XP x86 laptop) as a "Local Printer" with a "Local Port" that points the printer. I then tried to use a variety of older and generic drivers. At worst it refused to print entirely. At best I got some sort of seemingly random output from the printer.
I just tried to open my Window Mail and got a message window that said: Windows Security: Please verify that both the user name and password are correct for your mail server. It then wants you to type your username and password into two blocks. It then has a check block that says "Remember My Credentials". Then OK or Cancel. This is the first time I have seen this when I open Windows Mail. Is this something new or is this some kind of virus/malware?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows Mail on a Vista Ultimate system. My wife's and my mail files have been active for a year through our local Road Runner provider. now suddenly today "Windows Security" is requiring that we provide our usernames and passwords to be allowed to get to our mailboxes. Is this a Windows mail issue or a Road Runner mailbox issue?

I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a CD (*not* a CD-R or -RW) in Explorer, it often pops up a window asking how I want to format it. This is kind of silly for a non-writeable disc. If I click Cancel, it won't open the disc. Instead I have to let it try to format the disc and give up before it will open. A while back I called Dell support and was told to uninstall the CD drive and reboot. This fixed the problem once, but when I tried it again more recently it didn't help. I also tried turning on the Shell Hardware Detection service. That seemed to fix it for a while, but the problem has returned. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? The system is running Home Premium and the drive is a PBDS CD/DVD burner. Autoplay is disabled. The dialog box that pops up is titled "Burn a Disc". It says "Prepare this blank disc", and has an edit box labeled "Disc title".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just added a 1.5 terra octet hard disk to my system and am unable to format it correctly. When I ask Vista Pro to do a straightforward format it blocks at 73% (roughly 1 terra). I have tried 3 times to get the same result so I thought that I would outsmart the system by making two partititions one of 976.56go and the second of 420.70go but although the first partition was accepted and formatted, the second format is blocked at 11%.

Does not matter what is on the cd: music, pictures, data files, etc. The cds work fine in any other pc. If I insert a store bought or commercial made cd, no problems. Only have a problem with homemade ones. The drive is a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850s.
I've done the following:
1. Uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it.
2. Added "NoCDBurning" to the registry (possible fix found on other forums)
