Do you know if Vista still has a 'browser' to see which computer on the netwrok is the master? When I open the Network icon on the desktop, it shows me there are three computers powered on, and it finds them thru my ethernet LAN.

"The browser was unable to promote itself to master browser. The computer that currently believes it is the master browser is JAYS. My machine is NOT called JAYS."
I am using pair of Intel E5410 quad core processor with chipset Intel 5400 with on board network card (Broadcom Net Xtreme 57 Gigabyte controller). OS Vista Ultimate on x64. While I access network it is very slow.

I've logged on to a Server 2003 AD domain and the mapped drives that are usually connected via script aren't visible in 'Computer'. My first thought was perhaps some sort of incompatibility between Server 2003 group policy (or script) and Vista Business but when I was creating my recovery disks, I selected create ISO and when browsing for a location, the usual mapped network drives were available. So it appears that the recovery software can see my mapped drives (and therefore the OS must be able to see them) but I can't see them in the OS under 'Computer'. Is there something I need to turn on or off?

I finally decided to register My problem is, I downloaded and tried to use Vista Visual Master (v1.0.2) to change my boot logo as mentioned in this forum. I also had to change the input languge to en-US. It didn't workout anyway. After closing the program i realised that my explorer settings have been changed (While browsing locally, every single folder opens another window.)
As well as my OEM info beeing deleted. So I opened the Folder Options to change the settings to the default position. I clicked Apply then OK. I logged off and on again and opened Computer. I double-clicked Local Disk and it opened another window. So I decided to download the theme program again. I downloaded it but i encountered an error saying that windows has blocked the destination (which is the Temp. folder) and now i can't even save a file I downloaded from the internet. I think this is a self-protection behavior becouse of the changed settings. P.S. I also tried to reset folder and desktop options from regedit.
I bought a laptop sony vaio with Window Vista Home Premium three weeks ago. I forgot my password (Master account) but I thing that I still remember the Administrator password. When I turn on laptop I see only my account (Master account). How can I change to Administrator acccount on boot up?

I would like to be able to use the X32 bit version of IE as my default browser. How can I accomplish this? Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. The primary master has an old school ATAPI DVDRW. Keep in mind there is no way I can change a setting in the BIOS (or I don't know how to do it) so that the SATA device is the primary master drive, so these are permanent settings; the primary master and slave drives connect to the IDE connector on my mobo. Now, I?ve tried and tried and tried, but I can?t do a clean install nor an upgrade of Windows Vista Home Premium x86 (from DVD) on that SATA drive when it is hooked up alone (as the third master drive)...........

But here?s the kicker. If I plug in my old regular ATA IDE drive as the primary master drive, the DVDRW as the primary slave, and leave the SATA drive as the third master drive, I can install Vista with no problems onto the SATA drive. I just have to leave my old regular ATA IDE drive plugged in as the primary master. If I try to disconnect my old regular ATA IDE drive but leave the SATA drive plugged in by itself, Windows
Vista won?t boot.
What is the deal here? How come I can have the SATA by itself as the third master and install WINDOWS XP with no problems and have a workable system, but VISTA doesn?t install. I just paid over $250 for Vista and I have to use this kind of setup to get Windows Vista to work on a SATA drive by itself? This is lame. I want to take that old IDE hard drive out of the box.
Here are my install screens:
First screen: ?Windows is loading files.? bar goes to 100% and the screen advances
Second screen: Black screen with moving green bar and Copyright Microsoft Corporation on bottom. The green bar just keeps moving on forever and doesn?t go to the next screen (which would be the colorful ?Install Windows? dialog box where you choose the language, time/currency, and keyboard, etc.)

I went to my start menu and searched services.msc and checked to see if plug and play, windows audio endpoint builder, and multimedia class scheduler were all set to startup type automatic & all started. they were. so then i go to Windows Audio, right click to properties, and it is stopped. So i click to start it and it says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."
I tried to restore my computer but my restore point is past the point when this issue originated. Also, Conexant Driver is installed and working properly. If I right click on the volume icon with a little red X through it... I can click on Open Volume Mixer, and It says "No Audio Device Installed" Yet, my audio devices are installed.
What is a good internet browser other than ie that will not slow down or freeze, or give me an idea which addons I should install.

Today things are loading up slow and with I go on to a news source to watch a video...the videos stop and go making the news video not worth watching. A couple of minutes I was looking at something on here where it said to use "cmd" command to get into something. It was set on "ultrarestrictive" and I changed it to "normal" but haven't seen much difference in how things are working. The other day I downloaded UTorrent on my computer but today I uninstalled it. Could UTorrent have messed something up?

I'd made my browser choices before downloading (I use IE, Chrome and sometimes Firefox), so I don't want to pick another one. But I can't get rid of the update: every time I reboot it comes up, with an annoying 'Certificate cannot be verified' message as well (from Windows????). She has broadband access, but as soon as she drills down more than two levels, her browser slows right down. For some reason, it worked well and fast for about a month, but she recently rebooted her PC and it's s-l-o-w again. Has any else experienced this problem? Is there any way or reason to go to the 32 bit version of Vista?
