Recover Data From Erased CD-RW?
Jan 16, 2009
It looks like I accidentally erased a CD-RW that had some personal information backed-up onto it.
1. Is it possible to recover data from an erased CD-RW?
2. If so, is there some software that is recommended for the job?
It would take me quite a while to find some of the information elsewhere; so, I'm just trying to save some time here.

I fried my external hard drive by accidentally unplugging it from it's port. Searching on the internet they want $400-$800 to recover the data. Is there any other way to recover it or maybe a cheaper way?

I have a Vista Ultimate operating system. I have two partitions: C and D. In C I have my windows and in D i had my documents. Last times the computer booted from the hard disk I had to repair my Vista to let me enter in the windows. Because of that I formatted my C partition, by deleting it and creating it again. And when I logged in my fresh Windows surprize. All the info in the old C partition was now in my D, and the old D is missing. Those were my documents! Is it possible for me to recover the data in the old D drive? I really need those. Can you recommend me a software program that can recover that data? I don't mind the price of the licence, as far as it works with great results.

I cleaned my recycle bin yesterday and after that realized that it had some of my very important data. I want to know if there is any inbuilt technique to recovery those files OR I shall go to some third party windows data recovery software.

People assemble computers & load pirated OS, then they complement it with a boatload of pirared application 'warez". It may not happen in highly-visible government or large corporate offices, e.g. oil company, but it's going on in countless small businesses and homes. While we have little power to apply economic leverage on Iran or North Korea, at least with Russia & CHina especially we shouldn't be so timid. Obama is TIMID. We need a combination of Reagan & Clinton, or whatever... I am really confused now.
Everything is fouled up/ NYTimes today cost me $5, it was 3.50 not too long ago, I switched to cheaper bread and forget about juice. I now drink water and feast upon tuna fish. I used to drive Maxima, now I can't fix Sentra door after idiot taxi driver pressed against it (multiple dents) beacause cost suddenly juped into $400 range. I wonder if our children will be eating squirrel soup as they did back in 1930's Great Depression...........

im having a problem with my fave game. Its an old one, Close Combat 5 from 2000. I can get the game to work in single player, no problem, but VISTA has for some reasons erased all the buttons in the multiplayer section so I can host or join via UDP, TCP.Why does Vista remove these buttons? Is there a security option to change so they are brought back? I dont use the firewall, but I see it has some options anyway, and the game has access like other games i do (that do work)Is there a way to allow connection via IP in vista, a way to fix my problem?

Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.
This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. My Vista Home Premium (SP2) is corrupted to near unusability. Proof?
1. I click the Firewall control panel and I get an error "Error loading firewall.cpl. Firewall.cpl is not a valid win32 application" It sure is not valid: when I go to C:WindowsSystem32Firewall.cpl, it shows a file of ZERO bytes!
2. I try to click the Windows program installation/repair/removal control panel, and the window blinks in and out.
It's been 28 months since this Vista installation has been in use, and often rescued in ways that avoided a clean install entirely.
I think it is now time to do the clean install. For one thing, the 100 GB Seagate drive (the one with the bootable Vista partition) after about two years revealed 432 read errors with a region of the hard disk (discovered by 'ddrescue' while using Ubuntu Linux), probably because the HP Pavilion dv9500t like all HP notebooks is notorious for overheating, and this failure to cool damages CPUs and shorten hard disk life.
MY PROBLEM: I am now living on the other side of the world. I made recovery disks using HP's recovery manager, and I think the recovery partition is deleted (not sure), but they were left with relatives on the other side of the world (mistakenly). HP does not answer requests for how to get recovery disks.
QUESTION: I have recovered the product key for the Vista installation using product key recovery software (the Microsoft label on the bottom of the computer is smudged beyond readability, not so for HP's label). Is there a way to download Vista installation somehow and use my product key to autheneticate the installation?

I currently have an Asus M50SA laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Recently my hard drive was failing and had to get it repaired. So I used the Windows Back up utility and backed up the entire hard drive to an external 3.5 inch usb hard drive. I then sent my laptop off to get repaired and they took out the hard drive and put a new one in and re-installed Vista for me. However, when I went to run the recovery program from the install disk, it kept coming up with the error that it could not find any backups. Using the command prompt though, I could connect to my USB drive and see the image. What do I need to do to get the recovery software to see the VHD file on the USB drive?

Setup: My old XP machine crashed and burned (possible lightning strike). However, the Hard Drive survived. I used my IDE to USB 2.0 adapter and hooked up the HDD to my new Vista machine. Problem: While I can access, view, and copy all other files, I cannot access the My Documents folder because I don't have permissions. Well, let me clarify that - I can see the files, but I get the permissions error when I attempt to open or copy the files, individually, in groups, or by parent folder.Duh. Is there anyway I can access the Owner files (My Documents and all sub-folders) from my Vista machine?

