View 8 Replies View RelatedEverything seems fine except that the network downloads seem terribly slow. On my XP laptop using the same connection, speeds are at around 1000 kbps. On Vista download speeds are more like 100kbps even though uploads are at 800kbps. I have tried updating drivers, disabling auto-tuning, etc. I don't have any anti-virus s/w like Mcafee or Norton. Vista's network diaganostics doesn't seem to detect any problem, but did change TCP/IP MTU settings.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIm having issue browsing and downloading stuff online with IE7 and Firefox 2.0.0.14, firefox works better but is sometime slow for no reason I though it was the website but i tried on my other pc and its on the fly. I was downloading an update and its only downloading 9k/sec i turned off all other programs and its still slow as hell tried on other computer and its downloading at 300k/sec. I've done a clean install of windows and its still doing the same thing. In IE some pages dont even load... this is getting anoying.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have vista on main pc with ZyXEL NBG334W router attached connecting by Ethernet to another pc running XP sharing is fine uploads are fine downloads are slow.I have virgin media 20Mb connection I only get speeds of around 2mb to 10 mb on main pc if I use direct connection to cable modem I get full speed can anyone tell me if I can set configuration to get full speed through this router?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have several 32bit vista ultimates on other machines. the 64bit machine has Home Premium and i'd wanted to go ultimate on it as well. i saw "Anytime Upgrade" and using the name only postponed the upgrade till i had funds and time to do the upgrade. surprise 1, anytime refers to paying for the upgrade. i was sure to use the 64bit machine to order and postponed my expectations on using the ultimate features until the DVD arrived to me in alaska.
since the upgrade order process said it was scanning my machine i was sure i'd get the 64bit disk. surprise 2, disk was the 32bit DVD tho it was plus SP1 so i guess it did scan my machine in some fashion. in the package the instructions on ordering 64 bit media are given. use this web site and order. you'll have to pay even more and wait even longer but you'll get the ultimate upgrade ultimatly. surprise 3 the web site after putting in the product key from the ultimate upgrade dvd package gives the error "No Offer Found"
Downloading EXE files and what I assume are EXE files (Flash Viewer update, Java update, etc.) stops after a short amount of progress. There's no warning message, no error message, no clue at all given by the OS; the progress bar just...stops. It waits patiently, even if I cannot. It'll stay there all day if I let it.
Replication: It's inconsistent in that some EXEs do download just fine, but consistent in that the same EXE files always freeze. Consequently, I don't have the latest Java updates, Flash Viewer updates, and more, and I can't download Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live Messenger. The latest problem: I can't play my new game, Company of Heroes, until the in-game patch downloader installs the latest patch. Problem is, it freezes............
I´ve just built a new PC 4gb ram, intel quad 6600 Asus p5b SE mobo. I installed Vista ultimate on it and it´s taking 5 minutes to start up and it took 5 hours to install COD4! everything is very slow. I installed XP Pro 32 Bit on it.. and it performs as fast as i expected. I installed Vista Home Premium from an Acer recover disk i had laying around 32 bit again and once again it´s quick.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had vista for around 10 months and never really had a problem with the internet but in the last week I've noticed it is running really slowly. No explaination it just runs slow, really slow. I have AVG, stopped running that, I've rolled back recent windows updates, I've done a system restore to last week. My network card has a greyed out rollback button so can't do that.
Also I've ran some speed tests and I get around 250k download and a 690k upload which again is strange, but I've ran the same test on a eeePC running linux and a laptop running XP and get 1mb download with a 690k upload.
I have a pc that has been booting slow and I checked in the performance area and found two issues effecting the system. One is for slow startup, and it gives me three programs that are doing this. I see one I will not be able to do anything with and two I should. They are:
1.) Symantec ( 67.7 seconds) ccSvchst.exe
2.) Acrobat Distiller (51.1 seconds) acrodist.exe
3.) Windows Mail (28.4 seconds) WinMail.exe
I went to find the programs and get them to stop loading "2 and 3) but they still load up. How do I stop them from loading on startup? Also on the other issue for visual settings. I tried to goto basic vista display but still get this Performance issue coming up in the Advanced tools area.
