Windows Vista email: my Mcaffe deleted all e-mails from the sent items folder (my fault). I know they are there becasue I ran a free utility which found them, however they want $80.00 for the full version to restore them.
View 4 Replieshow to set up the folder options to display the number of subfolders or items when its selected. It used to display in the bottom of the folder window but got disabled. Any folder clicked on would display in a small footer the number of items stored in in and size.

Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used
the Discussion Group, so I hope that I'm doing this correctly.
I'm a newbie in this forum and am desperately seeking help for a problem I'm having with my Pictures folder. Please excuse the lack of technical jargon! I know it's sounds really stupid and I'm sure it's a User Based Problem but I seem to have lost my original Pictures folder.I've been going into the Pictures folder that had my pictures in it under my Personal folder, but am now trying to delete another Pictures folder that has cropped up. Everytime I delete the new one (that has heaps of dropdown folders off it) the original one stops working. Now I've tried going into PropertiesLocation of the original folder and restoring the default location (because it's currently showing the location as C:UsersKaiPicturesPicturesPictures). When I try to restore it to the default that comes up when I hit that button (C:UsersKaiPictures) it comes up with the Move Folder warning, I hit Yes, then get a error that says "Can not redirect descendant into parent, the specified path is invalid".

I opened the folder and there was a log of everything I have done for at least 2 weeks. So I emptied the folder. What a mistake! I have lost pictures that I have downloaded within the last month. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am knowledgeable about XP and have used VISTA ultimate for months now but I have found a problem I cant figure out involving the "Document" folder and files under the "Owner" user. Up to to a few weeks ago I did have the document folder under the user "OWNER" encrypted using Vista encryption option and as expected it would show up as blue file names and could be open and saved under "owner". Now when ever I open up any of the edit programs ( Word, Notepad ) it doesn't show that there is a document folder. If I save a file it goes some were never to be found again. When I look for the document folder ( C: userowner ) All the folders are there Except the document folder. I check under the DOS prompt and it cant see it there. When I try and create a document folder it says that it already exist.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a Vista Premium computer, 64 bit with an AMD Phenom 9100 processor. I'm still not familiar with many of the basic functions in Vista, but I'm pretty good at figuring things out. However, I just installed 2 of my old hard drives from my old computer (which lost its motherboard), and so now I have 3 hard drives. When I was looking at my files in one of the old hard drives, let's call it J:, I found that items had been moved around. They were in a specific order and now things have been moved since opening the HD with Vista. I already tried dragging and dropping the items to put them back in order. Only 1/4 of them are out of order, but when I try to drag and drop, it appears I can drag, but not drop. The file does not move to the new place where I drop it in the same folder. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Does Vista not allow the flexibility of moving contents inside a folder? I really need these items to be put in the correct order. They are not in alphabetical. How do I do this very simple fuction? I will probably have figured it out by the time someone answers this, but then again I haven't yet, so I'm hoping for someone who can tell me how to do this very easy thing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have three Web based e-mail accounts. One of them is a good 'Google Mail' account. It is different to the other two accounts in the way that it does not have a 'Deleted Items Folder' as such. What the account contains is:
'Google Mail'
'All Mail'
'Drafts'
'Sent items'
'Spam'
'Starred'
'Trash'
Recently I signed up to a Website to receive their news literature in the form of an e-mail. I have since undersubscribed to the Website so that they may not send me any more of their newsletter e-mails. I have three of their e-mails all in the row in the 'All Mail' folder. I have tried deleting all three of those e-mails and they disappear at first. When I go to another folder and then come back to the 'All Mail' folder, the three e-mails are back again. I have tried to get rid of them many times but every time I go back to this folder, they are come back again..........
I have right clicked on folder and selected "empty deleted items folder", but am unable to empty it in one click.I have to delete each item one at a time to empty folder,and obviously this takes some time,as the inevitable question " are you sure" appears before I am allowed to do this.Does anyone have the solution?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my Vista computer 12 days ago and am trying to transfer stuff from my old XP. I created several "users" for different purposes and imported all my old messages from OE6 with no trouble. After a week I decided I didn't need all those users and now want to consolidate and move the old as well as the newest messages from to one users account to another.
I was doing fine as long as I drug the .eml files into an open Mail folder. But since the old Sent Items folder was very large I tried dragging it (after copying it to the Public area and changing the ownership) directly into the Windows Mail Local Folders area. When I opened up Windows Mail it did in fact show all of my old messages. But it wouldn't open any of them, and worse yet, it won't let me delete the phantom messages. If I drag any the .eml versions of those messages into the folder they show up as duplicates, and those are both readable and deletable. I need to know either how to find and delete the phantom files, or else how to recreate the Sent Items folder.
I know there are many threads on the above and have tried downloading the KB041090 fix. I do use 32bit Vista Home s/ware. However, it says that this programme fix is not applicable to my system....so I also tried the 64bit patch and this gave me the same response. Everything was running just fine until about a week ago....
I do use Norton Antivirus, but it expired about a week ago and I have reinstalled it today - neither action seems to have made a difference to the fix issue. I currently have about 200 e-mails that I could do with getting rid of...
1. I lost almost all of my contacts for no reason-I need to retrieve them!
2. I cannot delete all the items from my deleted folder. I've tried downloading off support.microsoft.com and when I do it I get a message "the update does not aply to your system".
Can you restore a message once it has been deleted from deleted items folder?

