When I was on Vista 32bit, I used this program called I8FanGUi to show me the temperature of my GPU/CPU in my taskbar. Is there a program like this for Vista64bit? I keep getting a Driver error when I try to install i8fangui on 64bit.
View 9 RepliesA friend of mine doesn't have a computer at home, and uses one at the Senior Center every day. Since they're public computers, all the settings are reset to defaults when they're rebooted, which happens automatically overnight even if nobody does it manually. He was talking about having to change settings to the way he likes them every day -- unlock the taskbar, show Quick Launch, set the font face and size in WordPad, set the margins on Page Setup, allow active content to run from local files in IE,... It amused me to write a little app that changed all these settings to the way he liked them, using CreateProcess to start up apps, and SendMessage to send keystrokes and mouse clicks to them. I gave it to him so he could put it on his flash drive and run it when he got to the Senior Center every morning. When he watched it running, popping up app windows and changing their settings, he asked me, "So you have something that records keystrokes, and now you're just playing them back?"
His question sort of intrigued me. I heard of something like this a few years ago, somebody I talked to at Yahoo chess was running long joke messages through the chat area. He said he had something that would record his keystrokes and save them as "macros", and play them back. Apparently there's shareware out there that does this kind of thing, but as you might guess from what I've already said, I write computer programs for fun, and with shareware, somebody else gets to have all the fun. Besides that, I never put shareware on my computer anyway, because of the possibility that it contains viruses or worms or whatever. I've fiddled around some, trying to figure out how to record keystrokes and mouse clicks. First I tried to use SetCapture, but as soon as the mouse clicks on something outside the app window that has the capture, it loses the capture. Then I tried setting up a transparent window over the whole screen and passing on all mouse clicks and keystrokes to the window that would receive it if my transparent window weren't there, but that didn't work either, because windows react differently to input if they're covered up by another window, even if it's transparent.....
Just wondered what the normal temperature of a PC was when it's running, when you're gaming for example?
Generally considering the motherboard and CPU below in a well ventilated case
with fans on everything, what would be an acceptable CPU temperature range in
your opinion?

View 9 Replies View RelatedNot a problem but I bought a gateway computer that has an AMD Phenom quad core with 3gigs of ram.It came with Vista Home premium installed on it. OK so I dislike Vista so I rounded up all My drivers and bought another Harddrive and installed XP on it.Both os run very good with the exception that on XP the AMD runs about 8 degrees C hotter than on Vista.On Vista it idles at about 42c and on XP about 50c. I contacted AMD and they said it was within specs.I am wondering if anyone else has ever come across this situation.I used Speedfan and My bios to arrive at these temperatures. I have built a lot of computers before but I always used Pentium and I never realized how much hotter AMD runs.

Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). this looks like the closest i've found to a forum w/ my prob.
essentially i backed up my HD on an external (western digital) using "second backup" as the backup software.
i noticed after backing up that all my folder icons (favorites, contacts, music, pictures, etc...) reverted to the generic yellow folder.
i was able to change one or two (and only those in the shortcuts in "favorite links" heading of a windows explorer window) by right click -> properties -> change icon but all the folders (in their actual location eg. c:users"username") remain the ugly yellow folder.
changing them one by one seems inefficient and if annoying if it were to occur again.
i've done the right-click on destop -> personalize -> change desktop icon -> restore default, no result (tho i didnt really expect one since the desktop icons arent really the issue)
i've rebuilt the icon cache, no luck.
i've re-written the desktop.ini for a couple of them, no result (tho i didnt really expect one)
system restore isn't an option, i dont have an old enough restore point (hense the need for backing up).
i'm wondering of a systemic way to essentially restore the default icons for all these folders (music, video, downloads, etc...) and their respective shortcuts.
How do I or how can I change the look of my task bar with having to buy a program. I kinda like the look of apples task bar, icons across the bottom. Any ideas. Thanks

Once it is all up and ready they dissapear! I can't even right click on desktop nothing happens! The only thing left on desktop is the gaget bar.The only way to get online to internet is by going through the "get more gagets online" part of the gaget bar.

We're all using XP and added Desktop Search, using the search box in the Taskbar for quick searches. I can't seem to find a way to add it to the taskbar in Vista. I need a way to put it in front of him as he won't use it via the Start Menu.

I have unlocked the taskbar, and I can resize the quick launch toolbar. The taskbar cannot move or resize. However, the taskbar CAN move and resize in the Safe Mode. I wonder if I changed some registry entry or policy that I don't aware.

On the computer it says Vista PC Workgroup Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2Duo My Internet connections have been glitchy lately. Our service is in a package deal (phone, cable, Internet) and usually is pretty good, but lately it was taking several tries to change websites. Someone said that it was due to the number of processes in my task bar. They said it should be around 24, but my has 100.

There was a sudden power outage that lasted about 1 second and my computer shut down and immediately powered itself up again. Ever since then the taskbar disappeared from my desktop. The resolution was changed too as a result of the outage but I fixed that easily. Pressing the Windows button on my keyboard does not do anything. When I minimize my windows, they disappear to the right of the screen to nowhere. I have tried to see if the taskbar moved over there but it did not.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had this problem recently , when i open any window ( Windows Explorer, Firefox, IE ... etc ) my taskbar disappears without a reason. On the other hand when i minimize all the applications the taskbar appears again this is so annoying because i cant switch between my applications easily and i must press Alt+Tab to switch between them, besides i love the presence of the taskbar so i can see the time, in breif the absence of the sidebar makes me pissed off. this is my normal view of the disktop ( When everything is minimized ) : but when i maximize any window the taskbar disappears and the view SUCKS and looks like that: i tried everything possible, note that the Auto-hide the taskbar option is not enabled.

It would only show two at a time and you could Click the arrow to scroll through. All of a sudden it stopped doing that and it adds them on the left and shows all the programs. Attached is a screenshot of my desktop. The windows transparency is great, but I'd like to get rid of some of the "smokey-ness" of the taskbar.
Yesterday my computer was working perfectly, however when i started my computer up today the screen was completely black and all i had was a mouse, luckily i was able to start task manager and then run programs. I assumed this was a one time vista glitch but just in case, i ran an anti-virus that came out negative. I expected things to be resolved if i restarted my computer, but when i restarted it the same thing, so i restarted one more time, and to my discontent, this time there was not even a mouse, so now i have to write this from vista safe mode in order to access my computer. Attached is my dxdiag if you need to see it.

1. if its full of pdf files (ex.: e-books) i dont see the preview / covers of the e-books any more as before - just the foxit icon

What the title says right after i restarted my computer the taskbar and all my destop icons were gone i still got my sidebar running but thats it. I tried right clicking my desktop nothing showed up. I would like a answer asap

i can't click anything in my quick launch or any open programs. i can only click on the start menu orb and that's it.
I am running Vista Home Premium, and when I turned on my computer, my taskbar was a light gray. I took a picture:
If I open a full screen window (such as Firefox), my taskbar goes back to the normal black color, but if I don't have a full screen window it is that light gray color.
How can I change it back?
I've done some research on the internet and can't seem to find a decent resource for this question, so hopefully someone here can help. My taskbar was translucent by default, and remained that way for a week or 2, but now, it is just solid black. I was told to make sure I don't have any maximized windows, becuase that will cause loss of translucency, but the taskbar is solid even when I have no windows open at all. All of my other Aero translucent objects are displaying accurately, but for some reason, just the taskbar is being difficult. I'm not sure if there is an option to turn the translucency on/off, or if there is something else I'm doing that is forcing it to be solid, but does anyone here have any ideas?
