View 9 RepliesI have a brand new game that has a label that the system requirement is WindowsXP. My new Acer computer came with Vista Home Premium and only a dvd burner/player and it is labeled as drive E. The game instructions assume a drive D on the computer but there is none. Any attempt at installing results in a pop up windows that reads: "invalid drive". Any way to change the drive letter on the computer at least temporarily? Or, anyway to install a game that wants a CD drive?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with Direct x 10, everytime i try to run a game.exe it runs in Direct x 9.0c, now ive downloaded the latest forceware drivers for my card, tried to run it in administrator mode and everytime i right click a game.exe vista does not show run in direct x 9 or 10.exe's. I have also tried to clean my graphics card drivers in safe mode, downloading EVGA drivers afterwards, this still does not work. In dxdiag it also says im running in Direct x 10.
I have a question, i installed a 32 bit ver of windows on the system by mistake then formatted the HDD and installed vista 64x would this have anything to do with the issue im having? (most of my files are moved to program files x86). Oh and one more crucial thing, ive tried to update Direct X 10 on their website, the update just installs 9.0c because im on sp1, i have also tried to update to sp2, the same problems occurred, did a fresh format back onto SP1.
I could not find this post elsewhere, but I can't get my directdraw to enable or mess with my hardware acceleration. Its just not active...any suggestions would be great. Latest Drivers Wiped and reinstalled all around. Regedit timeout is at 7.
I downloaded and loaded the latest, and older, drivers from both Nvidia and EVGA, my card manufacturer. Non of which has fixed the issue. Everything reads fine, as to the correct versions, but it always remains
with the same problems. Are there some sort of special privileges that I am missing, or possibly an included program with my card that controls these functions instead of windows? I have installed everything I can find from the Card Manufacturer and chip Manufacturer, I have updated my board bios to the latest and so on,
but nothing seems to make ANY difference.
i have to delete direct x file so i can play dawn of war on my laptop its vista.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe new Network and Sharing Center in Windows Vista is great for the average Windows user but can be a huge headache for advanced users. When I need to make a change to my network settings I don't want to be forced to go through the networking interface for the average non-technical users. I want to go right to the settings screen and make the change.
I am a big fan of the old Windows XP network approach where I could modify all of the network settings and connect to wireless network from the Network Connections screen. In Windows Vista, the Network Connections screen still exists, as shown above, but you have to go through the Network and Sharing Center screen first. Using a very useful explorer trick I discovered when playing with "::" and explorer class IDs, you can create a shortcut that will take you directly to the Network Connections screen.
Right click on the desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
In the location box, copy and paste explorer.exe ::{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} and hit Next....

HP deskjet OK direct connection by not via network share permalink. I have a HP deskjet 5550 printer connected to a XP pro (32 bit), it is shared. I have no problem using this shared printer either from the local XP machine or another XP machine. I had no problem using the share when I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit installed. However the Vista Ultimate 64 bit gives an error stating the server does not have the correct drivers, and requests that I supply and inf file. Searching the HP web site they state the vista already has the drivers. I connect direct using a USB cable and can print without issue. Even after that no luck connecting via a share.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop last year that came with Vista Home Premium 32 bit...I am not at all computer savvy, but bought some recording software called Audiogram that is supposed to be the equivalent of Garage Band that comes on a Mac. However, I have never been able to make the recording program work! It acknowledges there could be some problems with Vista, but ultimately it should work. The latest message I get when I open the recording software is "The currently installed soundcard driver does not support Direct Sound Input. Recording audio is not possible." What do I do? I can't return the recording oftware because I registered it, plus it's been months that I've been reading/downloading updates thinking I could get it to work. I've been told by several people that vista has soundcard problems.

So i dont know in this situation how do i re-setup my vista or repair. Now the problems that i am facing.I am using the hidden adminstator account.It was good but i guess i was effected by some virus. I was using bit deffender antivirus with all the latest updates. Also i use to update my windows regularly.But now i cant update my vista or run any programs properly.At first problem that i faced which is when i click any program it comes with the choose promt i mean when a program does not have the extention like for example .exe like .zip etc dont have then a choose promt come so same thing happen in everything even songs videos programs that i need to choose from the promt again the same file even i go though the program files i need to choose. Also i lost my admin rights i dont know why that thing happen.
Then i clear my pc with advanced system care 3 pro and fixed 2424 registry problems. But the problem didnt stop yet.Now when i click any programs or anything a message comes with: this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel. But this when i click right mouse button and run as start it works Like open run as adminstator then start button and this is happening to every program No program is running in the time of start up. even not antivirus or any program i need to click start to run any program
I have a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows Vista Home premium and I have a problem with my sound.

2. 28.1 GB Size on Disk When I Open C & Select All, Then Click Properties (30,206,545,173 bytes)
3. That's a Difference of 20.2 GB & I Checked Show hidden files and folders & Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
4. 33.2 GB is the size of my Compressed Backup on my Acronis TrueImage11 C Drive Backup to an External HD, so I think the 48.3 GB is true. Where could the 20.2 GB be hiding?
Yesterday, I opened a document (Office Student 2007) from my e-mail account on the web (not Outlook)
I clicked "Save" repeatedly throughout the day and was never prompted to select "Save As" and when I X'd out, it did not say "Are you sure you want to close without saving?" so, I assumed all was well. However,when I went back to open it, it wasn't there. I searched all the folders, hidden folders, temp internet files, etc. but cannot find it!
I was clicking "Save" so it has to be saved somewhere, right?
Previously was dual booting vista x86 and windows7 x64 off same hard drive.
I decided to replace vista x86 with vista x64, On boot up i have no longer got my bootloader as it just boots straight to vista x64.
If i use win7 disc and do bootrec /fixmbr will this retore bootloader or just default boot to win7?
Hi there, the flienames are no longer being displayed when I view the contents of C: drive as icons. I am aware of how to hide/show filenames for any folder other than system ones using the ctrl key and 'View' menu, however this does not work with C: drive. Any ideas how I can get the filenames back with the icon views for this folder?

Suddenly my dvd drive(nec)is lost from my computer icon and also, i cannot see it in device manager!!!making a restart is not solving the problem. The only way to see again the drive is to turn pc off, change sata port on drive and when i turn on again the pc it starts to install it again. Foe some hour dvd drive works and is recognized perfectly. but suddenly(without nothing to do!!!)just waiting and looking the pc, dvd drive is lost again and tha hard disk led stays continiously on! any other functions works fine...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI set about re-scanning but ended up with fewer channels. I scanned again and got even fewer channels. I started with 72; then it was 56; then it was 41; now it is 31. All channels were working yesterday. I got an update this morning around 09:00 GMT. Has this got something to do with what is happening to my system? Does anyone know? esterday evening (GMT) I received a further update and rescanned the TV channels. It went up to 56. It remained at 56 after rescanning this morning.
