I have been using Windows Vista for a year now. For the first 6 months, Windows Mail worked just fine but now when I try to print messages, it locks up and none of the buttons work. The only way I can get it to respond again is by using the Task Manager to shut it down and then restart it. And even then it sometimes will not work.
View 4 RepliesWhen I print an email (or anything) when in Windows Mail, my system instantly switches to another open application. It's as if I pressed "alt+tab" at the same time as selecting "print." I don't know how to stop this switching and stay inside Windows Mail. This only happens when I print from Windows Mail. Printing in Firefox or Word 2007 causes no such problem.

No i can stop the script or continue, but nothing happens. I don't get a print dialog nor a print out.
My home network consists of a DSL Modem, Wireless Router, 5 computers (One Computer is a notebook with Vista Home Basic), and a HP840C printer, which is connected as a network printer. Everything works fine except the one notebook with Vista Home Basic. An Acer aspire with preinstalled OS. Microsoft says that Acer is the OEM and responsible for the Vista Home Basic OS. Acer suggests updating driver. HP says the driver is OK. All the computers see the network and can communicate and access the internet just fine. My only problem is printing with the Vista. That computer will print ok after I install printer and driver, but after I shut the computer off and restart, I can't print. The print jobs get stuck in the print queue and nothing happens. The print jobs remain in the queue until I cancel them. If I connect the printer directly to the notebook's USB port it works fine. The computers with win98se OS and with XP OS have no problem.

We installed the driver from Vista the issue she is having is she cannot go into the printing preferences to change the size (change the margins) it will not allow here. She prints true 12x12's and under Vista it will not allow her to change these setting under XP no problems. I was able to set a user defined 12x12 paper size. It is not listed as an option to print through the Windows Photo Gallery. And I can?t print it through my Memory Mixer software, it wants to change the dimensions and then it only prints a little square right in the middle of the page.

I discovered that I CAN access my Yahoo email using OE. My new laptop has windows mail that will not work. I'd love to make the current MS Mail work but I suspect it will just be easier to install OE if possible? unless you know some way to get past my "Mediacom" port blocks?

*My problem is when printing email the far left edge of the copy (type) does not print. The From: To: Cc: are missing the left half of the F, T and C letters all the way down the page as well. It's as if the page is not centered in the print area.*
*Under the print preferences I have tried "print to fit" and all the options to get that left edge to come out. This does not happen on Word docs however there is a left margin set on those.
I go to tools and options, and it says "This application is NOT the default mail handler" Then it says "Make default" I click on it, click apply, and then Okay to close the box, but when I reopen it, it says the same thing. I've tried closeing windows mail, and reopening, either way, it will NOT make Windows mail my defaut mail, even though there is no other mail handler on my computer.

BUT in my normal account but still an admin account, no other accounts on system. Windows mail will not start have downloaded the reg file and that has done its job. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a program called Topalt to delete a lot of duplicate messages and now Windows Mail won't work. All my folders have disappeared except the Inbox and some newsgroup folders but none of them are accessible anyway. The folders themselves are still all physically where they should be, however, and as far as I can tell they're ok.
So how can I repair Windows Mail? My Vista Home Premium came preinstalled on an HP laptop. I don't have an installation CD as such. I did a repair partition wipe and installed Acronis as a recovery tool. Unfortunately, it's been several weeks since I last did a file backup, so to use that for repair would not be at all convenient.
I got a pop up for a username and password to access my mail. What I had written down does not work. so....i Have to go to Yahoo mail which I left because of the set up and disgusting ads like rotten teeth and people's cellulite rearends popping up when trying to read mail.So instead today, thought I could sign up for Windows live mail, which took a lot of my time. However, I cannot get my main email account to be accepted in Windows live - and by the way is this going to cost me? I am really hoping that Windows live will not be placing these same type of ads in my mail or I won't use it either. I would really just like to get my Windows mail back because it was perfect.

1. A newsgroup show 8 messages unread, but when I click on 'Next unread message' Mail said 'there are no more messages, got to next newsgroup?'. It is the only newsgroup that shows this.
2. A blank screen, something I can't explain, appeared over the screen of Mail. I could not access the Start Button. I did an and picked 'Task Manager', but it never appeared.
3. I could do to get to another application or the desktop, but nothing else. I tried to shut down and but couldn't get to the button. Nothing would work.
This isn't the first time Windows Mail had done strainge things. At present it show no messages but when I first click this newsgroup it show thousands of messages.
I am trying to create a Windows Mail account. I have always used Hotmail and when I try to email someone directly (from craigslist, for example) it pops up that I have to download Windows Mail and then I go through all the info and then it says that a msn.com address won't work with Windows Mail?

I have to delete the program and reload each time to check for new mail. The check for new mail box is ticked by the way. And the Send/Receive button produces - the same result - all tasks failed.

So I uninstalled it but the shortcut remained on the desktop and now I cannot delete it. I already have the patch for removing undeletable emails stuck in windows mail, but that obviously doesn't work for anything outside the mail program.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just transferred from a Windows XP PC using Outlook Express 6 to Vista PC with Windows Mail. I successfully migrated one email account and it works fine. On a second account I get the windows security box asking for username and password and even when I enter them correctly I get the box again. When I cancel I get the following error message:

It's just that I can't see it.Because Vista has been causing me so many problems (blue crash screens, system restore doesn't work etc) I must restore to factory settings, wiping the c: disk and starting again. I have backed up all files on an external drive. The problem is that I can't see how to import all my mail accounts and mail history back into Windows Mail which will have been reloaded from new.

View 9 Replies View Relatedafter weeks of fighting, troubleshooting, debugging, deleting, reloading, uninstalling, installing etc etc etc. I have finally come to the conclusion, that being able to print, is simply no longer a feature with windows operating system. Unless someone can tell me a fix that no one has discovered yet. I refuse to believe that the fix to our printing problems, is throw out the PC and get a new one. If thats the case i'm sure that there will be many people like myself who make the leap to MAC!