Looking through them, I was amazed to find that the Deleted Items folder still contains a copy of every single file that I had ever deleted. I had thought that once the preview screen showed "There are no items in this view" all the files would have been removed from the computer especially since the option to "Show All Messages" is selected. Is this a feature of Windows Mail or is there some setting somewhere that I need to tweak to avoid this? If I emptied the folder manually would this cause any problems?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay, here it goes. I first started using Windows Mail when I bought a new computer with Windows Vista back in January '09. I have four email accounts which I transferred over from an Outlook Express backup that I did before getting rid of my old computer. Windows Mail automatically set up a set of folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail) for each account, each with a different color scheme, similar to Windows Live Mail. My hard drive crashed in June and I'm just now setting things up again with the new hard drive installed. I tried restoring my email accounts from a backup I had but now Windows Mail won't automatically create folders for each account. Instead, I had to set up separate Inbox folders with message rules for each account. However, all the accounts are still sharing the Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail folders. Is there a way to set up a set of these folders for each account using message rules? And also, why did Windows Mail do that automatically for me the first time using it - could it be that the information came from an Outlook Express backup originally?

1. I click the Firewall control panel and I get an error "Error loading firewall.cpl. Firewall.cpl is not a valid win32 application" It sure is not valid: when I go to C:WindowsSystem32Firewall.cpl, it shows a file of ZERO bytes!
2. I try to click the Windows program installation/repair/removal control panel, and the window blinks in and out.
It's been 28 months since this Vista installation has been in use, and often rescued in ways that avoided a clean install entirely.
I think it is now time to do the clean install. For one thing, the 100 GB Seagate drive (the one with the bootable Vista partition) after about two years revealed 432 read errors with a region of the hard disk (discovered by 'ddrescue' while using Ubuntu Linux), probably because the HP Pavilion dv9500t like all HP notebooks is notorious for overheating, and this failure to cool damages CPUs and shorten hard disk life.
MY PROBLEM: I am now living on the other side of the world. I made recovery disks using HP's recovery manager, and I think the recovery partition is deleted (not sure), but they were left with relatives on the other side of the world (mistakenly). HP does not answer requests for how to get recovery disks.
QUESTION: I have recovered the product key for the Vista installation using product key recovery software (the Microsoft label on the bottom of the computer is smudged beyond readability, not so for HP's label). Is there a way to download Vista installation somehow and use my product key to autheneticate the installation?
On my computer there are two partitioned drive C: and D: D is recovery disk. Some of files have gone into it which I want to recover. I copied all contents in C but still it does not open. Can any body advice? I do not have administrator password.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have an Asus M50SA laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Recently my hard drive was failing and had to get it repaired. So I used the Windows Back up utility and backed up the entire hard drive to an external 3.5 inch usb hard drive. I then sent my laptop off to get repaired and they took out the hard drive and put a new one in and re-installed Vista for me. However, when I went to run the recovery program from the install disk, it kept coming up with the error that it could not find any backups. Using the command prompt though, I could connect to my USB drive and see the image. What do I need to do to get the recovery software to see the VHD file on the USB drive?

I used my IDE to USB 2.0 adapter and hooked up the HDD to my new Vista machine. Problem: While I can access, view, and copy all other files, I cannot access the My Documents folder because I don't have permissions.
