Posts Not Showing Up In Newsgroups

Apr 25, 2008

This is something that has happened recently. If I try to post all I see is the reply (eg "Re: .......) and not my original post. Don't know why Vista Mail has started doing this.

I have tried on two pcs (I only have vista pcs now) with two different user accounts but with no success the posts have never been downloaded or displayed or deleted, they just dont exist as far as mail is concerned I have downloaded thunderbird and the messages appear as they should. I dont like thunderbird, I find it difficult and unintuitive, but at least it works

If you see rantings from this retard, please ignore them. He's been posting ten or more infantile posts every day on here for months. Replies just fuel him to post more idiotic rubbish. Ignore the fool, he'll get bored and go away. The old a age applies here, DON'T FEED THE TROLL!!

WM Not Display Replies To Posts

Apr 21, 2008

I subscribe to two news servers in Windows Mail - one the MS News server and one a non-MS news server. The MS News server exhibits certain weird behaviour in that several groups constantly list a small number of messages not downloaded, no matter what I do, whether I mark all read, or use the catch-up function, or Get the next 300 headers. Also the "Show Replies to my posts" function goes awry - if I set the view to that, it works on the first group I set it on, but if I go down through the group list, without changing the View from that, WM does NOT display replies to my posts, I have to uncheck it and re-check it for each group.

Deleting Ghost Posts In Ng Account

Apr 5, 2008

Whenever I sync my newsgroups with Win Mail, I get a number next to the ng, i.e.. microsoft.public.pocketpc (6) even though I have used the "catch-up" function then delete but that still shows up. Is there a file in appdata that I can delete to get rid of it?

Mails And Posts Are Blank But Contents In Attachment

Nov 19, 2009

Using Windows Mail which was working fine this morning. Installed the recommended MS updates this afternoon, WM started running very slowly (taking 3-5 seconds to change message when clicked) now every e-mail and newsgroup message shows name and subject, but the content is completely blank. I can open them up, and the content is stored as an attachment, eg AT000223.html AT000223.txt, which I then have to save (if I click either attachment, I get "file not found" error), then I can open it up and read the mail. I have read and tried the fixes where I changed the "read messages in plain text" option, and the encoding options, still the same. I've done the maintenance on the folders, I've also emptied the temporary Internet files as a forum, still nothing.

Configure Windows Mail To Display All Newsgroup Posts?

Feb 13, 2009

I subscribed to several newsgroups and retrieved the posts locally. It seems Windows Mail onlly retrieves part of the newsgroup posts. I cannot seem to find where I may configure to make it display all the posts which I can see via Web page. For example, I cannot see posts earlier than August, 2008.

Posts From "Unknown" It Is Blank

Jun 20, 2008

When I am reading posts in this and some other discussion groups, there are frequent posts from someone called "Unknown". When I click on the post, it is blank, no message. Sometimes I see that others have replied to such posts and I can open the replies, which are not blank. Could some kind person explain to me what is happening? Have the original messages been pulled by some hidden moderator?

Checking Newsgroups

Oct 1, 2009

(Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP-2, IE-7, WM-6, classic mode, dial-up.)

BACKGROUND: Lately I've noticed that when I check my email Windows Mail seems to be stopped/stuck while checking a newsgroup for new messages. I've discovered that it may be in that mode (checking a particular newsgroup) for over an hour. I solve the problem at the time by clicking stop, and then it checks for messages and I find a number ofmessages sent over the previous hour or more.

I know of the setting to determine how often to check my server for email. Is there another setting somewhere that determines how often the newsgroups are checked? I'd be
happy to have the newsgroups checked only when I open a newsgroup, but I don't know how to do that.

Verizon Newsgroups

Jun 11, 2008

I had been getting a variety of different newsgroups via news.verizon.net for years. Recently on about 5/11/08, I suddenly could not connect to this source any more. In the meantime, various newsgroups from msnews.microsoft.com continued to work as always. I have been in chat sessions more than three times with Verizon on this matter and each time, all my settings seem to be fine and they cannot solve the problem. I have noted if I try to bring any other new newsgroup, they all fail in the process of trying to bring in their list of groups.