My computer got the error, I don't know why but maybe it's because I ran a registry cleaner or the computer crash time ago. Now when I start the computer there are some dialog says that there are some problems on the reg and asks to restore the default value, and it keeps showing that dialog everytime I start the computer. I checked the event viewer, only seen the warning something like this:" Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards. DETAIL 1 user registry handles leaked from RegistryUserS-1-5-21-1216382924-1572877739-2728514917-1013_Classes: Process 988 (DeviceHarddiskVolume1WindowsSystem32svchost.exe) has opened key REGISTRYUSERS-1-5-21-1216382924-1572877739-2728514917-1013_CLASSES " It doesn't affect to the performance of the computer but gives some troubles.

[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did. Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine)
I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?

My Vista recently decided to no longer recognize me as a user and I had to start over and bring it all back up, but there are huge holes in what I used to have. I'm basically fighting one thing at a time and hopefully, will get it back the way it used to be, I dunnoh. My Windows Mail I had to start over from scratch and set up. I had loads of very important e-mails in my previous Windows Mail. Is there any way to recover these e-mails?

I don't know what the Folder or File names are for my Local Folders in Vista Mail.
My old HD began making noises so I bought a new 750KB FireAgent last week,
(ST307504FPA1E3-RK), and Backed it up immediately, before Dell replaced it.
I had my HD set with 4 partitions and Backed them up individually: C-OS & important
programs, D-Vista's Recovery, E-non-critical programs , F-Data.
There were other problems in the C: OS drive so I could not just restore it as I had to use the Dell reinstallation CD.
I have restored most folders and files, BUT my Vista Mail "Local Folders" with all the subfolders and messages did not restore. If I look in I:/backup/CarlP,
I can see C, D, E, F. But, I don't know what I'm looking for, don't know what they would be called, where they are, and how to get them back. It's imperative that I DO restore the information stored in the messages.

I need to recover deleted IE history and have scoured all different sources for recovery and im starting to doubt whether or not it is possible.
What I know wont work:
System Restore- The history was deleted between restore points, and the restore points on either side of it being deleted dont have the relevant history
What I've tried:
Index.dat readers. This is what I'm confused about, everywhere I go say this file holds all IE history unless its been altered, but from everything I've actually tried it seems all the index files I can find just hold information I can pretty readily access already.
So I'm willing to try any suggestions, and also if anyone has a little more info on index.dat that would change what I've found out myself.

When Partition Magic 8 fixed my hard drive at start up, I found that one partition missing after Vista SP1 was bootstrapped. From within the Disk Management tool, the missing partition can be seen in the lower list(it is not listed in the upper list). Vista displayed an error when I right clicked the properties of the missing partition. I am very frustrated with Partition Magic for causing such disaster. Despite trying some softwares to recover the missing partition, the problem persists.

I'm a newbie in this forum and am desperately seeking help for a problem I'm having with my Pictures folder. Please excuse the lack of technical jargon! I know it's sounds really stupid and I'm sure it's a User Based Problem but I seem to have lost my original Pictures folder.I've been going into the Pictures folder that had my pictures in it under my Personal folder, but am now trying to delete another Pictures folder that has cropped up. Everytime I delete the new one (that has heaps of dropdown folders off it) the original one stops working. Now I've tried going into PropertiesLocation of the original folder and restoring the default location (because it's currently showing the location as C:UsersKaiPicturesPicturesPictures). When I try to restore it to the default that comes up when I hit that button (C:UsersKaiPictures) it comes up with the Move Folder warning, I hit Yes, then get a error that says "Can not redirect descendant into parent, the specified path is invalid".

I was clearing out space on my computer. I ran across a folder called "recently changed" I had never heard of a folder called that? I opened the folder and there was a log of everything I have done for at least 2 weeks. So I emptied the folder. What a mistake! I have lost pictures that I have downloaded within the last month. I really would like to get these pictures back.

I just build a new computer and installed Vista Home Premium (64 bit). I only have one hard drive (640 GB). I've added a few applications and music and pictures from an external HD. I checked my disk usage last night and it said I had used 195 GB! I got that by right clicking on the C drive and then properties. I noticed I had a Windows.old directory and manually deleted it then emptied my wastebasket. Still no improvement. I tried to do a disk defragment before I went to bed and let it run overnight. It was still running when I woke up so I cancelled it (I don't know how far it was as it doesn't show a progress bar like in XP). I rechecked and now it says I've used 208 GB (more than before).

Last year I made a partition to install XP (which took 20GB) on my pc which came with Vista Home Premium, as I'm running low in my main partition I search "how to delete partition" and followed this: Open Command Prompt. Type: diskpart At the DISKPART prompt, type:list disk Make note of the disk number of the disk from which you want to delete the partition. At the DISKPART prompt, type:select diskn Select the disk n from which you want to delete the partition. At the DISKPART prompt, type: list partition Make note of the number of the partition that you want to delete. At the DISKPART prompt, type: select partitionn Select the partition n that you want to delete. At the DISKPART prompt, type: delete partition Now the hard disk D: is gone but I still have the same space on C: (Ishouldn't have done it, I know now). I'd like to fix this! The only CD I have is Reinstallation DVD WIndows Vista Home Premium and I think I still have the one for XP. Is there any way to do this without formating the whole thing?
