Is there a way to put a link to your desktop in the windows explorer favorites panel. Simple drag and drop doesn't seem to work, at least for me. I want to be able to access my desktop from that panel.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn folder options it has selected "Open each folder in the same window" but it never does. When I right-click and choose explore it opens in the same window as expected and it is the default action however if I double click a folder it always opens it in a new window.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to open any Windows Explorer program like My Computer, Control Panel, Recycle Bin, etc. the window immediately freezes (though nothing else on the PC freezes) and goes into a non-responsive state. If I just do other stuff for about 3-5 minutes the window will eventually open correctly, but this is obviously a problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Vista the window title and icon has been removed in all instances of Windows Explorer. The result is a blank space in the window that just does not look good where the window title normally is placed.
Using a cool free utility called AeroBar you can restore the window titlebar title and icon. To use the utility visit Outils (http://www.psscript.net/utils.htm) and download AeroBar.exe (http://www.psscript.net/AeroBar.exe).
Install is a snap. Just copy the utility to the Start Up folder of your start menu. If you want to also show the folder icons, just rename AeroBar.exe to AeroBarIco.exe ...
Can anyone explain this: 3219. The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got this problem after I installed Vista SP1. Inside Windows Explorer, when I double click a folder in the right pane, that folder is opened up as a new second window. No matter what I change in the settings window I cant get rid of this. If I instead right-click the folder and select "Browse", the folder contents is shown in the same window, but (as I said) double click the folder icon, a new window opens up. Seems to me that "double-clicking" a folder in the right pane triggers the "Open" action instead of "Browse" action.

I have a totally top of the range laptop, I am not running any of the things like Norton that are known to cause performance problems (I use AVG anti-virus). I have heaps of RAM and disk-space, a fast Intel Core2 Duo chip, yet my computer is slower than my previous seven year old one (that was running XP). It takes about 3 seconds to display things like the Windows Explorer window or about 6 or 7 seconds to bring up Firefox or IE. and about 10 or 11 seconds the first time I open Outlook. That is not taking into account the
time it takes to download the web page or retieve my mail. I am using the default settings in Vista, are there features in Vista (I know it monitors everything) that could be slowing me down this much?
I keep having desktop crashes where the desktop disappears because windows explorer or word crashes leaving me with the only option to reboot how do I solve this

View 8 Replies View RelatedHad some Corsair memory ( 2x1024 dual channel ) that failed so brought some Geil ( 2x1024 dual channel ). When I recieved the replacment Corsair I put it back in and no problems. Now was wondering if I would see any benifit by putting all 4 sticks in the computer? I would assume that the Corsair Ram setting would default back to the slower Geil Ram settings (the PC ran quite good why I had the Geil memory in). Basically I dont want to stuff the computer up but I have the Geil Ram laying around doing nothing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBought a Toshiba Satellite A100 from ebay with a cracked screen. I changed the screen yesterday, and the laptop worked well with no problems. Then today I decided to do a fresh installation of Vista because of all the previous owner had the hard drive in a bit of a mess. I installed using my normal Vista Anytime Upgrade disk and as soon as it finished installing I started getting all these messages like "Windows Modules installer has stopped working", "Desktop Window Manager has stopped working" and "TFncKy has stopped working". Things I've tried include reinstalling Vista from another disk. Using a different hard drive, changed the ram, installed all the proper drivers, installed vista updates (won't let me install SP1), staring at it menacingly & banging my head off the desk.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am connecting an external hard drive (Acomdata 250G drive - pretty standard) via USB to my HP laptop running Vista. I am able to see the device listed under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. Drilling into Properties, I see that the device is running properly and, having re-loaded the device drivers, I have the most recent drivers. The issue: I am unable to see the device listed in Window Explorer, and thus I can't drill into the folders to get at the content.
I open up window update it opens up with a blank explorer window. it stays open till i force it to close with windows task manager. it forces it to close while restarting my entire explorer at the same time, and it closes out some programs sometimes when it does it too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I open windows explorer menu it opens at a smaller window size then I'd like it to, so I resize it and close it but the next time that I open it from right clicking on the start menu and choosing explore, it opens at the same position and small size and isn't holding the window resizing that I did... What I've tried so far to make the window size "stick":
1. Use the Windows Explorer "ALT" key to bring up the File menu at the top of the explorer and choose "close" after resizing my Explorer window.
2. Made sure that the "Remember each folder's view settings" is checked. I've also unchecked it, chose apply, then recheck marked it and chose apply just in case it needed refreshing.
3. Used the "X" button at the top right of the window to close it after resizing it to the size that I want. And finally
4. Chose the upper left corner menu (the one with Restore, Minimize, Move, Close in it) and chosen Close...............
I have a program in my start menu that when I select it it doesn't open, it mealy places it's icon in the notification area of the task bar. This has forced me to right click and select 'Open' form the icon's context menu. I tried changing the 'Run' box to maximized but it didn't work. The original folder the
program put in the start menu after installation worked ok. I have since removed it and added just the executable to the star menu which is what doesn't seem to want to cooperate.
Isn't there a way to scale the 'Remote Desktop' host desktop to the window size on the remote client? We would like the host desktop to automatically shrink-to-fit the window on our remote client computer, much like the option available in 'Remote Assistance'. So far, our only option is to view the host desktop at full-size in a smaller remote client window with scroll bars that allow us to scroll to different areas of the host desktop. Is there not an option that forces the host desktop to shrink-to-fit the clent 'Remote Desktop' window?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure I'll have to do a install repair, but would like confirmation. It started when friend tried downloading a video file he sent to himself. (so no virus potential) he told the system to open with everything on his system to get it to play. It was a mpeg2 file so it would never play. When he gave up and tried launching a program. Every shortcut on the desktop launches with iexplorer. Properties for the shortcut point to the executable file for the intended program, so I don't get it. if I go to the program files folder and click on the executables, it launches correctly. only the shortcuts have been changed.

I have some Data Cd's that were burned on my Windows XP Media Center 2005 SP3 using Nero Essentials 7, ie. some eBooks both in MS Word 2003 and pdf format, 'My Documents' folder and all files (MS Word 2003 mostly), Internet Explorer 7 'Favorites' list. My question is can these files be put into Vista via copying them on the desktop, and dragging and dropping them where I want them? Will Vista even be able to see these files on the disk? I don't even want to try until I get a solid answer as this whole thing is stable as the Rock of Gibralter and I don't want to mess it up.

I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials, have used SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as my malware removal tools. I've used system restore and still having the same problem. I don't have a recovery disk, just the disk that Dell issues with it's new computers.