The error message is the same as when I try to connect to news.verizon.net. I have attached a file showing the error message. lastly, I don;t believe it is the particular computer, a Vista Home HP Laptop that I am using as other machines on my wired network no longer can connect to the Verizon newsgroups. It is not my router as I directly connected one machine to the DSL modem and it still could not connect.

Set Up Mail To Use With Newsgroups

Mar 23, 2008

I want to continue using Eudora as my default mail (the one I use for personal mail), and I would like to use Yahoo to forward messages from newsgroups. When I start to do that, Windows Mail starts the process to set up a mail account. The Internet e-mail address that is shown automatically is correct (my Yahoo mail). It asks for the mail server and SMTP server for outgoing mail, which I assume would be the information provided by suddenlink that I also use for Eudora. Then it asks for my e-mail username. The name that appears automatically is actually the name that appears before the @ sign in my Yahoo address. The next box requests the password my Internet service provider has given me. That sounds like the password for Sudden link, but I want to use Yahoo for this purpose.

End Of UseNet, Windows 7 Newsgroups ?

Dec 28, 2009

Does the MS decision to leave out Windows 7 newsgroups as well as a newsreader in the OS a harbinger of the future? That the UseNet is being phased out - or is dying - after almost a third of a century? Does MS know (and control) something we don't? So is this also a social change dictated by technology's progress? - That people will now forgo these discussions and instead concentrate on 'faster' means of conversation. I don't really know where to stand on this but I feel we are witnessing another - rather uncelebrated - change in online sociology. Should I look forward to future newsgroups carried on Twitter someday? Just some year-end musings (meaningless perhaps). Wishing everybody a Happy New Year.

Windows Mail With Newsgroups

Mar 6, 2009

In Windows Mail, if one hits TOOLS the drop down menu list shows "newsgroups" there among other options (I have Vista) and mine does NOT have it listed. Somehow I lost it. Either through an old crash, a system restore due to the crash or I somehow accidentally deleted it. (I have no idea how long ago this happened - none at all.) Now I cannot replace it on my own. I need help BADLY. I very much want it back there as there are half a dozen or so really good newsgroups I discovered recently and want to join and it would, of course, be GREAT to have that back on my drop down menu.

My questions are: How do I get it back? Where do I go to download Windows Mail again or to "repair" Windows Mail? I have way too much mail in there right now to lose. Many thousands of pieces of mail. (I'm very, very surprised they haven't asked me to "compact" yet like Outlook Express often did when I had XP - back in the good old days. If this cannot be done (not with my luck I'm sure) is there other rather easy and convenient options for me to subscribe to 6 or so of these "newsgroups"?

Obviously I am a virgin newbie to all this and do not understand the Techie Lexicon at all but am interested very much in joining these newsgroups to learn about new things as well as resolving my problems - troubleshooting. Also learning a few tips and tweaking for Windows, Vista, Foxfire and Internet Explorer is my primary interest. Very, very safe totally freeware (compatible) is a bonus if I should get lucky.

Windows 7: Devices And Newsgroups

May 13, 2009

Is anyone ever going to create newsgroups like Microsoft.Public.Windows.7.xxx? And, a comment: I installed the Windows 7 Release Candidate on an old SIS-741-based motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP processor. It works great. The drivers for the SIS-964 built-in Ethernet were never built for Vista, but amazingly, the XP drivers worked fine for this device. The driver file that Windows 7 is using is called SISNICXP.SYS. I also pointed Windows 7 to the folder with the "i386" drivers for the Promise SATA-300 TX4 add-in card (ulsata2.inf), and it happily installed the SYS files, and the attached SATA disks work fine.

Windows 7 found the AC '97 audio drivers on Windows Update. I meant to disable the audio on this computer since I'm not going to use it, but I forgot. (My computers that do audio, have much better audio add-in cards than a built-in AC '97 chip!)I'm encrypting two of the 500 GB SATA disks with BitLocker now. It is a very slow process, but I'll only have to do it once.I'm happily amazed that the "i386" drivers for the SATA controller, and the SIS-964 Ethernet drivers from Windows XP, worked in Windows 7.
