I have had a succesful connection for over a year. Suddenly I can't send. I get the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.
Subject 'Read: Help Yourself Wholefoods 5x2 proof for Apr.22', Account: 'mail.bigpond.com', Server: 'mail.bigpond.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
There does not appear to be any problem with my server. I can go online and send from my providers site. There is no long period of inactivity and no apparent network problems. I have not been able to send from home for 3 days now.

This problem started 3 days ago. I can recieve all emails, but can't send emails with attachments -pdf or pictures of any size, I can send plain/text emails. I have turned off firewall and stopped AV (avast). Have tried signing in authentication to outgoing mail server, have also tried changing from port 25 to 26. This is the error message with windows mail... Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

I don't know why I am having this problem. It started today for some reason and I've never experienced it before. No changes have been made to any of my email accounts or the discussion groups account. No changes have been made to my AV program. I use the standard, native Windows firewall. I'm still using Vista x86 and again, no changes have been made. I am currently posting this via the web interface. Everything was working fine until I posted a reply and then the newsgroup server would not connect again. Below is a screenshot of the error message window.

I have tried everything that I could find on the net in the last week, and this is my last step before I call Microsoft. I cannot access media center on my 360.
I tried to hook up my 360 as an extender. It connected to my vista pc with no problem but when I tried to play an internet video, my x-box would lock up. Note: that my own pictures and videos played fine and some of the internet videos, like "news", played fine also.
Before I got carried away with diagnosis I thought I would check for updates on my pc. First, I found that my old Antivirus software was now available for 64bit OS so I dumped McAfee (hated Mcafee) and reloaded PC tools Spyware Dr. w/ AV & decided to purchase Reg Mechanic also at the same time. I ran the AV and Registery Mechanic and fixed all errors and then retried to run the videos on the MCE x-box. Now I get either "Connection Terminated" or "Connection Failed" every time I try to set it up.....

Updated recently to new computer with Vista and also upgraded a bellsouth.net mail account - bellsouth.net now sends you to some kind of att yahoo account. I can receive my bellsouth email through windows mail but when I tried to send I get this error....

I've tried changing the port numbers as suggested on other threads andsome of the other suggestions but still getting the error. Not real tech savy so I must be missing something somewhere.

windows mail has trouble sending and recieving e-mail, it will download 4 or 5 messages and then lock up on one for hours till we have to cnacel and re-recieve the mail then we get duplicates of everything and then it will lock up on a different message. most messages have to be sent twice to go through mainly sending quickbooks stuff, invoices etc.. I have read a few posts so far about this we have norton antivirus. Norton says windows mail problem or isp problem. isp says norton problem email scanning is off.

I have been using Windows Mail with Vista Home Premium 32 bit and Norton 360 for about two years now. All has worked very well, but lately every so often (not all the time) when I click send on an email it disappears and does not get sent, and a message comes up and says windows mail had a problem and to check windows for new updates. The computer has all new updates. So I have to create my email all over and click send again and then it goes. This is frustrating when it is a long email to someone and it is just gone. Where does it go? I can't find it anywhere. It's just gone.
Has this happened to anyone? I have turned off the antispam feature on Norton to see if this helps, I'll keep you updated as it may be days before it does it again. Like I said it only does it every once in awhile, specially when it is real important.

What could be stopping it? I have eastlink security and i am thinking of going to avg. Do you have a link for free avg? I know this problem is not eastlink. I don't have ad-aware or any other virus program. I have Internet 8.

Reasons for not being able to send mail outbound using Windows Mail: Some say "Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton antivirus programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, NOT just disabled."
Others say "it sounds like interference from a spyware/spamware program" - what nonsense! It seems for Microsoft it was the best of times, it was the worst of times when they launched Windows Vista.....

I can receive mail using Windows Mail, but not send - I get the following
error:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: hello from Oz',
Account: 'Ruth Egerton', Server: 'smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10013, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
The account details are exactly as on my previous (Windows XP) laptop, so
I'm confident that is not the problem.
Windows Mail options tell me that Windows Mail is NOT the default mail
handler, but clicking the "Make Default" button has no apparent effect.
Running "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" from Control Panel, I am
told that the default e-mail program is the current e-mail program, and am
not given any way of setting it to Windows Mail (or even told what program
Windows thinks IS the default).
I have MS Office 97 installed, but did not install Outlook. I saw somewhere
that Office thinks Outlook is the default mail program, whether it's there or
not.
