Reply Button Taking 60 Seconds
May 15, 2010When I want to reply to an email and it is the first email of the day that I reply to , I hit the reply button and it taking over 60 seconds for the cursor to appear in the memo area.

Ram: Instead Of Beeping Once After About 5 Seconds After I Hit The Power Button On
Dec 19, 2008I just bought 2x "1GB PC2 4200 4300 DDR2 533MHZ 240 PIN 1 BG CL 4.0" ram sticks for my dell inspiron 530 and they wont ork. I installed them right and the slots all lined up right so i know they fit. but when i go to start it up, instead of beeping once after about 5 seconds after i hit the power button on, it takes about 2 seconds, the it goes beep beep and nothing comes up on the screen. I am very good with the software part of computers but the hardware i am litterally dumb as $h!t with.

Mar 23, 2008I have a totally top of the range laptop, I am not running any of the things like Norton that are known to cause performance problems (I use AVG anti-virus). I have heaps of RAM and disk-space, a fast Intel Core2 Duo chip, yet my computer is slower than my previous seven year old one (that was running XP). It takes about 3 seconds to display things like the Windows Explorer window or about 6 or 7 seconds to bring up Firefox or IE. and about 10 or 11 seconds the first time I open Outlook. That is not taking into account the
time it takes to download the web page or retieve my mail. I am using the default settings in Vista, are there features in Vista (I know it monitors everything) that could be slowing me down this much?
Reply, Reply All Or Forward An Email (Not Responding)
May 4, 2008When I try to reply, reply all or forward an email either in preview or from an open email nothing happens. Message at the top (Not responding). It seems like the program freezes or there is a very long delay for the reply or forwarded email to appear. If and when it does appear, the email is blank with no text, it is still waiting for the info to load whether there is an attachment or not. When I try to x out, a new window opens giving me the option to restart the program, close or wait for windows mail to respond.

May 10, 2010I started noticing about just 2 days ago. whenever i am playing a movie or any audio file, its not clear because the cpu is being used completely 100% most of the time. I checked the task manager and found out that svchost.exe is taking up most of the memory and cpu! any solutions so that i can fix this, i dont think i can end process svchost since it runs some important applications on windows.

Dec 2, 2008So, I just tried using the Windows-native compression to zip a VIDEO_TS folder 4.35GB in size. The first attempt stalled on the last file with "10 Seconds" remaining, so I canceled it. After a system restart I tried again, this time receiving a "Low Disk Space" error. I found this odd since at my last check the system disk had over 8GB free and a zipped 4.35GB folder can't possibly exceed that. So I did a Disk Cleanup, which freed roughly 2.5GB of space, including temp files; this left 5.8GB free, still down from my initial free space. I tried once more, and received the same "Low Disk Space" error. Now the system disk shows 3.23GB free, yet there is nothing I can eliminate with Disk Cleanup.
So, after three failed ZIP attempts, my system disk is missing ~4.5GB of disk space. I have to assume this is due to Windows not cleaning up its temporary files after each failed attempt. Does anyone know where Windows keeps such temp files so I can purge them? Also, is there any way to change where Windows compiles ZIPs like you can with Special Folders?
System Restore - Taking Too Long?
Sep 13, 2008I was trying to do a system restore – I went through the normal steps, (may be that was a mistake to start with) clicked on “restore to an earlier date" and selected 24 Aug. 30 hours later the restore is still running –the green line is still going across the bottom of the screen. Not sure what to do now – If I pull the plug on the PC what will or might happen? I have a HP Pavillion Elite M9351 with Vista Ultimate 64

May 11, 2010This all started when I recently had some malwares/viruses roaming around my laptop one day. I had managed to get rid of it all but it left my Direct Console 2.0 useless (I have an ASUS G-50V, Vista Premium 64-bit). I've tried reinstalling it and it just wouldn't load, no error message or anything (it did show up on taskmanager but no window appeared).
So trying to find a solution on google I ended up installing .net Framework 4.0. However, after restarting i started getting a ton of error messages about files in the Program Files folder, and then I realized it had just completely disappeared (rather, all the files inside disappeared). First the error messages said the folder was "corrupt and unreadable."
I navigated to the folder and tried clicking it, which then another error message popped up saying "Access is denied." I tried almost every solution I found on google, changing ownership and such, but I still cannot open the folder. Moreover, I cannot repair or uninstall any program that is or has been in the Program Files which I'm assuming has to do with the permission issues. I noticed this when I ran the setup for Direct Console 2.0 and tried to repair it, only giving me an error saying "The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:Program Files (x86)ASUSOvClk.dll." But this also makes no sense to me as this is the x86 program files folder, which I can access.
I checked both of the folders and TrustedInstaller has ownership to both of them.
*Edit - I just checked the ASUS folder inside my Program Files (x86) where the only group assigned to it for security is "Everyone" and it had no access whatsoever.
I would like to know if there is any possible way to fix this and if the files inside the folder are still there as this is very frustrating to deal with. Most of my ASUS programs were in the Program Files, including the hotkey manager is really useful to me. Thanks a lot.

