Tried to install the update SP1 for Vista Business and got hung with Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete - Do not restart .....I did re-start and ran it in Safe mode. Stage 3 of 3 completed 100% and re-started the computer. When starting up the system got hung again with Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete - Do not restart ? I have more than what is required for disk space and memory. Is the answer to run it as a "Standalone install"?
View 4 RepliesI am new to this forum and to Vista Ult64. Today I had a nightmare experience. I was running a standard PowerPoint 2007 presentation from my new HP laptop with Vista Ult64 connected to a standard projector and the laptop went very strange switching in and out of the presentation while the CPU was showing an extraordinary amount of activity (especially when I was playing short low res AVIs). It even crushed Powerpoint at some stage. At home when I am not connected to a projector all is well with no drama at all.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSure enough, after waiting impatiently for months, I tried to install SP1 today and it was a disaster.
1) It gets to 'configuring updates stage 3 of 3' and FREEZES at 0%.
2)This forces reboot, same freeze.
3) So I reboot in safe mode, and it resumes installation of stage 3
and gets to 98% - whoo - hoo!
4) And then, after two hours of this, it says 'Service Pack could not
install; reverting changes'
5) Back to square 1, an entire evening wasted.
Damn you, Microsoft. I'm running a simple laptop, nothing special. I disabled the firewall, the antivirus, antispyware, and network before trying to install SP1. Nothing. NADA. How long do you idiots have to work on this thing to get it to succeed on any simple laptop? Years? Decades? Other people are reporting similar problems. Are you gonna respond? Or are you gonna just *&%$ up my machine permanently when you FORCE this stinking, bug-ridden service pack onto it in a few weeks time? And then who do I sue?
I attempted to install SP2 after it became available on Windows Update, but unfortunately without success. Stage 1 installed fine, but Stage 2 and Stage 3 kept repeating with every reboot. Fortunately I was able to log into the desktop, run System Restore and recover. My system is clean and well maintained. I unloaded all third party apps and disabled AV before installing SP2 - no idea what the problem is, but fortunately there's nothing in SP2 that I need for the moment.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWe have a problem for which there seem to be countless posts from other frustrated Vista users - a Windows Update gets applied and the Vista machine goes into an endless loop of rebooting after saying 'Stage 3 of 3'. We took the computer to our local computer shop recently (in July 2009) and they reinstalled Vista for several hundred bucks (because we didn't have the skills to do a repair). But when we got it home - voila! it does it again!
Has Microsoft not fixed this problem? Is there not a permanent fix to it? It makes me want to buy a mac and throw Vista in the garbage. Everyone I know (everyone!) who went to Vista wishes they had stayed on XP until the 'fixed Vista' is released, which I understand is in Oct 09). Vista and Windows ME will go down in history as the worst operating systems that any company ever created. Now that I've finished whining, does anyone have any answers?
I have a Dell laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. Everything was going fine today until I clicked for updates to be installed and then to re-start after the updates, as normal. However, now when I start the computer the Windows screen says 'Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3. 0% complete' then it shuts down and automatically restarts with the same message. This has been going on for hours and I cannot get into Windows or do anything else. Is this a virus?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
View 9 Replies View Relatedlet me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I start installing it, it goes through the "Copying Files" stage instantly, and then hangs up at 0% on "Expanding Files". Then, anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes later, my screen goes black like it's not receiving a monitor signal anymore, and nothing else happens.
I Googled the problem and found a ton of threads here and elsewhere with the same issue, with a slight variation, but none of them had issues posted, and they were all relatively old.
In November I upgraded my system with Vista Ultimate. When it was returned to me I followed each prompt and did everything during installation it asked of me. Now 5 months later is states that I need to validate. I guess whatever was running on my system was temporary. Does anyone know that if I purchase a new product key this will solve my issue or do I have to purchase a full version? If I do have to purchase a full version can it be installed over my already installed and running vista on my system?

When I try to install it I get a message saying that SP1 is already installed. How can I install the later version of the service pack? Do i need to roll back to the driver Nvidia 180.84, bare in mind i have had hardly any probs with the game since installing the latest drivers form Nvidia(part form some lag and chopines - but will be overclocking my quad form 2.5 to 3.0.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just received my HP Pavillion with Vista Home Premium and I was checking the system to see if everything was installed as I requested. I'm confused about the RAM. In System Properties, the Memory (RAM)3071 MB, but I ordered 4 GB. Why is only 3 GB listed in the stats? When I questioned tech support, they said that the proper way to check total amount of RAM would be when you start up the computer and tap F(10) for "set-up". When I did that, it showed 4 GB. Tech support said that when you look up the RAM on the OS, you dont get the total amount installed b/c some is being used. Is this correct? I've had horrible experiences with HP tech support so I'm a little sceptical.

I have 2 GB DDR 667 and one mal-partitioned SATA drive. The Vista portion has 167 GB.
Today, it took aver three hours to copy merely 329 MB of data onto the other partition using my HP 940i DVD writer. the program was not even half done, BTW I got several gray-out screens in the process. I could not do any other work because the darn machine hung.

I need to specify which language vista is installed inn or it won't work, i figured it would be norwegian (as i am from norway), but allmost all the menus are in english as well as everything in the start menu ("Computer" instead of "Datamaskin" etc...).
I was wondering if there is an easy way to figure out which language the OS is installed in.
Im not sure if I should put this under update probelms or what, but Im highly confused. I downloaded the Malicious Software Removal Tool, thru Windows Update. (Not a pop up online) After it was done with the update, it restarted my computer, and when it was done, I discovered that it had UN INTSALLED the speakers. The new software hadnt even run yet, so I doubt it had anything to do with that. When I click on the volume icon on my task bar, it says that there is "No Audio Output Device Installed"

I got a drivers cd from my sellsman. When i load i got a lot of drivers to choose. I select "VIDEO" - producer "NVIDA". I download it, and run. It pops-up "Proceed" so yes. I plan on running vmware with x86 xp pro platform to confirm that it cannot be installed on 64-bit. Although, every recent game seems to run fine under vista ultimate x64.. and considering fallout3 is very new, you think it would work aok =/

I don't have an internet connection and have been going to friend to download things I need. Then I transfer them on a memory stick and install them. I downloaded the three updates, but then found out that there is a problem on some computers with KB937287, which causes the computer to endlessly reboot. Then it was withdrawn from the MS site. So now I am not sure whether to install any of these or not. Then I posted this question on various forums. One said that I don't need the three critical updates if I am installing the standalone version on SP1 because they are included in that version. Another one said I can't update Vista at all if I don't have my own internet connection. I am not sure what to do

I installed Vista 64bit SP1 on this ammount of RAM, installation was extremly slow, but succesfull. Booting of system and whole work is also very slow. I found solution, that I should remove 2 GB, apply KB929777 fix and then return the ram back to 4 gigs. Its not working - when installing the patch, I receive error "This update does not apply to your system". This update is not already installed. I tried install in SAVE mode - not working. I tried to switch the RAM sticks - not helping. System is supporting 4 gigs. Is there anything else what I can try? I am thinking about to flash new (or old) BIOS, but is there anything else?

After I put the CD in my computer shows me that the software of my mp3 player cannot be installed. I tried my host's computer which is windows XP and it worked fine.