I've tried all the common fixes posted around the net. I get a two minute boot in safe mode and in reg mode with nothing in the startup. I feel that after looking at the bootlog file that it has something to do with drivers that don't load during the boot. According to the log I have dozens and dozens of drivers that apparently don't load. Here is a sample of the log. I don't enclose the whole log because it is very large. I will if necessary:

Just underwent a zillion reboots and finally undid this weirdness - read on. I decided to format my second XP on partition D: and install Vista Ultimate SP2 obtained from Technet Plus where I'm a subscriber. I installed using "Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (x86) - DVD (English)" ISO from Technet burned to a DVD and used the key I obtained there, not the "Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 2 Checked Build (x86) - DVD (English)". Actually not quite sure what "checked build" is.
It installed OK but while booting I noticed right after the initial scroll bar when the screen is normally all black for several moments, registry entries (?) in white print flashing across the top of the screen, then it booted normally, but I had "Test Mode" in all 4 corners and "Windows Vista...blah blah" in the centre top of the screen. I thought maybe I need to activate which I did, I had entered the key during the initial install. It updated normally, some failed. I rebooted and could only boot either into that or XP. My main Vista on M: & Windows 7 on N: had vanished. Anyway I formatted D: again, removed a few Vista boot files, re-did the EasyBCD number (in XP on C: ) and finally got my old boot menu back.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi was just installing some extra languages on the ultimate extra update, i just selected all the updates to download as i was in a rush go leave home, it came up to about 5gb, it wasnt a problem because i was going out for about 4 hours. i came back home, download was complete and was installing the language packs, at first i thought it was stuck because computer started to run extra sluggish, but just as i was about to restart computer the bar moved, so i just waited, just doing some browsing etc on this forum, researching and getting tips and tricks etc., despite the fact that it was still running slow..i checked the cpu usage, the cpu was fine, but with suprise, the ram was running about 1.9gb ( i have 2gb ram). first of all, is the language pack suppose to take that long to install? and is it suppose to use that much of the ram?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently put together a new computer using these parts: I've updated to Vista Ultimate SP1, run multiple disk clean ups, defrags, use CCleaner, clean the registry, defrag the registry, disabled services and have made tweaks according to the guide provided on this website and have minimal startup programs running but my boot times average around 2 minutes. For a new computer with new hardware, this seems unreasonable as many users report boot times between 30-60 seconds. What could be wrong with my computer? On the vista loading screen with the green bar, it goes through about 22 cycles.

Does anyone know where they might go?
This problem just started this past Sunday. I tried to do a restore point, but I cannot go back past a day or two. In XP, restore showed a calendar to select a restore point.
I even tried to download to a cd and it show the download progressing, but when I went to the cd, it wasn't there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to help with windows Vista basic IE 8 (had IE7) with problem downloading files which then just do not get saved to disk where it should be (or anywhere for that matter). The user account is has administrator privilages but it seems as if for downloads they do not or at least it acts that way. It is not even running the programs when told to in the download choices. It goes through the normal appearance of downloading and saving the file from the temp folder but then poof is not saved to disk at designated store point.
I have used a work around for now by using the Administrator account and can download through that but do not want to expose that account for long. Is there some permission or registry fix for this problem. I have checked all IE settings in control panel but they are all good for downloads. I did install IE 8 to ssee if that would fix problem but still the same.
The problem: When i download a program to use, after i click open & it downloads to 100% nothing happens, the program doesnt run & also it doesnt go anywhere. Ive tried saving to a specified location but nothing is saved. Is there a box somewhere which needs to be clicked? It wont let me run any new programs or any software updates for existing programs?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe problem now is that when he clicks on an mp3 or doc file (those are the ones I was able to check) when on the net with internet explorer 7 the download disappears. It pops up with the window to download the file. I removed the check in the "close window when complete" (or whatever it says). You can watch it download the file but when the download is finished the window closes. When you go to the appropriate folder nothing is there. I have even searched the computer with the file name and nothing. It doesn't even attempt to open media player (11) to play the file. He said both the mp3 and pdf issue started at the same time (don't know if that is coincidence or not) and was surprised when I pointed out the same thing with the doc file and no attempt made by computer to open Word. I did download firefox and clicked on an mp3 file and it played fine. Thinking we just needed to repair IE7 I went to M$ site and quickly learned that you cannot download ie7 if you already have it on your computer.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have been noticing lately that I can't download anything! I've tried Rapidshare files, simple stuff like Adobe Reader (just to test,) etc. No matter what happens, the dialogue box (for downloading) stops at 99%, leaving me the only option to "cancel" the download!