As for the what I did to deal with malwares and viruses I mentioned before, I did install Malwarebytes on another computer with updated definitions and loaded it on a flash drive here, removing whatever malwares it found. Even after this though (and this has been a consistent problem), mbam.exe would disappear after installing Malwarebytes regularly on my own laptop.
Thinking there was some virus or other malware laying around that it didn't pick up, I downloaded and installed AVG. I updated it and full scanned, which found more viruses and did fix the issue of mbam.exe disappearing after install. At this point I installed Malwarebytes again, updated, and scanned again, finding 1 or 2 trojans and I think at this point there shouldn't be any viruses/malwares causing issues, but of course I could be wrong.
ASUS Recovery DVD:taking A Long Time To Install
Aug 31, 2009So basically it takes 4 hours to install it completely. It used to take 45 minutes to install. I've install it maybe 10 times as I have been switching to Windows and Linux back and forth on the same computer. Is there a way to get another one or fix it? I don't know if anyone can help me with this but I thought I could try.

Jun 23, 2008My Vista Ultimate-SP1 PC continuously freezes for a few seconds, it freezes then I hear a "click" noise coming from my hard drives and it works again for a while...after a couple of minutes or even less it happens again.. (Laptop since upgraded to WINDOWS 7) In the laptop, which is a wireless connection to the internet, WINDOWS 7 UPGRADE ADVISOR, & Secunia PSI will properly connect to the internet, and scan the machine for out of date software. No problems. (IE8 is the default browser)
However, in my desktop, hard wired to my home network router, Secunia will not connect. Nor will the WINDOWS 7 Upgrade Advisor. I set the rules in IE8 to allow the connection, but all I get is the barber pole saying it could take up to 10 seconds to connect, but it never does. I also set the firewall to allow this connection, in both directions. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the program, to no avail. Same issue......
Wake Up After 30 Seconds
Mar 29, 2008I'm using a home premium on a lenovo 3000 k series 100 with a intel 2 Quad CPU. And recently, when I set it to sleep, or it goes in sleep it self, it will wake up like 30 seconds right after the sleep, even at the night! I'm so frustrated with it.

ADSL Link Up Then Down Every 30 Seconds
Jun 27, 2008Very frustrating week as my internet connection is not working properly, and worse not even consistent. Either my connection seems normal or the link up then down alternating for hours. I'm running Vista 32 Using either my speedtouch 536v6 or Belkin G wireless router to access. Problem occurs with either. Have used filtered dsl line or not. Problem occurs with either. Have shut my comp. off. Problem occurs with either. ISP have visited twice, check the line, shrugged their shoulders and closed the ticket. And worse of all not consistent, so it's hard to locate the problem. It connection will work fine for an hour (like right now) then just stop working. I have reset both modem, reset user setting, obtained new ip, etc, etc.

Jan 18, 2010 I got her a Compaq Presario V2000 (Windoz XP Professional). It has been serving her needs quite well. But now she calls and says it shuts down every 59 seconds so she hasn't time to run any of its programs like antivirus or IE to connect to web to run maybe LiveOne scan or others. She has asked me to mail her a CD that will be self-booting and contain a good antivirus (and I would say, something like Malwarebyte too) on it, that will run and clean up her computer so she can use it again.
(After that, i need to talk to her more about protective programs for the machine....) She is of the opinion that the infective agent may be "worm.win32.nightshade or something like that." Quoting her. This Could possible be a form of the netsky virus, I can't be sure. At any event, I tried to shop for a curative CD for her problemo. All the CD's I could find contained very old antivirus programs (with three years or older virus definitions ....and most do not even say they remove those viruses..they talk only about "scanning for viruses" whereas we need a scan and a REMOVAL, that is a real antivirus program that works.... with current uptodate viral defintions. And a good malware type additive. Can anyone recommend any such CD, or else any other means she may be able to restore functionality?
Can Not Reply To Emails
Jun 4, 2009I seem to have an intermittent problem where colleagues attempt to reply to my email but it won't send from their end (no error message). But it only occurs intermittently (at times using the reply tool does work) and has happened from 3 or 4 colleagues who work in different organisations.