Does anyone else know what could possibly cause this? Is it software I'm already running that it's conflicting with, like iTunes or Trend Micro Internet Security? I'd sure like to do more computing than writing simple emails... I'd like to download again.
I keep getting a message that I do not have all my security downloads, as per bulliten Q942831. I check my installed up-dates, which tells me I have all up-dates installed, yet when I look at the numbers from the bulliten on 2-12 it lists the following up-dates that are NOT installed, and I have no way of getting the individual update numbers to install them. Here are the numbers from the bulliten that ARE NOT installed on my VISTA HOME PREMIUM which includes Office 2007. KB 946538, 942831, 942830, 947890, 947077, 947081, 947085 and 947108. There are 14 listed in the bulliten, and two have been installed.

I have made sure that file download is on, I have tried unsuccessfully to system restore, I have turned off Windows fire wall and defender, I changed the user setting, I tried to uninstall windows defender, but Vista won't let me.I reset the internet settings. I am at my wit's end. This started happening right after I downloaded Norton. From what I can see from the different forums I've been to, no one seems sure if it is a Vista problem or a Norton problem. The only good thing so far is that my computer is a lot faster
now that Windows defender and fire wall is off. I can't even download Windows7.
For the past while (I'm not entirely sure how long), I've been seeing tons of CAB files in my Downloads folder. Most of them are titled something like "Mar2008_d3dx9_37_x64," which leads me to believe that they're drivers of some sort, but I have no idea where they've come from. There are dozens of them, to the point where I no longer use my Downloads folder because it's so much easier to find things when I put them on my Desktop. I've read that Vista doesn't really use CAB files anymore, but I'm hesitant to get rid of them for fear of something bad happening.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'll start by pointing out that I am by no means a rookie with computers. I've used and done troubleshooting on PCs for quite a while. Be that as it may, this issue is a new one to me and simply beyond me. Whenever I attempt to download a file via either of my internet browsers(IE/Firefox) the files simply vanish. I can watch the files download and observe the progress bar. I can even repeatedly select the un-finished files I'm downloading and check their properties and confirm the files are the same size as the progress bar indicates. However, the moment the download finishes, the files simply cease to exist. The icon vanishes from the destination directory. It does not appear in any other directory, and any uses of search of the entirety of the hard drive for the filename of the vanished file come up empty.
Perhaps even less sensible, repeated attempts to download the same file will sometimes result and a .part portion of the file remaining present in the destination, but any attempt to delete the file results in an error message telling me the file is not resent, verify the location and try again. Weird given that I can right click the .part and select delete or drag it into a recycling bin only to be told the file I just clicked isn't there. And a last note on the issue, is that I have managed to 'trick' the problem with a large file download on firefox by downloading it repeatedly and attempting to open a previous vanished download of the same file in the same destination as the current download reaches about a half-second from completion itself. Can't really explain how I am able to pull that one off.................

They tell me they don't support trial downloads but that my situation is "strange" and unusual. This is not the impression I get from looking at several different forums, also I can't buy a piece of software I can't install
I must have downloaded at least a dozen CS3 trials and attempted to install them. The files extract onto the desktop and then when I run setup I get the installer window. The bar moves across and that's the end of the story. I have tried running an elevated command prompt:- "cd C:WindowsSysWow64" then "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" then "regsvr32 jscript". I thought this was going to be successful but when I tried to run the installer it failed and I got the following message:..........
i have this HP compaq presario CQ60 and any time i try to download anything over a few KB, the download fails. This happens during all updates, winupdates,antivirus updates, network file transfers ect.. Basically any downloads. I have no problem when using a LAN connection its only wifi when i have the problem. I have attemted forum searches on microsofts website to no avail , google, bing ect have nothing even close to the results im looking for, all my drivers are up to date.
